One would think that a man, sworn to silence, would be as reserved in presence as he was in tongue. Rather, Suhail is an expressive and charismatic young man who does not let his faith-based handicap hinder his ability to communicate, and form relationships. He's kind, understanding, clever, and has the patience of a hawk--the perfect sounding board if ever one existed. His silence lends to Suhail being incredibly observant and perceptive, and his spirituality and faith have molded him into one of compassion and loyalty. That isn't to say he doesn't know how to enjoy himself--he does enjoy friendly teasing, sparring, and even combat when the circumstances are justified. While he was initially skeptical of joining a pirate crew, he's come to enjoy the change--vastly different from where he was raised.
When it comes to relationships, Suhail is loyal to perhaps an ignorant degree. He's overwhelmingly trusting, protective, and willing to sacrifice his own well-being for those he views as worthy of such a sacrifice--to him, that's most anyone. In situations of conflict, one can see a darker side of the young man. He can take quite a beating and has been shown to descend into a far more ruthless place when fighting for something, or someone, he believes in.
History:
Suhail was born into a small, remote religious sect; far-removed from the rest of the world. This sect, separate from many of the dominant faiths, believed that the world was created in four days by four gods. As a result, their culture revolved around the number four in many ways, including the destined path of the fourth child of every family. Suhail was the fourth son, which meant he was to devote his life, his entire being, to their faith. He knew that when he came of age at sixteen, he would be expected to take a vow of celibacy, but also of voice. He was prepared for this in his youth, educated around the faith, learning to read and write, and trained in defensive combat for the protection of his people.
It was a frightening time, coming of age. A time he'd prepared for his entire life, but one he was still unsure he was prepared for. Taking the vow was simple, but leaving his home--the isolated place he knew absolutely--was terrifying. Still, he accepted his purpose, he gave up his voice, and he was left to select a pilgrimage--a place to travel to spread the faith and enlighten himself under the compassionate eye of their Gods. Through minor coercion from an old friend, Suhail elected to 'serve' his pilgrimage aboard a pirate ship. Plenty of sinners to save, he imaged, and a life unlike anything he'd experienced before. Horrifying, still, but liberating.

♦ Suhail is sworn celibate, meaning he is not permitted to engage in sexual conduct of any kind, including kissing. He can cuddle, however, and is quite fond of it.
