Darling was born to a lower-class but hard working family in Canterlot. Canterlot had begun to change after Twilight became the ruler of Equestria, creaitng less of a divide between classes. Darling showed early potential with her magic and intelligence and recieved a grant to attend Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns.
Darling was one of the 10% of ponies that manage to sucessfully hatch the dragon egg during the entrance exam. Due to the hatchling impringintg, and her mother's demands, the school board allowed Darling to be one of the few ponies allowed to adopt their dragon as a companion.
Much like Princess Twilight, Darling was very focused on her school work. She didn't have many friends and was always trying to impress her parents, terrified of losing the incredible oppertunity she was given. She developed a perfectionist complex as a result.
Her competitive attitude often got her into trouble, and she would react to bullies violently, nearly being expelled and having to take a reform course at Twilight's School of Friendship.
Darling works part-time at multiple stores in Canterlot's "hipster" district as well as a DJ for hire for party events though she is relatively new to the scene. She met her boyfriend, Sockhop, while working at the record store.
Darling and Sockhop's relationship continues to grow, but Rockabilly is not fond of her coltfriend and puts a wall between them as they try to grow closer.
