Mateo is overall a very kind hearted person. He generally talks to everyone with as much respect as he can, being quite formal in even normal discussion with people who are on the same level as him. He's not the type to be rude on purpose- more like his words can get misconstrued with the way he says them. He doesn't exactly realize what he's saying all the time and how it can be portrayed, but acts very, very apologetic when it's pointed out to him. Mateo isn't the most confident person out there and that's obvious with the way he carries himself, but he's certainly headstrong and determined when it comes to his goals and idea of justice. He's particularly obedient to those that he thinks have his best self-interest in mind.
Mateo always seems like he's in a bit of a rush, like he's worried something is going to happen. No matter how caring to people he is, he's never been the greatest person. His sense of morality is skewed, and his justice is just something that makes him do less than savory things for the bigger picture. He doesn't mind what he has to do or who he has to use as long as he can get what he feels that he needs. Even so, Mateo tries to do this in the most 'good' way he can, refusing to hurt others.. at least physically. He can leave that to the other people in the casino, it really isn't his thing.. especially with how awful his luck is.

- EMINENCE
- "MASQUERADE" — Mateo's eminence is one of deception, a lie. He's able to lie to someone and have them completely believe him, no matter how outlandish the lie is. As long as he phrases his lies like a statement they're capable of being believed.
- Mateo's ability only works for so long. He can lie multiple times in a row, but has little to no way of telling when he's lied too much and it won't work anymore. It's incredibly detreimental to him especially in high-stress scenarios that require him to be dishonest and believable.
- He tends to keep an eye on how long his eminence will work for with a stopwatch he always has on him. After 30 minutes or so, his eminence wears off on people. Typically he's already gone by time someone's realized his con. A sort of.. karma tends to build up when he uses his eminence. The more he uses it, the more karma he gains, and the worse his luck gets. When he staves off using his eminence too much though, his luck becomes noticably better. It's not something that Mateo's sure is apart of his eminence exactly, but he does believe in the forces of good and bad karma.
- Wherever he goes, a faint ticking sound follows him. That's how a lot of people can tell he's coming.
- Mateo's birthday is Febuary 5th. He's an aquarius.
- Since his luck is so commonly bad, it tends to rub off on people and not only get himself, but others hurt as well. Mateo isn't the easiest to stick around, frankly. The constant looming fear of an accident happening is always surrounding him.
- He cares about his cousin Axel's future more than anything. It's the reason he does so much. Mateo doesn't mind being the bad guy, just so long as his cousin will be redeemed in the end. Mateo holds no ill-will for the damage Axel's done to him, and really just wants to be close to him again.
- He often gets splitting migraines as a long-term effect of, well, being hit in the eye and head with a hammer. The pain isn't something he can get used to, no matter how much he tries.

- Mateo has a smoking habit, but gets embarrassed when people see him do it. He tends to find dark little corners for some smoking privacy.
- His eye is completely missing under the bandages. He doesn't have a glass eye either, so it's just an empty socket when the bandages aren't on. He doesn't like showing people that.
- He has very dark eyebags under his eyes.
- Even though he seems rather broad becauase of his clothing choices, he's surprisingly skinny if you get your arms around him.
- Mateo is somewhat based off the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.
