Personality

-He has a sour attitude in general but is a total fake ass suck up with ANYONE who looks like they might have coin to spare.
-Sometimes he lets down his facade and snaps at others.
usually a few drinks keep this desire at bay
-Incredibly vain but it comes from a place of fear of looking as trashy as all the aristocrats used to say of him as a youth (in kinder/more passive aggressive tones of course)
-Is of the learning that one is seen and never heard, and as such, he will rarely respond to unless implicitly asked or if he's snapping/impatient lol.
he's not cold per se, he just thinks it's good manners. And he does want to make a good impression at all times, in case someone important/rich may be watching...
-Has intentions to do his best in whatever he does/wants to be considered skilled in anything tasked of him, including social standings and general life situations
-Probably has major depression but ~the era says otherwise

BIO

Your typical late late late Regency era poorsman, born and raised in a rookery and thinks the worst of it despite being unable to totally escape it.

Will has seven other siblings-- one being a twin sister-- making him total it to eight, and was one of the older siblings.
As soon as others would have him, he began to work at a very young age, hoping to avoid his family entirely. This was a good indication of the type of man he'd grow up into, trying to avoid responsibility that he feels was unjustly thrust upon him.

He does all the odd-jobs he can take on, most notably helping along the outskirts of town with hard labor, renowned for a steady and strong enough arm despite his pretty looks, but if he's feeling up to it in what little free time he has, he takes on hustling... And that is where the large amounts of money are, and as time goes on, he becomes more and more tempted to keep along the lines of sin and illegalities.

So... About his late adulthood, mid-age/late life...

He eventually does marry the rich woman of youthful pipe-dreams, but it isn't a fun or fanciful affair, and the woman herself is... Well, beside old (for the time)... Quite callous and almost cruel, on account of going hot and cold with her affections due to the harsh realities of women's places in this era, versus her personal breakouts against society.
She often threatens violence and trauma against Will-- in public and in privacy, knowing that he'll never turn against her as long as they're married and she makes all the money.

They quickly have four children upon marriage... One set of twins- appropriately named after Will and his sister Lucy, of course- and two younger ones.
Unfortunately the youngest dies to pneumonia in infancy, and in turn causes grief so strong the wife dies of heartbreak.

Papa Will carries on but isn't exactly the same, and he does awful with his own children, often reverting back to the way he was as a lad; afraid of most things enough to turn tail and run from his problems than face them head-on, or with honesty.

With having acquired all of his late wife's money, the family surprisingly doesn't burn through it fast, but as Will grows older and older, he realizes his children aren't nearly as sophisticated as their mother was, and in turn, sees the cycle come back to where his grandchildren (having grandchildren only by his third child, oddly enough) are just as impoverished as he was when he was young. It wasn't to last forever, it seems.

And it goes without saying, but he does go back to turning tricks and trying to squeeze people's pockets. It's nowhere near as easy and money is awfully hard to come by near his end.

He eventually moves in with Will and Lucy Jr., who, are damn-near inseparable compared to him and his own sister, and put one another above all else, showing that they really didn't need money to find happiness.
He lashes out at them often in jealousy and fear, not sounding much different than his late wife, unable to comprehend how little he fits in anymore or to see how ineffective he was at being an important figure in their lives.

Around 60-ish he's considered senile due to old age, but he in fact has dementia, and if you think i'm torturing this poor lad you might be entirely right but also I LOVE HIM SO DON'T WORRY IT WON'T BE ABOUT HIS OLD AGE EVER G'BLESS AND GOODNIGHT

Relationships

Notable relationships in the links tab

Eventually I'll write out individual links of all the people in Will's life...
But for now I'm relegating it to the tabs! As it is, there is information on them!

Trivia

  • His mother named him Percival William in the delirious hopes of coming off lovelier than the status their family has.
Basically, everyone but mum sees how try-hard this venture turned out. His sister, ironically named just as ridiculously with Lucretia Magdalen, calls him Purse and his acquaintances call him Percy, but he'd honestly prefer to be called by his second name, William, or Will (nobody ever seems to do this of course).
  • Will signs everything 'PS' despite his second name/liking his second name a lot more.
  • And in relation to the previous point, he didn't always know how to read and write.
He definitely worked hard to come off as refined as he does when given the chance.
  • His idea of paradise would probably be living carelessly under the hand of some old rich gent that's on death's door, and has bequeathed everything to him. He would spend every day at the creek (surely there will be a creek on this old gent's massive property, and gardens too, but he's mostly interested in the creek), and he'd be allowed to be under-dressed, and free, legs in the creek keeping cool... Peace and quiet. Serenity. He's felt he's never gotten that.
