Always a shy and ordinary girl, Shion spent most of her life glued to the screen of a Playstation Portable. She fell in love particularly with otome games-- visual novels and rhythm games focused on the relations and courtships of attractive young men. Though initially content to separate her fantasies from reality, a year at Isshiki Memorial Academy has revealed to her that the paranormal does exist—and is just as handsome as it is in video games. After she awakened special abilities of her own, she became determined to make her dreams a reality.
Appearance
Shion is very short, standing under five feet. She has a scraggly, thin and rather shapeless build. Her skin has a strong reddish tone, and is somewhat splotchy. Her face is heart-shaped, with a button nose and huge, green eyes. Her hair is a silvery pink, cut short and slanted. It is naturally straight and parts in the middle, and Shion doesn't care enough to change that; she doesn't even try to tame the antenna of hair that defies gravity from her bangs.
Generally she wears her school uniform, often even on weekends, because bothering with clothes shopping is too much effort. She does, however, have a unique hoodie which she wears often; it's bright red with blocks of green running through it, and on the hood are two large, decorative buttons. The criss-cross of thread in them mimicks the appearance of X-eyes.
Personality
Shion tends to be rather closed off and shy to strangers. She much prefers the company of video games, and it can be difficult to get past the screen she always has up. She tends to have few words, and avoids talking about the games she plays for the most part. Most will probably find this rude, and leave her at that; however, engaging with her for any longer period of time reveals that she's rather polite and kind, if guarded.
Closer friends will find that she's eager to please. If she shares a common interest with someone, she will cling to them as a dear friend. She's rather easily impressed by other people's ability to succeed, and especially impressed by any occult prowess displayed by others. Though she finds difficulty in trusting authority, she can trust pretty much anyone else. She often looks for ways to impress others, mostly by making herself as helpful as possible, but she can't easily stick up for her friends in extremely dire situations—with low self-esteem, she lacks the conviction to help in very dangerous situations.
More than anything, she's a romantic. She plays visual novels and ravenously reads romantic manga, and has a dream of falling in love with a man who's dark, brooding, and a little dangerous, but secretly loving and protective. She projects this dream onto every handsome boy she meets, which is a lot of them, and is constantly looking for someone who will reciprocate her coy and slightly clingy advances.
Her self-esteem, as mentioned above, is rather low, especially considering she has supernatural powers herself: she can read minds, teleport, and slightly influence the emotions of others. She usually tries to avoid using these powers, after some unfortunate mishaps and boundary violations, but she can't always help it. Her greatest desire in life is to find a boy who thinks her powers are helpful, and likes her for who she is— even if she cannot.
Story
Shion was born in Tokyo to an extremely ordinary family, with both of her parents alive and an older brother who was introverted, but kind. She was always naturally shy, finding it difficult to relate to any of her peers and quickly bored by small talk. Her brother, who was significantly older, was the one person who managed to break through her shell, and they bonded over a shared passion: the Playstation 2. Shion often begged him to let her try his games, and he acquiesced; she was often not very good at them, but enjoyed the experience, and kept at it stubbornly. Though her parents were concerned with how much she played, her brother was happy to see her passionate about something, and in middle school, she got her very own PSP.
Also in middle school, Shion began to get interested in boys. To prepare herself for dating, Shion began playing high school sim and dating games. She found that she loved these kinds of games specifically—experiencing lots of different kinds of love stories was thrilling, and she would replay her games over and over again to see all the content. But soon, she exhausted the scope of these mundane dating sims, and turned to more... supernatural romance stories. And once she crossed that boundary, there was no turning back.
By the end of middle school, she had developed an intense fantasy about meeting a vampire, ghost, yokai, demon, magical secret society member, or whatever-else-have-you and falling madly in love while also trying to save the world. While her motives were questionable, she put them to a good end, applying and getting accepted to the prestigious Isshiki Memorial Academy (based entirely on the swirl of supernatural rumors that surrounded the building). Her first year at the academy was fairly ordinary, excepting the giant, horned boy with bright red skin who shared her homeroom. But towards the end of that first year the extraordinary happened, and she awoke latent psychic powers she had.
Though unsure of the power's origin, she immediately tried to put it to use in her quest to find boys. Unfortunately her control was poor, and she often ended up influencing emotions too much. She also didn't see much point in using her teleportation skills, as they were unrelated to romance.
Nowadays, Shion lives a pretty ordinary day-to-day life, though she's always on the lookout for new tall, dark and handsome strangers. Lately, she's styled herself as an assistant to junior detectives/ghost hunters, and has tried to endear herself to troubled yokai in need of romantic fixing.

Powers and Abilities
-
Telepathy
Shion can read people's minds, with a little concentration. She generally only gets surface thoughts, and resists delving deeper into people's minds when she can. In cases of those who are possessed, she can use this power to listen in on private conversations between the host and their guest, and this psychic sensitivity also allows her to get a general read on the locations and state of ghosts.
-
Pathokinesis
Shion can slightly alter the feelings of someone, suppressing or amplifying what they're currently feeling. This ability is dangerous to use, as poor control tends to lead to people displaying intense and obsessive feelings; for instance, increasing someone's attraction to another in order to facilitate a date can quickly escalate into clingy and stalkerish behavior. She'd be nervous to use the ability for this purpose, but it's been suggested to her that she could help others by using this ability to ease negative emotions like anger and sadness.
-
Teleportation
Shion can teleport instantly with her psychic powers. Despite being by far the ability she has the best control over, and possibly the most powerful, she downplays its usefulness, stating that she finds it boring or insignificant compared to her dominion over feelings. Her range is excellent, she doesn't need to see where she's going, and she can take others with her... be kinder to yourself, girl!
-
Genre Savvy
Shion has obsessively been consuming paranormal stories since her childhood, and as such, she can recognize a lot of life imitating art. When tracking and fighting ghosts, she can rattle off lists of weaknesses and ways to circumvent their power; when figuring out her dark and mysterious classmates, she can guess at their hidden traumas to learn more about them. Unfortunately for Shion, this isn't always surefire, but it helps out enough to be considered a benefit.
