Diana, Priestess of the Moon

Diana is the first immortal priestess of Solitude, bearing the mark of the goddess' blessing in the form of a crescent moon. Living in Solitude's monastery, she does garden work and other odd jobs around. She's kind and caring, but never stops missing the family she lost. While she cannot have children anymore, she attempts to compensate her wish to be a mother and the guilt for the loss of her son by taking in and raising orphans.

While she's not unhappy, the pain of the loss of her husband and child will never fully fade and she often visits their graves. She studies medicine in her free time, making use of the monastery's great library. While she loves to cook, she's not had much success with it yet. The children always pretend to like it, though.

Extra Info

(Author's note - mentions of death and suicide in backstory. If you do not wish to think of that, read no further.)

Mother nor child survived childbirth. It was a tragic sight, really. A young man with nothing left to live for, broken down crying next to two lifeless bodies. A beautiful woman, covered in blood, a deformed baby wrapped in her cold arms. A goddess watched as his shaking hands tied a knot, pity swelled in her heart. Softly, she pushed it out of his hand. "Have you, truly, nothing left to live for?" The goddess' soft voice echoed through the shack.

"...No."

His voice was raw, the whisper was barely audible. "Please, not me. Save her, instead." His hands continued, determined.
"A life for a life?" She whispered back. He only nodded. She sighed sadly. "If that is what you wish... Very well."
The goddess could not leave him there, dangling from the ceiling. She buried him with his son, and took the young mother to a place with less suffering.

Diana is a European name meaning "heavenly, divine". It is also the name of the Roman goddess of the moon, as well as childbirth and women (among other things), which is why I chose it for this character.

"Please, make yourself at home! Would you like some tea?"
