Profile

A post-apocalyptic patent medicine saleswoman with a flair for the dramatic. While undeniably charismatic, Yun has never once in her life sounded trustworthy to anyone; rather, she gives the impression that she’ll definitely betray you someday, but something makes you want to stick around and see how exactly it plays out. This distracts you from the fact that she has in fact already swindled you out of all your money and is planning on skipping town in a couple hours.

She never stays in one place for long; braving the post-apocalyptic wilds is still less of a gamble than waiting for her many, many enemies to catch up with her. For the first week or so in a new town, people actually believe her. After that? Well, hey. So maybe these little potions don’t do anything. But they are chock-full of alcohol, and what with the end of the world you haven’t gotten your hands on any of that in years, have you? And when you think about that, don’t you feel a little headache coming on? Excellent; that’ll be five bottlecaps.

Story: She would tell you she was raised by a pack of nomads, who exiled her after she expressed her opinion that their mutie shaman's mystical knowledge of the healing arts should be shared with the world, so now she travels the wasteland alone recreating what she knows of their elixirs and selling them to people to better their lives, and in fact she's offering some great deals on fever tonics today if you're looking to buy. About ten words of that is actually true.

(Her actual backstory is left intentionally ambiguous, so that it can be a conga line of noodle incidents involving pissing off very important people who now want her dead.)

Trivia:

  • Her weird gaudy patched-together aesthetic is very calculated; it makes an impression during the advertising phase, and when the militia comes for her she can just take the coat off and instantly disappear into the crowd. Half the patches are secret pockets, too.
  • She rides around on a suspiciously tame giant mutant moose named Darby. She says he was a parting gift from her nomad clan. You can draw your own conclusions about how true that is.
  • She exists because I had a PDF of the Atomic Highway playbook on my laptop while stuck on a 13-hour flight. She’s based on Sawbones episodes about patent medicine men, the stereotypical DnD bard archetype, and a specific character I’m far too embarrassed to name. Rough character sheet below.
