About
Kayto, at her core, is 3 things: Scrappy, Selfish, and Crafty. Her life is a balancing act of meeting her many wants without making herself look bad in the eyes of society at large.
She became a Belle because it seemed like a perfect place for her: opportunity to fight criminals and monsters while serving in a highly-respected position. It doesn't pay super well in the traditional sense, but she finds a way to bolster her income eventually: All she has to do is look the other way while a few townspeople 'mysteriously disappear', and her side-employer will provide her with her very own Faerealm to live out whatever fantasy she wishes within.
Which is great for a while until it becomes apparent that Justice is actually real and not some metaphorical bogeyman, and comes calling for her head because she broke her oath to protect the people and not succumb to corruption.
Fortunately, she is saved by a fellow Belle(who really according to her own oaths should have let Kayto die).
Unfortunately, Kayto has to flee the town in fear of another attempt on her life and now has to figure out a way to continue paying rent on her faerealm. And also maybe there's something to feel guilty about(if she can feel guilt at all) between costing her friend an arm, and continuing to actively involve herself in human trafficking despite her own brother recently being returned after being a victim of said crime
Personality & Outlook
Under the impression that EVERYONE has to force emotional displays & frankly doesn't get or like it but also doesn't want people to think she's a monster so Every interaction she has is more of a forced attempt at appearing to be a normal person with like, feelings and shit than an actual attempt to connect with another person.
Still kinda rough around the edges & combative, tries to play a 'punk with a heart of gold' persona.
Doesn't want your fucking sympathy.
Assumes everyone is fake as shit. Sees all rules as equally arbitrary and not really based in anything but tradition(she tries to obey them because she is playing society as a game she wants to win, but if her wants conflict with a law she'll find a way to justify/skirt around/hide it.
Powers & Assets
Fighter
She's trained in a handful of martial arts over the years, and though she never actually attained mastery in any of them she knows enough and trains enough and is tenacious enough to be someone you don't want to end up in a brawl with. Also supplements her punches with magic.
TrueSight
Unlike most people, isn't completely disoriented by stepping into a faerealm. Presumably an ability granted by Waife when she was given domain over one of her faerealms.

He reappears at around the same time Kayto returns home to live with their mom, and the irony of him being a victim of human trafficking is not lost on Kayto. She mostly avoids him while she tries to justify her continued crimes to herself. She used to care about him in that 'I'm the only one who's allowed to harass my sibling' sort of way, but he's weird now. | ||

| Caileb's girlfriend before he was abducted. Kayto's glad she was around to help her mom grieve because she doesn't think she could have done a good job being completely alone with her in that, since she mainly works out her emotions by hitting things & mom isn't nearly as violent. | ||

Q & A
Q: What's the story behind Kayto's tattoo?
A: (OOC) Honestly, Kayto is the result of me wondering what the worst possible Hawke(Dragon Age 2 protagonist) would be like? Just the one that makes all of the most selfish & assholish decisions. And Dragon age as an entity can not have a character creator without face tattoos so of course she has one(it's not the one she had in game, but still an homage to it).
The design I went with kinda-vaguely draws on the Eye of Horus, partly because of the association with the sun/gold, partly because me like a swirly thing. Plus it's often a symbol of protection/protection beyond death, which in fiction suits Kayto's needs/desires enough to warrant a physical mark imo.
