DESCRIPTION
Deadpan and stoic to the core, Sylviana is a girl whose severe humor deficit only matches her lack of imagination. Seeing the world through the lens of statistics and science, almost everything is predictable; certain – almost boring. Day to day Sylviana is fearless and obstinate because of that comfort, knowing how to get things done. Meticulous to a fault, she obsesses over the smallest bit of data, her studies, and her appearance. Working tirelessly to study the stars and everything beyond, most of her days are spent isolated away from what she calls “unknown variables”. These “unknown variables” are anyone other than herself. People are unpredictable at their core, unquantified, their intentions beyond the protection of numbers and science.
Although outwardly unfeeling, Sylviana is extremely scared of others in fear of what boils underneath the surface. She meets uncertainty and change with hatred, even within her own dreams and body. Sylviana’s heart is also strictly closed towards religion and the paranormal – even occasionally new scientific findings. Despite her knowledge, ironically, she has a rather limited view of the world. Sylviana does indulge in one fantastical thing: love. She easily falls for the few people she trusts and does all that she can to protect and comfort them.
Previously a Woodvale resident in her younger years, Sylvie's recently moved back to live with Ida ,a renowned astronomer that she studies under in the Starlight Observatory. When she's not working, she's often caught up in her childhood friend Hans' antics, or watching movies with her cat Copernicus.

TRIVIA
- Sylviana's first name is in reference to 87 Sylvia, the first asteroid known to possess more than one moon (which was named after the legendary Rhea Silvia). Additionally, it's a reference to the Innamorati, two lovers within the theatre style of commedia dell'arte. Silvio/Silvia are one of the stock names for this type of character. Both of these inspirations were picked because of their connections with 'dual' concepts/people.
- On a MUCH less symbolic note, her name is also inspired by Transylvania, where Dracula is most associated with, as well as the fact that shes trans... get it? LOL?
- Her middle name, Nagel, is a reference to "What Does it Mean to Be a Bat?" by Thomas Nagel that discusses the 'Mind–Body Problem'. Sylviana's story is centered around the concept of the Mind-Body Problem.
- Sylviana being classified as a Vampire Bat is more of a formality than anything; her family ancestry is composed of all kinds of bats so that narrowing her down to just one species is just futile. However, as per her last name, the Vesper family of bats is most likely where her lineage began.
- Sylviana can survive by just drinking blood alone! Although she likes the taste, of course it would get boring eating the same thing over and over. Blood of other anthropomorphic species is the most nutritious and richest tasting, but of course most people in the modern age consider it highly taboo. Since her fangs lack enamel, they are razor sharp, so she has to be careful when eating!
- Like real world vampire bats, Sylvie can use infared radiation to locate blood vessels, and her saliva contains an anticoagulant (Draculin) to prolong bleeding of prey. Due to her large ears and hearing ability, she is also extremely sensitive to sound. Her wings don't allow her to fly, but jumping with prolonged airtime is possible.
- She's a trust fund baby. Her biological parents are extremely wealthy, but don't have much to do with her other than funding her schooling, mostly because they're busy with the family business, but they do love her. Her mother is from India and her father is African-American.
- When talking about something she's passionate about, her slight stutter disappears almost completely.
- Despite her smarts, she's prone to spending money very foolishly and doesn't consider its importance.
- She's a frequent dreamer. Sylvie often dreams of things that are inconceivable, frightening and very hard to understand. She tries not to think about it too much.
