Summary

bop_by_painted_bees-dcqginc.jpg

"In the desert, there is a city half-drowned in still, turquoise waters. No one dares venture into it, especially not while the sun is high. Take your beast to the outskirts and allow it to drink. If you build a camp there, you must leave before sunrise. Linger too long and you, like many before you, may disappear forever.

This drowned city, in all its stark white beauty, is a cursed place. A deity arose here a century ago and, out of rage against one man's insolence, flooded the land. In that swift instance, the city's inhabitants all perished beneath the glistening surface. The entire city was submerged.

Time has drained much of that water, and the city stands now as it had before. But the air is still, the streets are quiet...the water's surface is as smooth as unbroken panes of glass.

The Deity still lurks here.

His resentment simmers.

Do not enter the drowned city.

Do not impose upon him with your presence, or his punishment will be swift. You, and all memories of you, will vanish like sands in the wind."

Ishavan is an amorphously misshapen creature who was denied a solid form when a statue sculpted in his likeness was stolen and smelted down into various small pieces. When he arrived into the mortal realm, there was no likeness for him to imprint upon. As such, he is a constantly shifting, changing, rearranging mass of flesh, fur, feather, and scales. He can emulate the likeness of things around him, seemingly preferring sculptures and statues as his source of 'inspiration'. Any recognizable form he does assume is never permanent, and will eventually melt away into his usual strangeness before long. His magic is as limited as his ability to maintain his shape.

Trivia

  • Though Van has no unique, solid form of his own, he does have a handful of favorite 'likenesses' that he prefers to wear. One of which is a 'human' shape he 'borrowed' from a monument built in honor of some long-dead dignitaries.
  • Upon forming a particular shape or likeness, he cannot hold onto it for long. He likens it to the feeling of holding water in your hands. You can try to make as perfect and solid a vessel as you possibley can manage, but no matter what, the water always finds a way to drain slowly through the cracks between your fingers.
  • The more magic he uses, the faster his desired 'form' will melt away. His flesh pales as the first sign that his facade is cracking
  • He loves all food, but especially delights in gelatinous treats such as panna cotta.
  • He spent several decades languishing alone in the Drowned City, with no way of being able to leave. Nowdays, travels with Maika as his reluctant 'servant' after tethering himself an old artifact in her possession designed specifically for that purpose: a locket she had stolen just prior to meeting him. It was all very convenient.
