BACKSTORY

Sam unlocked his power after an attempted mugging when he was 13, and quickly decided that he wanted to use it to do good. He became the vigilante hero 'Zippy', and the only person who knew about his secret life was the girl he was tutoring at school, Mia. Things went well for him, until he was eventually caught by the police, forcible registered, and given an official warning- if he was caught 'misusing' his power again, he would have legal action taken against him.

He hasn't tried the superhero shtick since, and has instead taken to focussing on his studies.

PERSONALITY

Sam prefers to keep himself to himself, and tends to come across as rather unassuming, but he isn't afraid to stand up for himself when he needs to. Everyone in his school is aware about his gender, sexuality, and status as a 'Special', and he's had to develop quite a back-bone to deal with the fall-out from that.

He has a strong sense of justice, and isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in- whether that's telling a schoolyard bully to go shove themselves, or stopping a robbing. He also has a natural distrust of authority figures, and prefers to put his faith in himself and the small circle of people he knows to be trustworthy.

CONNECTIONS

Claire East: One of Sam's teachers at school. Initially he was suspicious of her, believing that she'd been tasked with keeping an eye on him as a fellow 'Special', but after seeing her insistence on not reporting unregistered 'Special's, his suspicion faded. Now, she's probably the only authority figures he feels any degree of respect towards.

Mia Lewis: A girl a couple of years below Sam, who he used to tutor. Same trusts Mia, and is probably the only person in the school who does.

Chris Cross: A boy in the same year as Sam. Sam enjoys Chris's company, and sincerely wishes he could beat up his family.

Niamh O'Neill: A girl a few years below Sam. Sam finds Niamh entertaining.

Mary Matthews: A girl a few years below Sam. Sam feels somewhat protective of Mary, as the only other publicly recognised student 'Special' in the school.

The Collector: A super-villain. Sam hates him.
