Kaija's Comments

It feels like I hit the jackpot to come across Kaija. I'm interested in Russian folklore and fairy tales but admittedly, being a foreigner who mostly comb through internet to learn about them from English language sources put me in a lot of disadvantages. Therefore, what I know are mostly the 'popular' ones like Three Bogatyrs, Koshchey, Svyatogor - hardly something that is originated from the Urals area and beyond eastward.

Her backstory is truly fascinating...it's sad that she didn't get to grow up with her parents because of this role. Although I feel that this divine duty probably grants her some freedom she may not ever have as an ordinary human? You did a splendid job to mix the lore with modern history and turned her backstory into something rather thought-provoking. As someone who learn Russian history as a hobby, I can certainly understand the decline of her divine role to the local people's eyes (after all, many, many traditions and beliefs of indigenous people in remote areas were lost during the USSR era).

Also, I love how she's partial Khanty and Mansi. It's always exciting to see character of the somewhat 'less visible' ethnic backgrounds of Russia! Your design of her hoodie is gorgeous as well, great job! And thank you for introducing me to the lore of The Mistress of the Copper Mountain, which I got to check out from the wikipedia link you kindly provided on her profile. <3
