Brynhild

Brynhild and her twin sister, Ciarra, were adopted by a nice Orc who raised them in a snowy village in the mountains right up until he was brutally murdered in front of them by bandits. Something in Brynhild snapped, and she became so pissed off that she tracked down and the people responsible that very same night. Unfortunately, her house burned down while she was doing that, so when the twins got back to their village, they were immediately kicked out because they "[couldn't] contribute to the village's prosperity" because they were LITERALLY CHILDREN.

Brynhild and Ciarra made it to Argen, where they lives as street urchins for a while. Something in Ciarra also snapped on that night, and she sought to escape reality by abusing whatever drug or drink she could get her hands on. Eventually, Ciarra would have a prophetic vision from a goddess, which led to the founding of the Argentum Order, which Brynhild helped to found and lead up until she either got pissed off enough by her sister's habits to either get kicked out or leave, depending on who you ask.

Frustrated by and jealous of her sister, Brynhild rampaged her way to a sacred well containing the tears of the gods, where she made a deal with a spirit claiming to be a messenger of her deity. The spirit said it would be Cool and Good to go back to the Order and tamper with Ciarra's drugs in such a way that she would be kept in a stupor, and Brynhild could then take her place as the "Oracle" and become Order's sole leader. WELL IF IT'S COMING FROM THE GODDESS, IT MUST BE TRUE, LET'S DO THAT.

By the time Brynhild realized that she actually made a deal with a devil, decades had passed, and the Order had become a worldwide force. In 215, a tear in the space-time continuum erased her devil buddy from existence, and Brynhild with her negative INT modifier was unable to lead the Order on her own. They lost a significant amount of their holdings and reputation, and eventually a Sage would realize "hey that's not the Oracle!" and actually care enough to do something about it (fun fact: most of the higher-ups already knew it was Brynhild and not Ciarra that was leading the Order and just didn't care because you don't mess with success! Most of these people have since been fired or killed!), at which point Brynhild was arrested (220ish) and Ciarra was reinstated as the Oracle.

Unwilling to let her only family be sentenced to death, Ciarra had Brynhild shuffled from prison to prison until 222, then she had another vision indicating she should send Brynhild on a journey of atonement. Tifreth was in the vision so she got sent, too. Fun fact 2: Brynhild's plan was to immediately ditch Tifreth and gather up enough people to oust her sister and re-assume the role of the Order's sole leader, but they got accosted by dark spirits while still at the Order HQ and realized something was going on and focused on that instead :V

In addition to Tifreth and Brynhild, the party contained Athra: a marginally less evil wizard whose objectives COINCIDENTALLY aligned with Tifreth and Brynhild's; and Mak: a grippli monk/druid who was just along for the ride.

Brynhild already disliked Athra just because she was a Wizard, so when Athra got possessed by a pendant and tried to Disintegrate Tifreth, Brynhild was pretty excited to mete out justice. Luckily, the goddess intervened by zapping Brynhild with lightning. Realizing that the goddess a) exists and b) is paying attention made Brynhild start to turn her act around.

Got her arms and legs cut off in one fell strike! Tifreth reattached them immediately, but everyone was slightly traumatized!

Got completely disintegrated in the very last session of the campaign! Tifreth Resurrected her immediately, but everyone was EXTREMELY traumatized! Decided to keep the incident secret from her sister, but their father was fully aware of it from his spot in the afterlife...
