SPIRIT

AGELESS

FEMALE

Deirdre, Decay Incarnate

She was born in a dying forest, amidst its desire to live and flourish, but also in its misery and agony. Because of this, she may be seen by lost hikers, guiding them through the forest's maze-like paths and thorny undergrowth, but unforgiving towards people who mean harm.
She has a duality in her nature that can make her unpredictable and hard to understand. She does not speak, yet people and animals alike always seem to understand what she means if she wants them to.

She walks through the dead trees, trying to cultivate life in between its rotten roots, spreading seeds and plants wherever she can. Nothing seems to survive long in the toxic ground, though. Deirdre nonetheless tries to revive it by stealing potted plants from a village nearby and attempting to plant them. As a result, the forest is filled with broken pots and the dried corpses of once-flourishing plants.

Extra Info

Created by Nyx, the dark deity, to be a servant. She does not remember how, but recalls being cast into the forest, confused and alone. As a spirit of decay, she had an owl's skull instead of a face, and the already struggling forest began to rot and die even more. Despite this, it still accepted Deirdre as its daughter. From her adoptive mother, the woods, she inherited a strong will and endless patience, but also the cruelty and mercilessness of nature. She has a will for the forest to live, and will try to achieve this at the expense of others, mostly humans.

In an attempt to save her home, Deirdre devoted herself to Solitude over Nyx. This made Nyx very angry, but Solitude took pity on the poor thing and gave her an owl's face to fit the skull underneath, as well as suppress Deirdre's influence of decay. In her gratitude, Deirdre gave her a potted plant.

You stand a little too close, and the owlish spirit screetches, annoyed.
