About

Oh, but this time I have come up with a really good riddle, I swear!
riNsxVc.png

A pampered lapcat, it's often hard to believe Omarion is of the same kin as the fierce and wise sphinxes. Growing up surrounded by the riches of the palace and servants to answer his every call, Omarion usually comes off as arrogant, entitled and painfully naive about the ways of the world outside of his luxurious home. He has an exaggerated understanding of his own capabilities and academic intellect, and if it wasn't for his delicate and attractive appearance, others would undoubtedly have put him back to his place by now. Unfortunately the fickleness of felines often works in their favor, and people have a hard time saying no to Omarion’s pleading eyes and the way he pulls his lips when he pouts.

While his inflated ego is something he sincerely believes to be a realistic representation of his abilities, deep inside Omarion is painfully insecure about himself and his place in the world — after all, he's becoming increasingly aware of just how harshly others of his own kind look down on him for his lifestyle. Omarion may still believe that his parents were the ferocious beasts of the wilderness he thinks they were, but he won't be able to ride on the reputation of them forever: he has to do something to earn the respect of the other sphinxes, without the help of his servants — and it terrifies him far more than it probably should.

Personality

Born and raised in the palace, Omarion has been spoiled rotten by the queen who could no longer bear children of her own. Everything he could ask for was given to him on a silver platter, the servants having no choice but to indulge his whims and obey his orders. The widowed queen poured all her love into the young sphinx, raising him with little concern for rules or much understanding of the world outside the palace and its gardens. As a result Omarion would grow up arrogant and entitled but likewise very naive and much too trusting: the idea of anyone wishing him harm feels absurd to him, considering the adoration he has grown up surrounded with.

More than aware of his own attractiveness, it's hardly a surprise that Omarion is very vain and fussy about his appearance. Though he can be a tad insecure about his lack of mane and his small size, Omarion knows his looks are an important asset when it comes to persuading others, getting out of trouble or demanding the attention of others. Having the undivided attention of the queen at all times especially as a young cub, Omarion wants to be included, noticed and adored at all times. He struggles sharing the spotlight with others and will get visibly irritated if he thinks he's not getting the attention he deserves. While this is undoubtedly a pain to deal with, Omarion is surprisingly good at passing on the good he receives: he enjoys showering those he loves in gifts and compliments, and is rather attentive towards others in spite of what people might expect.

While it's true that Omarion is quite a handful to deal with most of the time, he doesn't actually mean any real harm to others: he may be painfully entitled and ignorant, but would never want to be intentionally cruel. Deep inside he's quite insecure about himself and his place in the world, his theatherisics often a way of reassuring himself that nothing in his life needs to change and that he deserves the privileges he receives. However, the older he gets the more aware he becomes of the way the other sphinxes look down on him: he knows he'll eventually have to prove his own worth — without the help of his servants.

Design

HAIR: Cream white, soft & wavy with a fur-like texture
EYES: Green, resemble human but have a feline-like shape
EYELASHES: Dark, distinctively long outer corners
LIPS: Light, small, feline-like shape due to his long fangs
NOSE: Human nose; small and pointy
WINGS: Orange-yellow feathers, around the size of his own body
BODY TYPE: Small and lithe, closer to a cat than a lion
CONSTITUTION: Haughty, arrogant, elegant
OTHER: His face is a human face with no fur, paws resemble hands, has pearl hair decorations

Omarion is a young sphinx nearing the end of his adolescence, though still has room for physical growth: he is relatively small and lithe for a male sphinx, especially given he’s almost an adult. Omarion's fur is cream yellow with cream white fur on his paws, tail tip and inner parts of ears. His hair is also the same cream colour; soft and wavy curls combed around his head so that it resembles mane a little — Omarion has no proper mane to speak of, something he’s quite insecure about.

He has the face of a human, his skin tone identical to the darker colour of his coat. He has narrow, bright yellow eyes framed by long and thick eyelashes. His eyebrows are the same color as his hair. His face shape is on the rounder side, and together with his small nose and red lips gives him a rather feminine appearance — something he seems quite proud of. A pair of round lion ears sprouts out of his head, and he has a pair of feathered wings growing from his back; upper feathers murky orange and the lower feathers dirty white.

Almost always wears expensive jewelry around his neck, his most typical attire consisting of golden cuffs on his front paws, red-and-orange choker with earrings matching the red, as well as pearls woven into his hair. He occasionally wears shoulder pads as well, likewise matching the warm color scheme of his choker.

His paws resemble hands and he’s able to walk on his hind legs, though not for long periods of time — sphinxes are quadrupedal by default. His wings give him limited flight, being able to hold him in the ear but not strong enough to carry him for long distances. They’re still in the process of growing.

History

Summary: Having lost his parents in a fire, Omarion was raised by the recently widowed queen of the palace and under the assumption his parents used to be wild sphinxes before their servitude in the palace. He was raised with little rules or consequences for his actions; protected from the world so tight he now lacks common sense and good manners. He would eventually meet an adult sphinx who would teach him the ways of his own kind, now struggling between choosing his privileged life and the respect of his own kin.

Things lost to flames

Though Omarion lives under the assumption that his parents lived in the wilderness, in actuality the two had never set their paws on the unmapped soils of the forest: born and raised in the midst of civilization, Omarion's mother was a royal advisor and his father the treasury guardian. The other sphinxes looked down on them for living in servitude rather than pursuing a proud and independent life, but the two seemed perfectly content in their privileged and comfortable living at the palace. Omarion's parents loved each other deeply, and they were overjoyed when their first cub — Omarion — was born. However, the two would lose their lives in a fire that destroyed a large portion of the palace, sacrificing themselves to make sure their only son would get to live on.

Having lost her husband in the same fire, the now widowed Queen took Omarion under her wing to cope with the loss — after all, the flames had claimed something important to the both of them; something they could never get back. As her adult son stepped in to take care of her late husband's duties, the Queen raised Omarion like her own son that she wanted to shield from the dangers of the world. Omarion grew up spoiled and arrogant, always getting exactly what he wanted and hardly experiencing negative consequences to his thoughtless actions. And because the subject of his parents' death was a difficult one, Omarion ended up misunderstanding their past and thinking they were born in the wilderness; wild and untameable. Because he latched onto this perceived legacy of his parents, nobody had the heart to tell Omarion the truth about his parents.

Meeting Sheila

While Omarion was seemingly allowed to explore his enormous home and the areas around it freely, there was always a servant in secret following his trail and keeping an eye out on him. During one of these expeditions he ran into Sheila, a wild sphinx living deep in the wilderness and unwilling to bow down or serve anyone. Nevertheless, she pitied the young cub with no other sphinxes around him and decided to start teaching him more about his own kind and their history. Sheila was never the one to coddle Omarion, but she would often show an uncharacteristically gentle and patient nature with the badly behaving cub. Their relationship is very familial, Sheila seeing Omarion as her younger brother and Omarion likewise viewing the other sphinx as the older sibling he never had. Perhaps it's precisely because of this that Omarion often tests the limits of Sheila's patience on purpose, but she's hardly the one to entertain his rebellious streaks: if Omarion steps out of the line, Sheila will in no uncertain terms make it clear to him.

Currently

Omarion spends his days mainly annoying the treasury guardis with his pointless riddles, sleeping on his soft bed or exploring the areas outside his home. He's no longer a small cub and is fast approaching adulthood, the teachings of Sheila guiding him slowly towards independence and a more self preserving nature. Nevertheless, Omarion struggles with the knowledge that other sphinxes look down on him: he would very much not like to give up on the privileges and luxuries he has in life, but at the same time desperately wants to prove his own worth and gain the respect of his own kin.

Skills & abilities

  • Capable of flying short distances with his still developing wings. They can be used for gliding as well.

  • Unlike feral lions, Omarion is able to purr. He seems to lack the ability to cause fear and panic in people with his roaring, but it’s a skill he doesn’t really need in the first place — he has no reason to intimidate anyone when the palace guards can do it for him.

  • Despite the affinity sphinxes have for riddles, Omarion is objectively awful at coming up with his own and doesn’t even seem to realize it himself: he thinks his riddles are perfectly fine, and the only reason people struggle solving them is because his riddles are just too good to be solved.

  • Enjoys guarding things, as many sphinxes seem to do. Most often he is seen “guarding” the treasury of the palace by lying on top of the coins and gems, bothering the actual guards of the vault with his illogical riddles.

  • Can stand on his hind legs for short periods of time, as well as move and gesture in more human-like ways. He also has hand-like paws, slightly clumsier than human hands but able to hold objects. His anatomy resembles anthropomorphic animals like those seen in Zootopia.

Trivia

  • Will do just about anything if he’ll get praised for it.

  • He is a little insecure about his lack of full mane, considering male sphinxes of his age should already have grown at least a small mane. To hide what he perceives as a flaw, Omarion has grown his hair long and combs it so that it falls on his sides, making it resemble a mane. He’s very proud of what he considers as “an excellent example of the deception” he’s capable of.

  • Though he’s undoubtedly a coward who hates hard work, Omarion still has it in him to fight back when push really comes to shove — it just doesn’t usually happen, given how sheltered his life is.

  • No longer a cub but not quite an adult either, Omarion occasionally likes to test the limits of other’s patience and see just what kind of thing he can get away with. Regardless, he fancies himself as an adult already and hates to be treated as a child.
