Flora was born to Milky Way and Amaranth alongside one other littermate, Wither. Unfortunately, the way they were conceived was quite scandalous, as they were the result of an emotional affair between a colony cat and an exiled tom. While Milky Way genuinely cared for his lover — having been Amaranth's kithood friend and the ultimate reason he betrayed his mate and their loveless marriage when he reunited with him — the nature of his colony was cultish and abusive, meaning both he, Amaranth, and their offspring would be in danger if his mishap were ever found out. Consequently, Milky Way made the decision to hide the accident and leave his kits in Amaranth's paws, not willing to abandon his first litter to take the chance to escape the colony with him. This left Amaranth to rear their new kits completely on his own, and while Milky Way knew that he felt betrayed, he could only hope that Amaranth would be a better father than he could ever be and keep their kits safe as loners with him.

Despite the unusual circumstances of their birth, Amaranth was fierce in his determination to be the best dad that he could possibly be to his kits, and luckily didn't have to raise them alone as he had his older daughter Lillian to support him, as well as his two companions Heidi and Dapple to assist her. While left unnamed for a few days as Amaranth had to wrap his head around being an unexpected father first, he eventually named Flora after Milky Way's delight for plants — a remnant of his love for his former partner. He refused to ever speak of him, however, and evaded all of Flora's questions about him when she grew older and started to wonder who her other parent was. He was also overprotective and irresponsible as a parent, often leaving Flora confused when he allowed Wither to run wild while simultaneously snapping at stangers for doing something as simple as trying to say hello to his precious offspring. It didn't help that both Amaranth and Lillian were mean-spirited and aggressive as cats, and that Heidi and Dapple were somewhat enablers of their chaos, leaving Flora to witness their questionable behavior nearly everyday. Despite this, Flora's life growing up was relatively decent, and she was shaped into a much more proper cat thanks to Dapple's desperate attempts to teach her how to be civilized throughout everyone's crazy antics. She never got involved in those shenanigans, especially of her rapscallion brother's, but appreciated the care her family gave her nonetheless...though the constant confusion and rubbing off on her father and sister did turn Flora into a serious, kinda ill-tempered adult who tended to slip up in her manners, often being hypocritical in who she criticized and considered "unsophisticated."
