I can't rest unless I finish this report, I promise I'll rest afterwards.
Shaun is a calm and level headed person. He's always calculating and thinks through everything carefully before he makes any decision, no matter how trivial it is. Especially so if it concerns someone else. He always bases his actions on logic, yet he isn't a total realist. Rather, he's more of an idealistic and perfectionist person. Although not to a worrying level.
He cares deeply to those he holds dear. He would do anything he could to help his family and friends away from troubles and sadness. All while hiding his own problems as he feels he's already burdening everyone with his weak body condition that could faint anytime. To others, any personal matters about him is completely mysterious albeit being an approachable and friendly person.
As a leader he's capable, hardworking, and cautious. He's trusted by almost everyone due to his nature. His beauty and gentle demeanor also easily made strangers have a good impression toward him. Which is also the source of his weakness as he's too kind hearted to take any harsh disciplinary action nor punishment, even if they deserve it. He tends to take responsibility for his loyal subordinates’ mistakes as well.
If you do what the people you despise did, then you are no different than them.
Similar to any other surviving Void around his age or older, Shaun lost his entire family during the tragedy. Although unlike everyone else, it didn't really affect him in any way. It was because his relationship with his family wasn't close. Losing them felt like losing a stranger, it was unfortunate but that was it, nothing deeper than that emotion.
Shaun was born normally like any other children. Yet, as he grew older strange symptoms never seen happened to a Void kept on occured to his body. Voids were supposed to be strong and immune to any human sickness. But that wasn't the case with Shaun. He had a weak body that could easily faint. He could get a fever just as normal human children could.
He wasn't particularly shunned nor hated but for a Void to have such a weak body was something unreliable. Useless. He wasn't able to train any harder, any longer. He wasn't able to join physical activities others did. He wasn't rejected, but he wasn't accepted as well. It made the emotional gap between him and everyone grow further. And he continued to live that way until the empire perished.
He managed to survive because he met a group of rescuers from another noble clan. Once they settled in a new region, Carnelian offered him to live together with the other seven clans survivors. Shaun was hesitant as he explained it wasn't a good idea to have him around. Yet, the man insisted, he accepted him the way he is. Someone's worth isn't determined by physical abilities alone, he said.
That single sentence Carnelian told him was what changed Shaun's life. He felt like he owed the man his life and decided to help him all he could. He was grateful, he first experienced what warmth was only after living with the Ignacz family. Although it was difficult to make him open about himself. He had been determined and making efforts to help them any way he could as gratitude. And perhaps, a form of affection.
