his race lives to about 500 years, so even though he is around 30, he is very young by his people’s standards.

Backstory

The son of the second highest ranking family of his clan. He had a easy childhood. Although when he was 11, the head of the clan passed away, the new head, Zavien, who was chosen had an interest in Avene. Avene disliked the unwanted attention tried to avoid Zavien, but there was little Avene could do. After a few years Zavien only became more obsessive about Avene to the point that he openly threatened Avene to be with him or else his family would face the consequences. Avene had always been disturbed by Zavien, and at this point Avene decided to run away from his clan in order to avoid him. Avene didn't believe Zavien would kill his family since they had too much influence, but he knew he could still make their lives miserable, but he forced himself to feign ignorance as he fled and still doesn't know what happened with them. (this event caused Avene to avoid facing the negative consequences of his actions and if he ever starts feeling like things are getting dicey, he'll take his leave of a place and start travelling again, the repetition of this has made him very self-centered)

Avene was around 15 at the time he left his home. He didn't have any specific destination in mind when he left and just wanders the land

He met Xin, a man of the drachian race, several years ago. They happened to be traveling down the same road (heading in different directions). Some bandits were after Xin, since he likes to wear rather fancy clothes, and at the point when they decided to attack was when Xin and Avene's paths happened to cross. Avene was irritated by the unsightly group and dealt with them rather quickly with his magic. Xin and Avene started talking after words and Xin decided to travel with Avene since he figured most folk wouldn't mess with him if he was in the company of a true dragon.

To more current times, Avene thought it would be interesting to see how a village deep in the mountains would react if he threatened them for aa offering, granted he didn't actually plan to do anything. Using Xin to represent him, he was surprised when Xin returned in tow with a young human woman who seemed rather excited given that she believed she was to be sacrificed (the villagers interpreted his wanting an offering as a human sacrifice). The woman was Kayla, who had apparently arrived a few months ago to their world from Terra Origin (Earth). She was fascinated at the thought of getting to meet an actual dragon and thought it would be worth it even if it was the last thing she did with her life. After Avene told her he didn't intend for an actual person to be the offering, she demanded that they let her travel with them. And so, she joined their party in their aimless wandering across the land.

About 6 months after Kayla joined Him and Xin, Avene's typical arrogant attitude got him on the bad side of another true dragon. This wasn't a very unusual event for Avene, and he didn't think much of it as no one had ever tried to start a fight with him as they wouldn't come out of it unscathed. Avene didn't take into consideration that someone might target his newest, and still pretty weak, travel companion when she was alone. The other dragon attacked Kayla leaving severe gashes across her torso and left arm. Although Kayla's injuries healed, this was the first time Avene wasn't able to avoid the bad consequences of his actions, and witnessed his actions leading to direct harm to someone else.

The shock of the incident combined with the guilt when Kayla didn't blame him for the injury despite his actions being the clear cause of the attack, caused Avene to start taking more consideration of his surroundings. Granted it is a very slow change, he does start to mature and think before he speaks/acts.

Avene didn't really take much notice of Kayla before she was injured due to his actions, but he becomes more conscience of her and generally doesn't like for her to go off alone. Even in when they're at a town and would previously split up, Avene tends to stick to Kayla with the assumption that should he piss off someone else (beause its going to happen rather he means to or not) that she won't be targeted if he's near (he already feels guilty enough from when it happened the first time and doesn't want a repeat). (Kalya initially sees this as Avene trying to be a nuisance although she later figures out why he doing it)
