Background

— Sam was born and raised in an idyllic country town and doesn't mind the quiet. Unlike his father, Nick, he's a true introvert. He bottles up all his personal problems and would rather be silent than engage in small talk.

— Despite being reserved, he's fairly popular in high school. His performance on the baseball team, laid-back attitude, and handsome looks seem to be working for him. But it's notoriously difficult to get to know him beyond the surface. He feels that Freddy is his only true friend.

— He often finds himself feeling disconnected to others and, frankly, a little confused. He doesn't know what to make of his dad's new life as a divorcee, how to express his feelings (especially to girls), and has no idea of what he'll do after high school.

Personality

— Thanks to the knowledge imparted by his father, he takes good care of his 1999 Honda Civic. He uses it to deliver pizza and visit his father on the weekends.

— He's a skilled baseball player who throws fast pitches and loves to steal bases. He won't admit it, but he likes to show off when he sees pretty girls in the bleachers.

— Not opposed to drinking alcohol or going to parties, but he generally tries to steer away from trouble.

— While he finds Diane bookish and dorky, he also feels that she's easy to talk to.

— It's the most awkward thing ever when other people flirt with his dad in front of him. If you do so, he will stare angrily at you until you're out of sight.
