Yukiko is the only child of a wealthy couple, and has always been sheltered and pampered her whole life; this however, instead of making her spoiled and confident, made her incredibly scared of the world outside and very insecure of herself. The only aquitenances she had were of people met during high class parties, but she was always too timid to really have contact with anyone.
The only exceptions to this were Matthew, a kid her age she often met at parties (they then took their friendship outside parties and went out on town together, on vacation together, etc.) and Youta, a rebellious kid older than her that often sneaked in the wealthy parties and meetings.

When she was of age to finally become a Pokemon trainer like most kids her age she was very curious and eager to try that life, but at the same time was too scared to go ahead with it. She eventually even saw Matt and Youta taking on the trainer life, but it was thanks to her older cousin Fubuki that she finally made her mind up and started journeying.
Matt was already an year ahead of her so she didn't want to disturb him for companionship or advice, and so initially it was Fubuki who kept her company the first months. Once he saw she was fit to continue on her own, he tried to motivate her by acting as her "rival" figure and kept checking on her progress every now and then.
Youta, on the other hand, wasn't aiming to get some real progress or get badges like Matt, so he went back to catch up with Yukiko and often met up with her, claiming to be her only true rival and childhood friend.

[Through Matt she also met Argento and all of the Mt. Silver's gang, not really making friendships with anyone but still enjoying their company. She especially has a troubled relationship with Silver though (Silver doesn't really like her) and over time due to similar careers/interests she'll be a friend of Aurelie.]

Yukiko made slow progress, and after an year went by she still needed her last badge; during the Platinum events with the havoc caused by Cyrus and Giratina she didn't do much because she thought she wouldn't be able to really do anything, but worried for Platina and Cynthia so followed them in Distortion World.
As she was the first to find Giratina, she tried to be brave for once and defeat or catch the Legendary, but she wasn't strong enough. She threw a Master Ball at the Pokemon and thought everything was over but then started seeing Giratina's behaviour, how it would often break free from the Pokeball, disobey orders, look angrily at her...this lasted barely a couple days, and then Yukiko suddenly lost consciousness for what felt like days.

*When she woke up, she was at home, in her bedroom. Her Pokemon were nowhere to be seen. When she talked to anyone, including Matt, it was as things were always the same: they still had the same relationships, remembered the facts of the year...the only different thing was that it was as she had never been a Pokemon trainer. No Pokemon, no trainer license, no one had memories about it, nothing.
After days of despair, she could only guess Giratina had somehow messed up with her dimension, and maybe she was in an alternate world where she wasn't a trainer or something. It was the only explanation she could give herself. So she slowly started anew, trying to rebuild her same Pokemon team, but swore to herself to never come across a Legendary again.*

After that, Yukiko seemed to drag her journey and made very very slow progress, years went by and she still didn't have all of the badges. She just wasn't motivated.
She was also of age of starting to get a job, and was worried for her future, she just didn't feel suited to anything. She had once thought she could have gotten a Pokemon-related career, like trainer, contestant or watcher, but she was always average if not sub-par in all of those things. Her parents wanted for her to take on the family business or not work at all wealthy as she was, but it wasn't what she wanted. The girl spent months pretty discouraged and often talked about it to Matt, who was already well starting his business career; it was during one of their chats, while Matt was getting ready for a Pokemon contest, that Yukiko took care of preparing his Pokemon and showed her talent. She wasn't good as a contestant 'cause she was quite bad at dancing and average at acting/battling, but she had a talent for making Pokemon look beautiful and at their best.

As of now, Yukiko has finally found her career and owns a little SPA for Pokemon where she takes care of a variety of services like grooming, dressing up, make-up, hairstyling, poffin preparation, massages and the like, and is quite successful at it, being known as the go-to person even to elite contestants. She often travels with her Pokemon to bring her services to various towns or just for journeying's sake, and is wondering if she should finally open up to try and date a certain childhood friend....

*as usual and said above, my main Pokemon OCs are based off my in-game characters and their gameplays so I try and include the in-game happenings to their stories; in this case, my Platinum game resetted a little while having captured Giratina, so this is what I came up with xD
