Apollo is my secondary fursona and is supposed to be representational of my positive/ recovery/ good vibes side. He is optimistic, open-minded, and extroverted, always ready to help out with anything his friends ask of him. Generally fun to be around and loves to keep moving. Some say he's a good role model, friend, and listener, but he doesn't see it. Wants to do new things all the time and go on adventures with those close to him.
His past is littered with regrets and guilt, which manifest in the form of Apollo's Ghost Form. Despite how he tries to do good in his life now, he will never be able to shake away the ghost of his past. Because of this, he is prone to bouts of depression and allows his guilt to take complete control of him.

Apollo is technically dead, he killed himself after dealing with abuse, neglect, and his own mistakes for his entire life. With suicides, judgement is harder to pass on the dead (as they didn't live a full life or fullfil their intended purpose) and they must go to "trial" where gods (lesser gods and higher gods) of the afterlife, judgement, and reincarnation must look at the soul's life and the soul must lay out his life before them with his own words and feelings. Based on their reactions and how/ what they say during their Confession, the soul is passed on to Heaven, Hell, or Reincarnation.
Apollo expressed intense guilt, regret, anger, and sadness with his decision to kill himself. He also stated that he didn't care where his soul was sent, that life was basically Hell for him (he didn't know of the Reincarnation option), but the gods could sense his soul's potential and true feelings. He wanted to live. Not just exist. He didn't want to die, he just didn't want to feel tortured anymore. Thus, the gods took his soul, gave him a second chance, and bonded it to the dead body of a recently passed raccoon bringing him back to life in a half bat, half raccoon body.
While specific memories were mostly wiped and are fuzzy at best to allow for a clean slate + positivity unweighted by a guilty conscience, the gods cannot cut one's old life completely out. Apollo's guilt and regrets and painful memories + negativity can manifest in the form of a ghost who looks just like how he did before he was reborn. Apollo and his ghost form are one and the same, but he only reverts to ghost form when a situation that reminds him too much of something that happened in his past happens again. Is it a defense mechanism? A flaw? Who knows. The ghost acts slightly differently from Apollo, seems a lot meaner in spirit (heh), volatile, and reckless. This is how he was before his Reincarnation, not his fault, it was how he had been conditioned to behave in order to get through life carrying the emotionally burden he had.
The ghost, can do everything that a stereotypical ghost can do. If it weren't for the circumstances it's brought out under and the emotional/ physical exhaustion, Apollo would probably think it's really cool. One day he hopes to control his ghost form so it doesn't cause him so much duress and doesn't come out so sporadically.
