Basic info Full name: Ester Gloria Landsverk Birthday: 30.11.1867 Age range: late 20s-early 30s Species: halcylian (olive green Light) Significant other: Amaralf spoiler: after 1900 - Vivril Family: Teresa and Timo Landsverk - parents; Gerda - sister; Marcel- nephew; Height: 168 cm Nationality: Norwegian Occupation: the leader and founder of Braivada village, painter, fairytale writer Status by the end of the main story: alive |
Short description Ester is the leader and creator of Braivada village, a mysterious place where people and halcylians live and work together. Very skilled and powerful halcylian woman respected by many, known for her unique charm and charisma. In contrast to a lot of Light-gifted people from the North, she seems to be proud of being one of them - but it also doesn't make her feel better than average people. For her, halcylians aren't better or worse than others, they're just equal. Despite she doesn't make her appearance in the story really often, she's one of the most significant characters there and everything that happens always somehow concerns her. She always knows what she wants and does everything to achieve it. Strives to prove that halcylians are normal people just like everyone and their Light gift is actually very useful in everyday life - not a "curse" they should be afraid of. A lot of halcylians appreciate that, but obviously, there still are some persons that don't think it's good at all. Very strong, independ and influential lady with hidden warmer, artistic side. Some people admire her like nobody else, some are even afraid of her. Doesn't mind being called a Witch. |
Personality Ester seems to be a great leader... when she is around. Strong, charismatic and proud, never stops realising her wishes and never gives up on anything, brave, ambitious, stubborn and willing to take a risk. Fiery and confident, sometimes chaotic, and though she seems to be quite graceful, even somehow clumsy, there's always mess around her. Always knows what she aims for and does everything to achieve it, has a great intuition. She is not very emotional person, might be even seen as quite harsh and cold by strangers. She invented a lot of new things with halcylians' Light energy and knows a lot about using the alheer, but still not everything. She wants to prove the world that halcylians are normal people just like everyone and their gift is actually very useful in everyday life, even if also can be quite problematic. She wants to gain as much knowledge about the Light as possible. Ester knows a lot of people, but rarely considers someone as her friend. It's not really easy to get closer to her due to her tough personality, but she really appreciates people, enjoys hearing their stories and loves to collect things she got from them. There is no person truly hated by her. No one wants to see her angry and mad, Vivril's bandits are afraid of her like's she's the worst nightmare ever. Indeed, she can be ultra creepy. But doesn't hurt nobody without a reason. For most people she's very distanced and never lets more or less random people to see her softer side. Sometimes she's seen as cunning witch by the bad robbers' team, some other people outside Braivada is also afraid of her, but also many admires her and are thankful for creating Braivada. Not all of halcylians support her ideas, but she's never afraid of sharing them and fighting for them. Ester rarely talks about her feelings, but likes to share facts about her journeys and meetings with many different people. She actually can't live without journeys, like after being homeless she still can't settle down. That's why she actually doesn't always have control over Braivada. Sometimes... it's not even her own will, though. Sometimes... she is forced to travel. Ester in the story goes on a lot of different journeys, but none of them was planned only because of her own wish. She has also more artistic and romantic side, in her free time likes to paint and is an author of some stories for children (always with very strange, terrible ending); she also has some artistic alter-egos like Reil Myran (which is the name of her grandfather who was an unfullfilled writer). She's more like daydreamer inside, has own philosophy and perceives the world in her own way, though people may think she must keep both feet on the ground as important leader. She has huge fantasy, pays attention to the smallest details and can get impressed by everything. Although she's very talented and learns quite quickly, she has problems with many "basic" things, like cleaning, cooking, swimming, sewing. She's not a lazy person, but really doesn't like doing these things and literally can't, she is like walking mess, also she is always too busy. She has a housemaid named Klara in the house where she lives with Amaralf. The house that, by the way, is very rarely visited by Ester herself. Despite being quite chaotic, she always seems to deal with everything right and knows how to survive even in dangerous situations. Before forming Braivada, a quaint village where ordinary people and a few people with gift of the Light live together, Ester was homeless for 6-7 years, because her sister threw her away from home. It was very hard time for her, but she managed to endure it. She always had a feeling that she should travel... to some certain place... to find certain destination. She was so used to being poor that she doesn't even mind being poor now, despite that her husband is very rich. She almost never uses his money for her own wants, she's very modest and usually cares about Braivada more than about herself. Both of her parents were medics and worked in a hospital, but they died when she was a child. She still has a sister, 6 years older Gerda, but their relations are just bad. Gerda would never open the door for her, there were so many conflicts between them when they were teenagers. Sometimes Ester still goes to her hometown to visit her parents' grave, but Gerda never invites her to her house. She also refuses to use her own Light element. Ester has average green Light - alheer, but is very confident about using it around the people, she's not afraid of being called a witch. She believes halcylians don't change a lot from others and tries to create united community, she wants to help these halcylians who feel too "different" in negative way. She also experiments with her own alheer element to prove that it's not a freaking magical spooky shit but really useful tool that can help in everyday life. With her help Amaralf's team got the alhilamps (embraced form of alheer that is designed for one destination) that could show them way to the places with biggest amounts of raw materials in the mine, also were useful in excavating it. That's why Amaralf's friends and all the Braivada got rich. The village is growing very fast because of these unique Light inventions. Ester is a powerful halcylian and loves to know more about alheer and its properties, but it's not most important thing in her life - she cares more about just the people and village. She is good at using alheer in specific ways, especially in self-defense and fighting (in opposite to Taris, she can't fight with any kind of real weapon), but she was always frustrated with the fact that halcylians have their own "limit" they can't pass over when they're sick or wounded. But in some moment...there happens something....that completely change Ester's limits in using the alheer. This is a fact that halcylians feels the temperature a bit differently These ones with very warm-colored Light endure heats better, but feel cold weather much more, and these ones with strong cold-colored Light - inversely. Ester, who has still green shade, but in very warm hue, doesn't feel any difference - though fire could harm her a lot, she'd get burned more easily than normal people, just as every halcylian with cold-colored Light. Psychically she's quite strong, but of course has some weakness, mentally she's even stronger, it's really hard to break her and make her emotions burst. She doesn't get nervous very easy, though she can imitate it to scare people. She has artistic soul and admires the world, but not idealise it. If she experiences something bad, she doesn't get too emotional, rather keeps it to herself. It's really hard to make her cry. She was never afraid of asking people to help her, especially in her homeless days; now she's more independent and individual but also if she knows she can't do something only by herself, she does not, tries to find help. She'd never want to live completely alone, people are very important to her - even those ones who claim to hate her, she thinks it's very interesting to see how people reacts to many unknown things. Ester rarely gets truly attached to certain people, though. And doesn't seem to be someone who needs a lot of personal attention or expressions of deep feelings. She's very ambitious and clever, but never got full education, though she promises herself to learn as much as she can to the end of her life. She's very good at writing, but seems like she doesn't enjoy reading books anymore; she prefers watching art and learning from the people, not from the written words. She keeps a lot of journals everytime, writes some fantasy fairytales and sometimes compose weird poems. She's also quite good at solving mysterious riddles and it's almost not possible to lying to her. Or maybe her eyes scare people too much that they think so. After Alfard, Silorind and Amaralf's actions Arevalte escapes from the mine, Ester's main mission is to prevent him from "rebuilding" himself and "implicating" his power in the whole nature. She is very determined to save not only her village, but much more, as Arevalte unconsciously grows so powerful that he is able to "infect" other lands as well. She knows that her halcylians have to cooperate to achieve it, so she literally forces them to work with her, even if it's really dangerous. Despite having an empathy, Ester might be not seen as the most sensitive person on the world. She manages a big thing and tries to care about every people involved in it, but not like, in a personal way. The fact that Ester is able to sacrifice an alive being for a greater good may be seen as "darker side" of her. |
Likes/dislikes + collecting things, for ex. letters + solving riddles + developing her knowledge about halcylians and their features + art in general + trains + both group and individual work + telling people stories but listen to their stories too + creating fantasty stories + sunrises + journeys + mess + angels + legends and fairytales + bears, horses + cinnamon + alcohol + late summer and early autumn + dried plants, weird decorations + writing journals + being that Horrible Witch for her rivals - being forced to something - jewellery - losing contact with people - sleeping for too long - staying at her home for longer than three days - naughty, aberrant people - little children - fish, both as animal and as food - most of books - being lied - elegant clothes - being sick - fearful paranoiacs - coffee - pets - when people disturb her - being bored |
Relations Amaralf - Her husband. They might be not a perfect match, but Braivada would never existed if these two didn't decide to work together. Most of people who don't know them personally wouldn't say that they're an actual couple if they saw them together - they usually hide their feelings. Actually Ester loves him very much and wouldn't replace him with any other man. Even though she knows about all his mistakes and bad things he did, Ester always deeply believes in him. Due to their lifestyle they don't have many opportunities to see each other a lot, so their relationship definitely isn't perfect, they often seem to be better co-workers than lovers. Amaralf is not a romantic type and sometimes he acts harshly and rude, but deep inside he is quite sensitive man. Although he can't express his feelings and sometimes treats Ester in bad way, he still loves her everytime. He makes a lot of mistakes in their relationship, but she's able to forgive him everything, believing that he really is a good man. He admits that he didn't exactly know what he was doing when they were getting married - he learns what is the love just now, after some years. He would do everything for her... but actually he does nothing, not directly for her. All her words are very important to him, but he seems to not care about her personally. He is sure that without her he would be completely lost in his life now, he sees her as the brightest light in his life, but it's really hard for him to admit it just in front of her, even after 6 years of being married. Before Ester became his wife, he had maaany other girlfriends, but he never loved them - everything was simply for fun, he wasn't aware of that he hurts these girls' feelings. Unfortunately sometimes he cheats on Ester because she travels so much that they meet very rarely. He is just pissed off that she appears in her own home so rarely - Amaralf probably would need someone more caring and playful than Ester is. Ester actually doesn't need a lot of attention and doesn't mind the fact they don't spend that much time together, she knows that their relationship is a bit unusual, but in contrast to Amaralf, she is fine with it. He often feels really guilty about all the things he does and is heavily ashamed of that, but he doesn't know how to admit it. Amaralf gets lost in his own feelings, it seems like he's still not mature enough to be with Ester, but she loves him despite everything - and strongly believes he has a good heart no matter what. She tries to help him with releasing his feelings and understands him even without words, but she, just like any other women, has her own boundaries too. Ester won't be always tolerating everything he does - but their feelings will always stay the same. This relationship is quite hard for both of them, though. It may seem like he's more important to her than she to him, but it's not true, he can't imagine his life without her. Amaralf changed a lot due to Ester's impact, but deep inside he feels like...he is...too guilty to be with her. He has some certain reasons to feel like this, because in the past, soon after their meeting, he has done some bad things to her. Ester was the first one who fell in love and came out with her feelings; it took some time for Amaralf to accept it and admit that he's enchanted by her as well. Some people still thinks Ester married him for money, but that's not true - the idea of Braivada was born some time later and it was Amaralf who suggested creating a brand new village. After Amaralf unconsciously helps the main villain to escape from the mine, Ester avoids blaming him publicly for this. When he admits to it in front of citizens and leaves Braivada, Ester tries to accept it, but it is really hard for her, even though she obviously doesn't show anything. They slowly attempt to get closer again when Amaralf comes back to help fighting with Valte. *Big Spoiler: In the end, Amaralf feels so desperated to help with the Spirit From The Mine, that when Ester finally finds a way to destroy it, he decides to sacrifice himself and die instead of her (which is very important for get rid of Valte). Taris - Ester's only femaly friend. Ester met Taris when she was still in Amaralf's team, but already more focused on her own life. However, she still was pretty sarcastic and cheeky, so she treated Ester without respect (and she was actually a bit afraid of her). She slowly started to change her mind about her when she discovered she is a very interesting being, not only random poor girl. She became interested about her more and although she couldn't admit it, she started to admire her quietly - just as Ester did about her. They still didn't want to get closer at this point. When they met, it seemed like they can rather become enemies than friends. One day Taris even shooted Ester in her arm - it was accidentally, but still, she could have killed her. Ironically, after this moment she started to care about her and they become more close to each other. Ester was enchanted by her from the beginning - actually their meeting in Hillade wasn't their first. Ester got a chance to see her performing something in other city. Ester helped her a lot when her health started to getting worse and she got pregnant - but later Taris helps her too. For a long time Ester is the only female that Taris lets be so close to her. Of course she doesn't like her so much only because she's a 'original magical being'. There is big respect between them and they both mean a lot to each other. Ester made Taris her own deputy in Braivada village, so she must have relied on her (though it wasn't really the thing Taris truly wanted to do). These both are really different and there are a lot of contrasts between them, their personalities seem to be just like fire and water, but there are also some things that they share. Unfortunately, their relationship changes a lot after Ester discovers WHAT Adam wants to do to save Taris from death. She doesn't approve it at all because she is aware that it will require killing other people - and she - even as her best friend - claims that he should let her die. In the near future they will stop being so close, Ester will be treating her rather coldly, yet Taris won't be able to understand why it happens. Ester herself understands that it's not Taris' fault, as Taris is completely unaware about Adam's plan, but she just can't look into her eyes anymore. Ester also suspects a lot about Alfard's actions for her. Alfard literally released Arevalte from his eternal prison only because he wanted to be free from the curse, so he could save Taris from the punishment for her crime. Gerda - Her older sister. They never had good relations - all because of that their mother was favourizing Ester and never cared about Gerda. Gerda always treated her badly and told her to never use her halcylians' abilities. Ester didn't want to be seen as her victim, so she did some mean things to her too (she forced her boyfriend to leave her when she was pregnant). When she was about 17-18, Gerda threw her away from home and banished her from the city - that's why Ester became homeless for next 6 years. After some years, she revenges her by taking her son away. It's actually the best thing she could do for Marcel, because Gerda was treating him really bad. Teresa - Her mother; she always wanted everything the best for her and loved her a lot, but she didn't want her to use her Light at all, and generally she was ashamed of being a halcylian. She died when Ester was 10. Ester doesn't remember her father, because he died when she was a baby, but it was said that he was a great doctor and cared about his family a lot. Timo was actually killed by ruffians (led by Yngvar Reistad in that time). Saoirse - Her parents' friend, a patient who they saved; she was looking after little Ester sometimes. She was very fascinated by halcylians and their powers and encouraged Ester to use it. She is an old lady now, but they still exchange letters sometimes. Marcel - Her nephew. She had no idea that Gerda has a son until she saw him at cemetary near his grandparents' grave. When she finds out about his situation, she takes him to Braivada/Hillade and lets him living without his mean mother. He will definitely enjoy that, their relationship is still unsure though. Vivril - Ester has very interesting relation with the leader of ruffians team. They consider themselves as enemies, but don't try to personally disturb each other, don't try to fight directly. Due to the "curse" that Ester casted on Braivada, he just can't discover the secred of the village and he keeps thinking that Ester is the only one dangerous "witch", which is quite beneficial for Braivada village. Vivril claims that he hates Ester and wants her death, but treats her in very reserved, even polite way. Secretly he's really fascinated by her - he always was, just since she had appeared in Hillade. He was absolutely envy when he found out that his rival, Amaralf, got married with her - but Vivril never admits to it. He always claims he strives to destroy/take over Braivada, but actually, since some time, he does nothing to achieve that. It might even look like Vivril wants to get rid of...his own team of ruffians. He probably has enough of the life as a bandit. Later it's said that he indeed has some kind of a crush on her and he can't live with these feelings. Even more surprisingly, Vivril saves Braivada from a man he made a pact with, Rigel Hegermann (he used to believe they will destroy Braivada together). *Big Spoiler: After Amaralf sacrifices himself to get rid of Arevalte + Vivril disbands his team, Ester slowly becomes closer to her ex-enemy. They become a couple after year 1900 (which is absolutely shocking for society), however, their relationship is more platonic, not sexual based. Silorind - Ester is probably the first halcylian that Silorind honestly admires and has a lot of hopes about her. Ester is very curious about the secrets he's hiding and she knows that he has huge knowledge about the Light. Their relations aren't like a "master and his student" though, because Ester doesn't treat him with big respect (Silorind annoys everyone, even Ester lost her patience for him). In fact, Ester is the first person that Silorind cares about - 30 years after he lost his first and last love. There isn't any romantic relation between him and Ester, because she's younger than him about 60 years, but from some reasons he really depends on her. Sometimes he wants to use her and thinks like she's way more persistent, almost immortal. In the end, he gives her access to his deepest secrets and has hope that she'll be his "successor". He has some silent hopes that in the future she will be fighting with Arevalte's expansion. Arevalte - The mysterious spirit imprisoned in the mine before Amaralf's team started their work there. After discovering Silorind's secrets, Ester is fully aware of that who is Arevalte and what are his main goals. Arevalte tends to claim that besides from him and Silorind there also lives third halcylian who is so special, powerful and has a big meaning for the world. He is sure that it's Ester, but for all the time he doesn't know why - there is nothing really special about Ester's powers. Valte never knew her personally, but he meets her once, when he's still a spirit imprisoned underground. And then something unusual happens - because he accidentally "splits" his own part and "infects" Ester with his energy. In this moment Ester really becomes a very powerful being because she literally loses her limits in using her Light. It's kinda like Arevalte strenghthen his rival by himself. That's why Ester is literally the only hacylian who doesn't have the automatic "limit". Surprisingly, it also helps her to heal (for example, her wounds on her back disappeared soon after this happened). Ester is the one who Silorind chose to protect the world from Arevalte, so she is basically Arevalte's main enemy now. Ester knows what kind of process can stop Arevalte from expanding himself and infecting the world with too powerful Light essence - but she needs all her halcylians to unite and work together. It is really not that easy... as there are... a lot of conflicts in Braivada right now. Ester compares Arevalte to a huge octopus whose head knows what it does, but the tentacles remain unaware and live its own life. Marianna - Ester found Marianna and helped her to get to Braivada where she could live in peace. She's the only one person who knows about her crime, but never told anyone about this, as she's aware that Marianna is mentally sick. She decided to give her this chance and hopes that she'll recover. There's no particular bond between them but it's said that Marianna admires her a bit. Valeria - The woman who helped her a lot when she was homeles. After some years, their relations still are friendly, even though they rarely see each other. They write letters and exchange some small things. Ester is still thankful to her for everything she did for her in the past. Valeria visits her in Braivada 1-2 times in year, but in the current moment in the story, Valeria just stucks here for longer time. It may seem like Valeria has some motherly feelings to her. Ester has absolutely no idea that sweet and caring Valeria is actually Vivril's twin sister. Adam - Ester has no particular bond with Adam, for most time they're rather neutral, he had nothing against halcylians before the main action - but it changes while the big conflict between halcylians and people occures in Braivada village. He's trying to force Ester to tell him very important secret about the magical substance that may extend Taris' life. She refuses to do it, as she knows WHAT is needed to produce this thing, but he is so insisted and rough that she finally gives up (Adam shots her). Thanks to her, Adam has the recipe, but she doesn't even want to believe that he ever will be able to use it. It's very hard for Ester to accept the fact Taris is addicted to this horrible thing and she doesn't even know about it. He accuses her for some bad things that happen to his family and no longer respects her. He stops supporting her and Braivada. In Ester's eyes, Adam had become a true devil. Amaralf's team - She is highly respected by all the men in the team, but they don't have any close relations; she's probably the closest with the twins Ignis and Irdolf who travel with her sometimes. Saida - She wants to get rid of Ester and take her role in new Braivada. She thinks that the rules she set in the village are bad and unfair for halcylians, since they should get more respect and be treated like special beings. Saida criticizes her everytime and suspects she only uses them to make the village more rich (because of the inventions made with their Light), generally she doesn't approve that halcylians work with people there. Obviously she would never want to kill Ester, as all the halcylians are very important for her. Of course Ester doesn't want her in Braivada, but deep inside she starts to feel pity for her for some reasons. Also, Hilissan forces her to accept Saida's presence in the village. Saida absolutely hates the fact Ester tries to prevent Arevalte from expanding himself and tries to stop her from it, believing that her Father will help the whole world. These two have some serious fights. Hilissan - Ester is very angry at both Saida and Hillissan for all their attempts of unnecessary interfering in Braivada, but while Saida acts like absolutely mad evil bitch, Hilissan seems to be more reasonable. It doesn't make Ester like him more at all. After the whole lies about Taris gets explained, Hilissan apologizes to Ester and offers her his help, as Braivada slowly deteriorates. He never fully accepts her as his leader though, and Ester never trusts him. He still tries to defend Saida, even when the worst facts about her come out, what is hard to accept for Ester, and that's why she refuses to fully believe him. The more time passes by, the more Ester is convinced that Hilissan is a pathetic insincere liar. As she sees he doesn't wish to leave Braivada, she keeps using him in some risky tasks. |
Other info - She was created in late 2014, however, in that year she was still only just a rough concept. She got her design in late 2015 and since that time it almost hadn't changed. - The Braivada village lies in a big valley that once was Silorind's family's property and the legends say this ground is actually cursed. It was formed around 1888, it's placed next to Hillade city where Amaralf's family lives. It was Amaralf's idea to create a village there, but it was Ester's idea to add the magical part for sure, and she is the person who rules this place. Amaralf was very impressed with the mine he found there, but neither him, his team, or even Ester, were aware of WHAT hides in these dark caves. At the beginning Silorind didn't want them to start the work in this place...and it would be honestly better if he kept insisting on it. Braivada quickly got richer than other old villages around, so it began to attract attention, both wanted and unwanted. After some seriously weird things start to occur here, Ester isn't sure if she should be that proud of it anymore... but still, she knows that only halcylians of Braivada are able to defend the world from getting infected by Arevalte's chaos, and tries to do everything to keep this village alive, even when it seems like it just breaks apart. Maybe it is really cursed? - She never kills anyone in the story. - She decided to keep her own surname after marriage. - From some reason Ester is really bad at learning languages and often has to ask Taris for help while writing letters to people from other countries. She also can't swim or sew. - She is infertile and will never be able to have children. There is a certain reason for this. Amaralf is partly guilty for this and that's why he will never stop feeling the need to apologize her. Ester doesn't feel bad about this, though - she simple wouldn't want children at all. - Ester is mentioned in the second story as well, where she must be around 60-70s - it's said that she used to exchange letters with Variel's grandpa. - Her most significant fairytale is probably Flora from the Land of Twelve Suns, which fragments appear in the story. For some reason Amaralf takes this story very seriously. - As a child, she stopped taking lessons when her mother died, so she ended her eduaction at age 10. She has a knowledge about world from her own experiences, other people's stories and literature. - All her stories are anonymous (or she uses her alter egos like Reil Myran or Stella Seashell). - She collects cards with writing of every people she meets and it seems to be very important to her, she also makes scarecrows which reminds of some people she knows. - She never uses guns or any other kind of weapon. Her weapon is just her own Light. - Her pupils are always very wide. - In the future Linnea will become her successor in Braivada. |
