INTRODUCTION

Your name is R’JHERA and you are doing nothing to destroy the typical THIEVING KHAJIIT STEREOTYPE. You’ve got QUICK FINGERS and are particularly talented in PICKPOCKETING, LOCKPICKING, and general ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES that involve STEALING. You also know your way around a dagger fairly well, as YOU ARE AN ASSASSIN in your spare time. Just a little side hobby for when you’re bored, really. When you're not putting yourself in danger by either THIEVING or MURDERING, you do ENJOY a GOOD BOOK or you simply harass your guildmates with your pointless banter.

Despite being a SNEAKY LAD, your FAVOURITE WEAPONS are WARHAMMERS. You just think they’re neat. Everyone in your guild thinks you’re nuts for using them, but they make you look BADASS so you ignore them in favour for LOOKING COOL.

You’re a SILENT BUT DEADLY fellow. You tend NOT to SPEAK UNLESS SPOKEN TO and have a high respect for your bosses/those you’re employed under. You PLAY BY THE RULES when eyes are on you to keep up a GOOD REPUTATION. You network with all sorts from villagers to orc strongholds so that your businesses get more coin and you have allies for when your occasional COCKINESS gets you into TROUBLE. You try to tone it down but BEING A DICK IS IN YOUR NATURE, no matter how responsible you try to act. You were at the HELGEN EXCECUTION for your idiocy, after all…

Personality

R’jhera is incredibly bold, confident, and discreet in his activities. He isn’t particularly afraid of anything and will take any job or contract despite how dangerous it is. Whether or not this truly is confidence or just plain stupidity isn’t very clear, but he does have a tendency to let his cocky, arrogant nature show at times. He’s got both book smarts and street smarts, and he’d have to or he’d likely end up dead due to the nature of his work. He’s very well read, and enjoys reading in his spare time.

He can be very difficult to get to know as he is quite expressionless outside of the Guild, and never makes conversation as he’s not the talkative type. He won’t speak unless spoken to typically and prefers to not have any casual relationships with anyone that isn’t his work mates. All his outside relationships are strictly either strategic or for business, so he’s very selective with those he allows himself to get close to. He's a silent but deadly guy who keeps quiet around those he deems authoritative figures and takes his jobs seriously. He's work before relationships and won't hesitate to stab a friend in the back in the name of business. His guildmates know this all too well as they seem to have the same attitude anyway. Despite his silence, around his guildmates he tends to be cocky, boastful, and generally quite chatty. R'jhera's behaviour changes once again when he's dealing with clients. He tries to sweet talk and persuade them into doing what he wants, but when they refuse he's quick to threaten them. He has a very 'I'll be nice to begin with, but really you don't have a choice' way of getting his work done. He takes his work very seriously and will do everything exactly as he’s told, when he’s told to do it. He doesn’t believe in failure being an option and likes to stick to strict deadlines.

In regards to his guildmates, he’s not afraid to talk shit and get hit, so he occasionally causes conflict and fights that are quick to resolve if a little coin is offered up to bribe back their friendship. He’s a bit of a hoarder, and keeps a lot of stuff he finds crammed into a few chests around his bed. He’s also a cheeky piece of work who’ll often try to eavesdrop on everyone’s petty drama, but despite all this he is very loyal and wouldn’t hesitate to bring a hammer down on anyone who messes with his guildmates.

He doesn’t appear to have much empathy which is clear by the fact that he isn’t bothered in the slightest by ruining the lives of others whether it be by sabotaging their businesses, taking their valuables, or killing their family members. He does, however, have a soft spot for children and will burn a city if it meant protecting one. He believes children are innocent which could be used against him as he heavily lets his guard down around them.

R’jhera tends to lurk a lot when he’s not doing work in order to ‘scope out’ potential places and/or people he can rob in his spare time for a little extra coin. This tends to make a lot of people rattled as he’s got a very unsettling demeanour when doing so that makes others uncomfortable. This is because he’s impossible to read so his intent is never clear.

When he hasn't fed on the blood of another to ease his Vampirism, he becomes increasingly impatient, irritable, and downright aggressive the longer he goes without it. It's best not to approach or bother him when he's in this state as he can be very dangerous depending on how starved he is.

HISTORY

R'jhera grew up alone after his caravan of Khajiit were killed by bandits. Instead of following his instincts to get himself back to Elsweyr, he ventured deeper into Skyrim - living comfortably by stealing food from market stalls and sleeping in abandoned shacks or whatever comfortable shelter he could find. During particularly bad weather (especially snowstorms) he'd break into others' houses and fall asleep in front of their fireplaces. That usually ended with him being smacked out the door with a broom come early morning. He was a talented young lad in the stealing department, and through his teenage years he'd perfected the art of sneaking and picking locks, and he went from simply stealing food to stealing valuables such as precious gemstones, weapons, and jewelry - which he'd then sell to unsuspecting merchants for gold.

He eventually got too cocky for his own good and broke into the Jarl of Whiterun’s chambers and got his claws on a jewelled gold jug. In an attempt to quietly lug it out, a guard caught him by the scruff of the neck. He instantly got a bounty, but when asked to turn out his pockets it was revealed that he had not only stolen the jug, but also the Jarl’s jewellery, money, and a dwarven dagger that he’d shoved in a loop on his belt. His bounty rose, but with some badly timed attitude on R’jhera’s part, the guard had quickly had enough with him and simply decided to send him to the execution block. When leaving the room, the guard also caught another khajiit – M’jazii – walking through the halls nearby and immediately assumed the two were together. When asked to turn out her pockets she had a lot of gold as well which further incriminated her despite her having earned it herself. She insisted that she was doing errands for the Jarl but the guard heard none of it and sent the two khajiits on the next carriage to Helgen where they would face their end. M’jazii begged and begged to be let go, to the point where the guard knocked her out to shut her up. She spent most of the carriage ride unconscious. When she did wake, she turned to R’jhera, who simply laughed at her outcries. This made her furious. How could he be so careless? How could he find her situation – well, their situation so amusing? She didn’t bother asking as they had arrived.

One execution down, a handful more to go. R’jhera watched as they called M’jazii to the block, biting into the bindings around his wrists whenever the guards weren’t looking in an attempt to loosen them. Suddenly, there was a mighty roar and a dragon descended upon them all and began violently attacking the soldiers and captives. As soon as everyone was distracted by the chaos, R’jhera fled – not caring for the fates of the others. His heart was racing from the dragon attack, however, and he was suddenly hyper-aware of his own mortality after facing a beast such as that. He decided that he’d be a lot more cautious in the future, and keep that sharp tongue of his still.

He wandered around the area for awhile until eventually making it into The Rift, and in turn – Riften. He’d heard rumours of a Thieves Guild and he wanted to check it out as he thought he’d benefit from an organisation such as that. It was easy for him to become recruited, though it took a little bit longer for a few of the more serious Guild members to acknowledge his existence. He worked hard for months and months, and quickly became one of their best recruits. He did, however, find himself getting bored. The rush he used to feel doing this line of work had slowly begun to leave him, so he took a break and started seeking out newer… more dangerous work. It took him a long time, but he managed to get the attention of the Dark Brotherhood in Dawnstar and settled in with them quite nicely. He was lucky they were looking for recruits after a tragic incident involving their prior members, otherwise they may not have given him the time of day.

Having his new assassin job gave him that thrill he’d been looking for once again, and keeping it a secret from his guildmates gave him something to cling to like it were a secret identity. While he doesn’t think any of the members would care, this was something he’d rather keep to himself.

DESIGN NOTES
R’jhera is about 6’0” in height and has a fairly bulky build for a khajiit. Due to wielding warhammers most of the time, he has strong muscular arms and broad shoulders. He appears to have a ‘reverse calico’ appearance where his fur is black and he has white and ginger patches across his body. His face consists of a large white patch over the right side of his face, a small white patch under his left eye, a ginger nose bridge, white muzzle, and a ginger chin. He’s got ice blue eyes and a pale maroon nose. He has white tabby striping over his forehead and back of his neck, and has a white tummy with a ginger patch in the middle. The tabby striping continues over his whole back, thighs, and tail – with his tail ending in a ginger tip and his right foot (up to mid-calf) being ginger as well. He also appears to have ginger patching under both his underarms.

His hair is ginger and braided tightly, with the ends tied to large gold rings. He also has his black cheek fluff braided as well, normally having one small braid on his right side and two on his left. These braids are attached to smaller gold rings – however his hair appears cut and re-tied to the ends. He typically wears either his Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood armour, but he does have casual clothes that he wears from time to time.

Tunes

❛❛ Down in the gutter and looking for trouble
Or something to that effect
I will follow you down into the dark
And I was left in the depths surrounding her feral heart
Oh, there's just something about the sun
That seems so very, very boring ❜❜

TRIVIA

  • His most prized possession is his Champion’s Cudgel and he carries it around with him at all times, even when he’s not on the job. He loves warhammers that much that he keeps a lot of them in a large weapon rack beside his bed in the Cistern.
  • He doesn’t care for the war and does not have a preferred side. He’d much rather leave that business to someone else.
  • He has a romantic interest in the Riften jeweller, Madesi. He wouldn’t persist with him, however, as he wouldn’t want to put him in harm’s way due to his line of work. He has more luck with Rune, but won't persist with him either lest he mess up their current relationship.
  • The only time he hands out money is to the orphans he sees in the towns he visits. He doesn’t care for the other homeless, but will always make sure the children are well fed. He makes weekly donations to the Riften Orphanage. He doesn’t use his money usually – because he steals everything, after all. No-one knows he donates to the Orphanage, and he prefers it stays that way, lest it ruin his ‘image’.
  • He is not a nightingale and finds the worship of Nocturnal questionable, at best. He’s not particularly a religious man.
  • Despite favouring his Cudgel and a dagger for combat, he is also adept in fire-specific destruction magic and uses it from time to time when he's caught without a weapon or on the rare occassion where he would rather keep his distance when fighting.
  • It's easy to tell how bloodstarved he is as his body tends to go through subtle changes. His fur lightens/desaturates/greys out slightly and becomes coarser, his irritability and aggression increases, and his fangs may appear to be larger. It is very obvious if he's gone without blood for four or more days, as his eyes will permanently be blood red until he feeds - in which they'll fade back to blue. It takes a little bit longer for the life/colour to return to his fur, however. Typically within 24 hours, but can take a few days. Feeding regularly keeps his fur dark and glowing.
  • The only time he ever wears his Dark Brotherhood armour is if he's doing a contract. He wears his Thieves Guild armour into the sanctuary and changes in there, and does the same before he leaves. He never takes his DB armour out of the sanctuary when he's not wearing it so that he can keep his double life as secret as possible. The only one who knows about it is M'jazii, who has the unfortunate 6th sense for finding him out and about no matter when or where.

M'JAZII - Rival

These two met at the Helgen execution block and never saw each other again until a fateful meeting in Falkreath. Neither really recognised the other at first, but M’jazii immediately saw red upon noticing a thief in her town. She hates him, whereas he’s indifferent. They continue to cross paths a lot and she continues to threaten him while he doesn’t particularly show any interest. One has to wonder if their fates are entwined somehow, but R’jhera doesn’t believe in fate. Their meetings are always purely coincidence and he knows nothing about her. He doesn’t even know she’s the dragonborn, she’d likely catch his interest if he found out.

TEIHSI-JAI - Friend

Teihsi and R’jhera have a strange friendship in the sense that while they really don’t seem like they’d get along, they’re usually joined at the hip whenever they’re together. This is rare as Teihsi’s participation in the Guild is rare, usually once a month – so R’jhera makes the most of their time together. This isn’t much as Tei doesn’t really care for his company all that much and actually finds him to be a bit of a nuisance, but tolerates him. R’jhera likes Tei as he has someone he can spill all his gossip on, like he were saying it to a brick wall.

SONAIRE - Mistress

When Sonaire decided to build her own army, she quickly realised she needed to turn others to do it. She found R'jhera one day as he had stumbled across her small castle and was trying to loot it and quickly made him her thrall as a punishment. It didn't take her long to notice that R'jhera had some friends in some pretty high placed considering the two factions he was a part of, and after realising that his thrall loyalty wasn't completely her doing, she decided to turn him and make him her first of many loyal subjects. He continues to serve her, but no-one knows of their involvement together since R'jhera keeps being a vampire a secret from anyone that isn't close to him, and as far as they are concerned - he's a lone wolf.

MA'THUZA - Rival

Ma'thuza meet R'jhera when he visited one of the orc strongholds and found the khajiit spending time with his kin. He was, naturally, furious upon seeing the thieve's guild armour he wore and hated him immediately. He didn't have much of a reason to hate him besides the fact that he hated thieves and was somewhat annoying with his cocky attitude, and R'jhera didn't really have any opinion on him. It wasn't until Ma'thuza - who is in the Dawnguard - not only found out about his Dark Brotherhood involvement AND the fact that he was a vampire that he vowed to kill him. R'jhera, not being stupid, knows all too well that Ma'thuza is a threat and regularly 'disappears' whenever he feels the orc is a danger to him.
