Calypso is a "blessed" white man that uses he/him pronouns. A musician by trade, Calypso is enrolled in university thanks to a handful of scholarships and grants. When he's not studying or producing his next niche EP, he attempts to pull together something of a social life, with limited success. His obsession with his own physical appearance, rooted in his family's lack of money growing up, led him to spring towards what he deems high fashion and art at the expense of human interaction. He funds his pricey tastes in coffee and fashion with a part-time job at the campus's coffee shop. Most of his wardrobe is made up of women's clothing salvaged from local thrift shops and bargain stores, a fact that he does his best to obfuscate. His social persona is also a farce; he draws people close to him only to push them away, no doubt contributing to his woes of being "lonely" and "misunderstood."

Unfortunately, having a "blessing" that makes him prone to passing diseases and other harmful pathogens around through direct physical contact does not help Calypso's social life at all. He tends to hide this aspect of himself, as well as his unique ability to manipulate and shape water from his surroundings. Though he prides himself on standing out from the crowd, he doesn't want this "blessing" to turn him into a complete social outcast. He rightly fears the effects of ostracization on his already critically low self-esteem.

This does nothing to hinder Calypso's ever-present nosiness. His recent fixation, another girl on campus with a "blessing" that appears to fatefully counter his own, is preparing to embark on a trip to follow her bestie to a remote location. Desperate for some form of human contact, and out of his own morbid curiosity, he commits to a slapdash plan to tail them. After spending the rest of his meager funds on transport, he ends up at a cozy little village tucked on the outskirts of society. He seems to be a bit late, and misses his "friends" entirely. Noting that since he's here, having spent good money to get to the middle of nowhere as is, he might as well check it out. After paying for what is probably the most miserable, sad cup of coffee he's ever had, a villager just making chitchat across the room lets slip that a couple of girls had wandered into the nearby fog-blanketed forest not too long ago. Filled with renewed energy in spite of an empty stomach, he throws caution to the wind and makes for the forest, completely oblivious to what could possibly have drawn them to it in the first place.
