Experiment 519 - Designation Nicolas [Nico]

While Nicolas was not the first successful 'mixed evolution', he was the first successful shiny with a 'mixed evolution'. As he was shiny from the start, he was spared most of the experiments usually conducted on the Eevees, but that didn't mean he escaped all of them. Though, the true horror only started after his evolution took place.

As he was shiny from the start, Nicolas was shown more care and love than the average test pokémon; more food, more attention and, overall, more freedom to explore and test boundaries. One such exploration lead him to Eloise, who was a weirdly striped Eevee back then, though they didn't meet very often, with the many experiments Eloise didn't escape from.

Being showered in both love and affection, mostly throughout the day, triggered Nicolas' evolution, surprising many scientists. They had purposely kept him away from any stones, in an attempt to control when and what he evolved into. As there already were mixed evolutions and the focus had shifted to gene splicing and evolving the hybrids, Nicolas didn't garner as much attention as the first few mixed evolutions had, but his colourings made sure he was never quite without any attention either.

As there were fewer tests, he usually had a longer recovery time, which allowed him to get to know Eloise a little better each time and help her through her hardest moments. Whenever there was a test, though, he was usually exhausted and starved, most tests focusing on the difference between his mix and the seperate normal stats and, separately, between his shiny and non-shiny form.

One thing he did not manage to escape, was the pain of his genetics being messed with, the scientists forcing his non-shiny colouring to appear, just to sate their curiousity. As there were others this was done to before, they immediately made the change temporary, so he'd only feel the pain once.

This did have the, unwanted, effect of Nicolas being able to freely switch between the shiny and non-shiny forme, possibly due to his psychic typing. One close encounter with Eloise's sharp and fiery claws has made the non-shiny forme his default, but when he's exhausted (either physically or mentally) he reverts back to his real default, the shiny form.

His escape was sudden, but not as sudden as for the others. Seeing Eloise [and the others] continuing to suffer at the hands, he had psychically altered a scientist's brain, implanting the idea of snitching to the police. As he didn't know when the police would take action, he wasn't sure when it would happen, but as he knew it would, he tried to stick as close to Eloise as possible. During the heist, he hid, together with her, using his powers to try and escape notice, successfully.

Once everyone had left, he lead the way out, making sure Eloise knew he was there every step of the way. Having known kindness, to some extent, he wasn't as bound by mental scars or nightmares, but the late night conversations and comforting had forged a bond that couldn't be broken.

The love came gradually, but it was already strong enough that, despite the freedom to go wherever he wants, he'll wait until the end of time for Eloise to be able to take that final step herself. As long as she's there, he's home. No matter where that is.
