Mako is the closest family that Serge has from back home. He didnt see him for many years after moving to the mainland, but then one day, mako just reappeared, letting him know that he had moved nearby. Serge is happy to have Mako join him for some healing from the earth, and is proud of how Mako has grown up since he saw him as a teenager
Serge is Mako’s first cousin on his dad’s side and growing up, Mako spent almost all of his springs and summers in Hawaii with his extended family. He saw Serge as the older brother that he never had (Mako was an only child but he always kind of wanted siblings) and they were very close. However, when Serge had his accident, Mako was too involved with school and all to really check up on him. There was a few years where they didn’t have much contact, and a Mako began to feel really terrible about that. When he and his girlfriend decided to elope after high school, it was actually Serge’s place near the city that Mako was aiming at as their end goal. Things fell apart between Mako and his girlfriend, but he still went to try and find Serge anyway. They reconnected, but Mako realized that Serge wasn’t the same- and that he seemed to be in an entirely different reality. Mako feels sort of responsible for that and is now determined to show Serge that he is there for him one hundred percent. They bond over yoga and plants and things, and Mako is happy that Serge is happy- but a part of him wants him to see some doctors in case anything is really wrong.
Serge thinks that Kas has a wonderful aura and enjoys their small talks and little meetings. Serge sells his medication that he doesnt take to Kas (since Serge doesnt believe in taking his meds cuz it seperates his mind from the plants) and Kas takes it to the gang to resell for higher prices.
Kas thinks Serge is like-- another mystic. Which is so rare to find in this superficial world? He finds his musings both entertaining and a little inspiring, though even Kas sometimes finds himself questioning Serge's mental state. Regardless, he does look forward to their little meet-ups. He pays for dinner and Serge hands off the drugs he doesn't use and then Kas can sell them back to the gang-- and he also gets to listen to Serge muse about reality and the universe and the earth and trees. Win-win for everyone involved.
