Profile
Harahel is the deuteragonist of the in-progress visual novel Et le grain mourut. He is a cold-hearted guardian angel who doesn't quite like his job, and often finds excuses to not watch over his protégé 24/7.
Before he became a guardian angel, Harahel was working as a librarian in Heaven, where he was hiding his unorthodox taste in books under the guise of research.
About
The librarian switching between flowery language and langage fleuri
A good angel, but not by choice.
Harahel is often seen as a respectful and serious individual, even if that is not exactly the case. Indeed, he is, in reality, more of a perfectionist who wants to avoid trouble rather than a genuinely hard-working person. He is also often perceived as cold and apathetic, and doesn't care about how people see him, as long as he does not have to fear punishment. While polite with his superiors and other acquaintances or strangers, he actually is extremely foul-mouthed.
Harahel works as the only librarian of Heaven, and is known for drying flowers in library books and staying reading until late at night. He also enjoys reading a lot of banned books and other kinds of content that angelic society sees as morally questionable or polemical, generally imported from Earth. He is not really positive about the way Heaven is currently governed either, and tends to be very critical of the Archangels' work. Thankfully, nobody would ever suspect him of such a heresy.
What is true, however, is that Harahel is extremely humble, and dislikes being praised for his work or knowledge. He considers himself to be "nobody in particular" and has no interest in people trying to know him better. Enter his library with the intention of befriending him, and he will only try to guide you towards books he thinks you might like.
Being an angel, Harahel can naturally understand any language without effort, and thus can read any version of a book, no matter its translation. However, he has a strong preference for original versions: he believes that the core of the message can sometimes be lost in translation.
The guardian angel whose heart was two sizes too small
Despite Harahel's original vocation as a librarian, Prince Raphaël sort of insisted so much he became a guardian angel because of his great knowledge of human society and reputation of being hard-working. This made Harahel's resentment towards the Princes of Heaven even bigger. As a result, Harahel is a rare case in a world where angels are excepted to be considerate and warm. This is even truer among guardian angels, who see Prince Raphaël as a role model.
And thus, Harahel moved on Earth on November 22, 1908, in Paris.
Thankfully, Harahel's protégé, Olivier, ended up being a dedicated reader just like him, who grew up with full bookshelves since his childhood. Harahel's assigned human always had a pretty tranquil life, and never felt the need to call upon his guardian angel except for studies and school exams, so Harahel had plenty of free time. To avoid boredom, Harahel borrows books from his protégé in secrecy, explaining why Olivier often finds out that some books have disappeared or are replaced at a different place than before.
Harahel prefers to let Olivier face difficulties and adversities on his own rather than overprotecting him, unless he is in great danger or distress. According to the angel's opinion, it is the best way to make the young man stronger and more mature. Overall, in spite of his detached nature, Harahel hopes that his protégé will be able to make it to Heaven, but he cares about going back home in order to pursue his vocation as a librarian the most.
However, thinking that Harahel ignores Olivier's emotions would be a mistake. Indeed, being his guardian angel, he is the one who knows the best about his deepest secrets, including the fact that he has attempted suicide several times. The reasons for this include various things that Harahel has no control over, such as Olivier's feud with his family, or his unrequited love for one of his friends. In these situations, the best Harahel can do is to try to comfort him and give him hope, symbolized by his little lamp, that he never left since Olivier's first suicidal thought.
Still, besides Olivier, Harahel doesn't really care about other human beings. He doesn't hate them, he is just neutral about them.

Trivia
- Harahel's usual writing style could be compared to Beige Prose. He has a very pretty handwriting.
- Harahel couldn't care less about gender and romance. He uses he/him pronouns and would tick the “male” box if he had to, but describes himself as an angel first and foremost.
- Like nearly all angels, Harahel was conscripted into Prince Michel’s army during the Great Angelic War (not to be mistaken with the human Great War, although Harahel has seen both). Needless to say that he hated it. He knew he would be banished from Heaven if he refused, so, as usual, he kept his opinions to himself.
- He was an average fighter, who could have been better if he had the motivation to. He loathed his allies, who were all faithful admirers of whom he mockingly calls “Goldilocks”.
- His original halo was badly damaged during the war. His new one was handcrafted by himself.
- When Olivier is drinking at the bar, Harahel will usually do it too. He does it mostly to pass the time, and has learned to like the taste as well. Since he is an angel, he can't get drunk.
- He can also be seen smoking for the aesthetic. He "borrows" cigarettes from Olivier's father. He just "borrows" anything he wants from Oli's family, using the fact that is his guardian angel as an excuse.
- According to some, he smells like wildflowers.
- Why he likes Olivier is a mystery to many, even to him. Some would defend the opinion that it is because of a so-called “guardian angel instinct”. Harahel does not believe in "such bullshit".
- Harahel is extremely romance-repulsed; seeing people engaging in public displays of affection or talking about their romantic life makes him uncomfortable and revolted.
- He used to read books to Olivier when he was a little child. Sometimes it was regular children’s books. Sometimes it was The Communist Manifesto.
