"It is impossible to say that I can put this above all else... However, it does take up- roughly- sixty-three percent of my waking notions, being a great source of satisfaction in many senses.
Yes, I was... Indeed... Speaking about my career.
...Vulcans cannot lie, after all."

Haughty - Analytical - Secretive - 'Still waters run deep'

Working for the V'Shar, Taunek is, naturally, dedicated to his work, and by logical connection, dedicated to the safety of Vulcan through keeping on track of suspicious and uncertain external connections to the planet.
There are plenty of times Taunek works undercover, but when it comes to Vulcan and the Federation allies that work closely with Earth and its humans, he knows the government in-and-out and finds it... Stimulating, in a sense, to be a part of this massive undertaking that everyone relies on.

He had never expected to end up where he is, intending to work with Starfleet instead as a medical biologist, but having failed the entrance exams for being late, he went back to Vulcan and, in an act of emotion, caused a ruckus in the city, drunk and belligerent. It caught a few V'Shar operatives attention at seeing a fellow Vulcan debase himself publicly without backing down or showing weakness in his decision-- and the rest is history.
So being a Vulcan operative may not be the most glamorous thing (compared to other species' level of government espionage), but at least on Taunek's end, it is not humdrum, or considered a paper-pushing desk career.

Despite his work being very active and taking up nearly all of his waking hours, he, in true Star Trek fashion, manages to find time to cultivate or find amusement in his interests. He refuses to admit aloud how much humans excite him, but trust when its said that those could be considered a hobby to him as well.

His favorite missions are working with liaisons on the mostly-human-populated Federation starships... He keeps extensive record on all sorts of human behaviors and reactions as if this is completely fine and acceptable as a hobby, and not the notions of a man with a perverse obsession for trying to piece together the puzzling thing known as the Human Condition*. Naturally, he is weak when it comes to his humans, and fails these missions horribly, getting distracted. He is rarely assigned them...

When around his fellow Vulcan coworkers and bosses, Taunek puts on an air of focused dedication, but as soon as he's away from his homeplanet, he feels much more comfortable and gets just a little illogical. Compared to other Vulcans, he is pretty out-there (try as he might to mask that in front of them), but from an outsider's perspective, he seems just as logical, cold-hearted and computer-like as the rest of 'em.
With those he is close to- those who know his actions and reactions- he will for sure be much more emotional... But don't expect much: he's still a Vulcan and does indeed follow the teachings of Surak to the best of his abilities, respecting himself and his people despite all of his wanton chasing after humans. More eyebrow quirks, brash words and slang (spoken most monotonously ofc), or the hint of a smirk is as 'wild' as he'll get. And that is what he'd consider losing control, but... He kind of likes it.

* ...He really won't admit to this (much like everything else), but Klingons are also a great point of interest. Not exactly on the same level as humans are for him, but better than many other species that he dismisses. He finds Klingons fascinating with how passionate and openly emotional they are. Also, the fact that they are just as strong as Vulcans, if not a little stronger, means Taunek has curious thoughts about how he himself would fare against an enraged Klingon (or conversely, a lustful Klingon...).

Likes

  • Humans and the way their minds work
  • Telepathy and its convenience
  • Touch, affection (to an extent)
  • Vulcans ...regarding some things. Namely, himself and his existence and intelligence; that's useful and appreciated.

Interests

  • Reading any genre of story
  • Horticulture; non-Vulcan foliage
  • Xenobiology
  • Math, mathematical theories
  • Surak's teachings, xenophilosophy too

Dislikes

  • Vulcans ...regarding some things. Surak's teachings, while the keystone and pinnacle of restraint and logic, does lend to elitism that keeps others far from Vulcans themselves. It is... Demeaning.
  • Having to do paperwork for his superiors

Trivia

  • I don't intend to have him interact with canon characters 'cause that's like, the opposite of my jam to the power of the nth degree.... sorry...
However, feel free to throw any star trek compliant species at him ^^ (especially humans! wink)
  • My first fan-character design that is intended to stay solely within the 'verse of the media they're created for (no non-Trek AUs for him, please)!
  • His interest in practicing mathematical theories, namely unsolved ones, is due to knowing- mathematically- someday his chances of solving one will happen.
  • Taunek's interest in reading is solely on PADDs, as their 'natural' physical format of book-binding and papers are unwieldy and difficult to travel with.
  • Holodecks disappoint him immensely (no telepathy connection) and he will only resort to them if his surroundings are humanless, and therefore bleak. lol
