Gamma & Zeta

Credit of the following snippet to Scholarpedia, "Santiago Ramón y Cajal was a Spanish physician and scientist considered to be the founder of modern neurobiology. He was the first to report with precision the fine anatomy of the nervous system. His findings were central in the elaboration of the neuron doctrine: Cajal demonstrated that the nervous system was made up of individual cells connected to each other by small contact zones. The 3 anatomical structures previously described as separate by Deiters — the cell body, the axis cylinder  and the protoplasmic processes  were actually all part of an individual nerve cell." 

The funny thing about twins is that so many of them are either frighteningly identical or worlds apart, and these twins certainly fall right into the latter category. It’s cliched, almost – Gamma is the sweet, playful one, the one whose feelings are easily hurt by sharp words and the one who might be just a tad bit obsessive about cleanliness. Zeta is the angry brother, the one whose sense of humour is somewhat twisted, the one who snaps at the slightest provocation and would rather bite first, talk later. One would expect hot-headed, impatient Zeta to be the dominant twin, with Gamma trailing placidly along with his decisions, but the truth is quite the opposite. Gamma’s biggest follower and staunchest protector is none other than his own brother, and there is very little Zeta can deny Gamma the moment his kinder half sets his mind on something, even if it leaves him grouchy and whining the whole way. That is not to say that they do not get into tussles, of course, for they do almost every single day, in the way of brothers. Always wrestleing over the last scrap of meat.
