Appearance

- Ryan's face is chiseled; it's hard to ignore his strong jaw and cheekbones.
- He has a fair amount of dark moles/beauty marks all along his face and body. The most prominent being the large one below his left eye.
- He is built like a truck-- wide shoulders and legs, but very firm.
full of muscle that isn't easily seen... He can probably lift more than you, but you can't see that defined/sculpted muscle even when he flexes.
- His expression always seems unnerved/uncomfortable, but his eyebrows naturally upturn.
...But not to be mistaken, he is on the nervous side of disposition, so he often is nervously chuckling, looking as anxious as he feels. lol
- Keeps his hair shaved, but he's usually wearing a wide-brimmed hat so it's not like you can see it all that often. (At least this way he can stay cool when working hard, he thinks)
- Clothes are usually dirty. Has several layers.

Personality

- Often roaming along Texas alone, Ryan loses sight of social mores and general understanding of the country's political climate all-too easily. If he isn't paid to consider or put his hands to something, he tries not to bother! But more often than not this distrusting and misunderstood attitude ruins what could be good opportunities for him.
- Ryan is often considered a man with his head in the clouds, though this isn't necessarily the case. He's an anxious man who just happens to keep to himself.
Has the tendency to stay quiet. The only things he has experience with and feels confident in is farm work, but he doesn't come off as rude or crass beyond his means. He just doesn't want to be berated any more than he already is for his appearance alone.
- While he isn't easy to trust, he is easy to please. RJ has a lot of roadblocks to uncover something softer and more loving in his heart toward others, if he thinks he can trust someone, he can be very loyal, giving, and affectionate.
This is extremely rare and hardly ever happens. But it is there in his personage.
- 9 times out of 10 will calculate relationships for their usefulness, if only because he ends up being rejected or berated more often than not.
- Though he often doesn't speak unless spoken to, he laughs a lot, even if he's not amused (can be considered a nervous tic but it's honestly more of a habit than compulsion).
He doesn't seem to hit the mark of understanding others in general, either, but also never seems to ask questions. As such, he is considered very stilted and almost unnatural in the way he interacts.

BIO

Being a bastard child between a white man and a Japanese woman meant that all of his life was one shit storm after another-- if it's not himself that he doubts and questions endlessly, its strangers and friends alike who doubt and question him.
R.J. was born and raised within a missionary orphanage on the skirts of Pennsylvania. Nothing about him stood out to his guardians beyond his race; he was very tight-lipped and yet often bullied as the adults 'looked the other way' time and time again.

Working as a cowboy was the only option that Ryan had to keep to himself and keep out of trouble. Most employers don't question their hires, and while he doesn't fit in well with the other hands, he imagines they all have it hard for not being white men, so he builds up solidarity in his own head for all the cowboys he's met along his travels. Settling and finding a wife had been an immensely difficult task as it was in Ryan's specific case, but being a vaquero only made it harder.

There is only one moment that could either have been the worst or best mistake of his life, and it goes like this: his one-sided solidarity lands him into a quiet but steady rapport with an old ranch-hand named Sadie that he started working with in the spring of 1869. Months down the line, Sadie finally mutters to him explanations of his work: a locale within the nearest town and a time deep in the night. It was vague and unlike Sadie's normal stilted conversation. What's a curious guy to do? RJ normally wouldn't find himself in that place at that time, but he does it anyway.
Next thing he knows, he's thieving with Sadie every other month and pockets 20% of the profits. Beyond it being illegal, it's asinine, but they haven't got caught thus far. And that was only the beginning, as now Sadie managed to round up a few more gauchos who are willing to do more than pilfer, but straight up rob an establishment...

He refuses to hurt others as they've hurt him, physically or verbally. This has never done anything good for him beyond when he works with Sadie (or so the other bandits say). All he wants is the extra money, as being a cowboy is harsh and pays horribly. He has yet to physically hurt another person even when threatening them for their money and items, and he fervently hopes it stays that way.

Skipping most of his life after thieving (eventually I'll get around to it lol)...
He died on October 20th, 1937 in Hawaii.
He does get to live a good life, and quite comfortable as old age sets in, his children taking such good care of him... Though to his family, they'd be quick to say Grandpa was so secretive and grouchy always!
Despite moving on from his misgivings on his own identity and marrying a Japanese woman, even learning the language from her and giving birth to beautiful children (six to be exact!), there will always be a part of him that doesn't see himself as worthy, a half- perhaps even a quarter- missing its whole, or its completeness... Family doesn't mean the same thing to him as he thought it would, like it meant to him when he worked with Sadie and the gang.

Family
No connection with parents, no known siblings (though he does have some siblings on his father's side he doesn't know about). RJ considers his family to be nonexistent, and never seeks them out.

Trivia

  • He enjoys the moments of relaxation after a hard day's work, and when he is in between jobs, he whittles at wood and reads.. though he's not much good at either hobby.
  • He has a soft spot for penniless, orphaned, rowdy children and forgets that even kids can be the catalyst of drama or trouble.
  • He prefers the company of animals over humans. (Especially cats, they're so cute!!!!!)
  • His middle name is Jesse.
Ryan's mother was completely out of the picture as soon as she gave birth-- American missionaries named him and kept him for adoption.
  • And though he lived all of his childhood and adolescence with the church, he doesn't find much in religion... Though that's probably due to bitterness at his guardians.
  • Has the stamina and work-ethic of a goddamn ox. He constantly 'wows' others with his capacity to forge on. Just another reason for the other work-hands across the country to hate his guts
  • Ryan used to be a modern/fantasy OC but I didn't connect so well to him after the first few months of creating him... I'm sorry, Ryan! He went from having a steady boyfriend and an internet connection to being despised and using an outhouse, best case scenario! LOL
Because of his old origins, obviously his name doesn't close to fit in the 1700/1800s, but I can't part with it for some reason, so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
