Summary
Darkness and quiet decends upon the land, and among the twinkles of the distant stars, through the orange streetlights reflected off of the clouds, by the moon's gleam, a golden glow appears - Sanja, the dream goddess, come to cast her magic over the sleeping mortals of the world.
For a goddess who travels the world not merely twice a year, as the seasonal deities of her pantheon do, nor works their magic from afar, as the deity of life and death does, or has managed to procure underlings to do her job for her, as the sky goddess has, one would expect Sanja to live a much busier life than she really does. Night falls at all times, after all, and even in day, creatures like owls and bats rest their heads. But Sanja's title is... not inaccurate, exactly, but not quite the whole story. The goddess does bring dreams to the world, certainly, but consider, if you will, the last time you remembered your dreams - Was it last night's dream? The night before? Perhaps it's been months since you could recall your sleeping visions. Sanja's mere presence in the world causes dreams on its own - It's the twinkles of her power, left to fall and scatter like snow as she wanders the the world, that allows mortals to recall them.
Having said that, Sanja isn't entirely absent from her duties. While much of her work is simply the result of her presence, she doesn't entirely control these powers from afar. If you've ever found yourself suddenly awoken from an unpleasant dream, only to find that when you lie your head back down that their sequels are much more pleasant, you might want to thank the goddess of dreams for her divine intervention... and perhaps, if you look out your window before you drift off, you'll see a hint of a golden glow in the darkness of the night.
Trivia
- The golden cloud charm on Sanja's collar was given to her by Araceli as a welcome gift when she joined the pantheon. Despite the sky goddess's rather irksome pestering, Sanja still carries the charm with her; annoying though she might be at times, the dream goddess still appreciates the gesture, and Araceli's friendship, unusual though it may be.
- Followers of Sanja often take to exploring their dreams further than most, cataloging and attempting to interpret them; some even go to the extent of learning to control the dreams themselves though lucid dreaming. The goddess often takes note of these behaviors, finding them rather charming, and when able to, tries to direct a few glints of her power towards those who dedicate their time to these pursuits as a sort of reward and to encourage their interest.
