PERSONALITY
Gives off an easy confidence that make him read as aloof and relaxed. Seems pretty open and animated. His outgoing and lively personality aided (or not) by the fact he's a cocky shit who loves banter makes him one of those guys you either love or hate.

Beck's emotions are intense. He seems to broadcast them loudly without trying.
Beck's mastered deadpan sarcasm and has a dry, cynical sense of humor. Sometimes it's hard to tell if he's being sarcastic or serious. Sometimes it come off as snarky backtalk.
Very open-minded, likes to try stuff and explore ideas, saying it's part of living.
Enthusiastic and good at keeping morale up. Some types may find this draining or outright annoying.
Worry wart who stresses easily; often concerned for others in his squadron (Mom FriendTM).
When overwhelmed/hurt he becomes defensive and withdraws, becoming uncharacteristically quiet. May go as far as slipping into cynical and bitter territory depending on what's gotten to him.
Beck’s always been a very active guy with a tendency to fidget or pace when anxious/agitated but it’s much more prominent during the war, it’s mostly nerves that make him so antsy.

Generally easy to approach and up for a chat. Likes to discuss ideas/theories be it film theories or recent technological developments and with others. Can be a bit who's this little shit? if not introduced to newbs/squadron transfers, especially if their eyes go straight to the burn scars on his forearms.
PREFERANCES
  • LIKES physical sport It helps him burn off that nervous energy that leaves him feeling restless. Enjoys cricket and jogging the most.
  • DISLIKES THE DISPERSAL HUT PHONE Because hearing it usually means he's seconds away from having to fight for his life.
  • HOBBY IS DINGHY/YACHT SAILING Beck finds sailing soothing. He's a competent sailor and has won dinghy races.
HABITS
  • PICKY EATER Learnt to cook/insists on cooking because of it. Decent cook who quickly learns to make dishes he's never made before.
  • Sass is a defense mechanism When Beck's feeling defensive, raw, exposed and handling emotions he doesn't know how to deal with.
  • slow to take in new info Too many details at once can leave Beck feeling overwhelmed. He ideally needs time to process stuff.
TRIVIA
  • With his affinity for boating, it was assumed Beck would beeline for the Navy, he surprised everyone and joined the RAF instead.
  • Beck was shot down over the channel by a damaged 109 early May 1940 and successfully bailed with minor burns to his forearms. He was picked up by a passing frigate ferrying men from Dunkirk beach back to Britain and was able to return to his squadron a week after his expected arrival (though he seriously considers slipping away and not returning). He wears a Goldfish Club tie with the club's logo printed over it.
  • Post war he considers mustering out ASAP but ends up staying on to become a test pilot because he does enjoy the flying. Kinda. When he's not being shot at. There’s something a tiny bit novel about it being somewhere humans shouldn’t be able to go.
  • Gets better with food during his time with the RAF (though with great reluctance). Beck finds because he's used to having to eat whatever's put in front of him, he's more willing to try stuff. He also finds that he appreciates food more than he used to when on leave because everything seems to have more flavor compared to the bland plates of sadness offered in his station's mess.
  • At Hendrix's suggestion, Beck learnt to play chess to help distract his mind for something do rather than just restlessly fidget and work himself up when waiting on dispersal. He's not very good at it but the distraction helps sometimes. Sometimes he's too nervous to really put his mind to it.
  • Beck knows his inability to be still annoys people but he can’t help he’s wound up so tight with restless energy. Some part of Beck is always moving, it’s like an itch he can’t scratch. Even if it’s something simple like fiddling with a pen or tapping out a rhythm with his fingers. It makes sleeping difficult sometimes; as soon as he drifts off to sleep his muscles feel the need to twitch and keep him awake.
  • Has a flat on the 4th floor of a shabby tower block in Croyden, London. Post war he shares the lease with Hendrix.
  • The tone of the dispersal hut phone sets Beck on edge so much so he's sworn he's never getting one put in his flat.
