Rowan started out life on the corner of a lord's estate. His father worked as a ranger and his mother worked in the estate's kitchen. When Rowan came of age he was put in charge of a small flock of goats. At the age of twelve a werewolf began showing up on the property and his father was ordered to track in down by the local lord. Unfortunately in the ensuing hunt, Rowan's father was killed by the beast. A priest was called in after but the werewolf remained elusive. Just before the priest was set to leave the werewolf reappeared and attacked Rowan's flock. Through sheer luck young Rowan was able to kill the beast but also discovered the monster terrorizing the property was the very lord his father served. The priest suggested that Rowan apprentice under him as Rowan's mother was set to remarry and the flock had been wiped out in the werewolf attack. Rowan reluctantly agreed. For many years he excelled under his mentor, though it was noted he never enjoyed killing monsters and demons. As the years passed Rowan became a fully fledged priest all the while growing more and more dissatisfied with ruthless methods the church employed against even the most harmless supernatural creature. When he had served enough time to settle down and take over a perish of his own he declined. Instead he began to deal with monsters and demons in his own (more merciful) way. Perhaps his outlaw behavior was what drove him to start dubious relationships with many of the monsters and demons he worked with. One relationship in particular grew into something more. Rowan fell in with a turned vampire woman, becoming her protector and surrogate father to her born vampire daughter. Years into the relationship he was found out and reported to the church. Rowan refused to turn in either vampire and was punished in the form of a divine brand across his chest. The unremovable brand effectively turned Rowan into a holy relic and would burn the average demon or monster with a mere touch. He was set back out to continue his monster exterminating for the church. Bitter and angry, Rowan took to drinking and just barely scraped by as a priest. At his lowest point an angel appeared to him and sent him to the rescue of a kidnapped nun. For the first time in years Rowan felt a surge of hope that maybe it had not all been for naught... Till he discovered the nun he was sent to save was not only a demon but a male demon. Isa, the demon set on becoming human, became his traveling partner and paramour.

Demons, monsters, and angels inhabit the earth alongside humanity. The church has reigned for centuries by maintaining a monopoly on demon hunters. Priests travel far and wide for the first few years before they're allowed to settle down and receive a cushy life with a parish of their own. However, there are some that never choose to put down their guns. These individuals must deal with the most hellish demons, navigate the most dangerous terrain, and endure the tight grip the church has over their lives.

★Rowan's horse is a bay stallion named Kestrel. He took the horse off a demon that had stolen it from a lord. Instead of returning it to the lord's estate he claimed the horse had been killed and kept it for himself. Kestrel is one of the few animals that shows no fear around the supernatural. ★Rowan had a soft spot for goats and still has a number of tricks to get their attention. ★Though totally useless in the day and age Rowan lives in, he'd be a good country singer ★His back isn't what it used to be
