Alkaline

Nervous and unsure of himself, Alkaline hails from a particularly chaotic cycle, and was thrust into a significant position of power during the waves of unrest and difficulties. Though inexperienced, naive, and too empathetic for his own good, he managed to tie the fringes of government back together and settle the raging regional leaders - narrowly avoiding an all-out war that would have shredded the world as they knew it into ribbons.

Of course, less than a week after the dust settled, their cycle was upended and destroyed, shattered into a fine star-grit that Vallha and the other gods used to create a new world. Alkaline watched, in a mixture of forlorn regret, brimming resentment, and deep wistful homesickness. Part of him knows it wasn't all for nothing - the avoidance of an all-out war saved his countrymen from trauma and death - but it's hard to avoid the truth in that none of them exist any longer, churned into nothingness. Though he disagrees with Evenne ideologically and hates the world's cycles, he's too much of a coward to either leave (and die) or rise up against the literal gods of the world and claim that he knows better than them.
