Biography

Personality

Nathaniel Clement isn't a unpleasant guy to hang around with. He's he's quick with a joke and observing .He's never truly truthful though, always has his own hidden agenda. He tempts to hold grudges for a very long time and is easily describe as (over)-zealous in getting his revenges. Nathaniel is a brute, he knows what he wants and he knows how to get it in the easiest way possible. Nathaniel wants to see results and isn't here for the progress. He's scared of his own power, or Halves, in general. Nathaniel Clement believes that the world would be a better place without Halves. Or magic in general! This ol' sailor is superstitious and hates every form of magic.  He's a smuggler and harpooner through and through. This good ol' sea-man loves making deals and sell you spices, pelts and such. Nate hates thieves. too.

forum game notes : is considered to be Drakenburg's most dangerous criminal and acts this way. (Unafraid, tight sleeper, likes to let his presence known in the room etc.) people madly respect him out of fear. Hates gods and higher beings and can 'track them' with his magic. Has sharp shark like teeth and feline like eyes. Has a warm trustworthy voice and a loud thundering laugh (linking back to his big boy presence). Nathaniel turns physical very fast when angered and is quick to anger. His attitude demands respect.

History

The bastard

Nathaniel was a bastard born on 'the wrong side' of the family tree. His mother was a noblewoman, the first in a line of the Jansen wealth, but had a relationship with a port worker in secret. While Nathaniel's half-brother lived a prosperous life in wealth, Nathaniel lived with his port worker dad. Things changed when they found coal (not gold yet) in Drakenburg and his wealthy family decided to invest in mines. The Jansen family left Rotrecht and made their way to Drakenburg. His mom left Nathaniel and his dad behind and the money she gave them in secret stopped. Now broke, Nathaniel decided from a young age to work to keep his father afloat. Not any work. He manages to weasel his way onto a harpooners-ship. As a cook's mate. He's 18 when he officially joins the harpoon guild himself. He's a whaler. And spend many times on the sea.
Nathaniel eventually grows older, losing his dad to poor health and old age. The harpooner settles down himself numerous times. Having weak relationship after weak relationships and a hard time keeping things cool. He's restless as when he's not at sea. Nathaniel gambles and (illegally) fights when on land. Hardly scraping by with the money his harpooning jobs earn him.
That is until someone starts to send him money.
His nephew overseas Jan-Paul had learned about his bastard-uncle and tried to lure him to Drakenburg. To his home.

This new lust for gold distracts Nathaniel. Everything went south when Nathaniel got promoted as a navigator on the Duke (a prospective whaleship with cutthroat competition).
He gets into fights with the man he works under (his whaler-captain) a lot. The fight about money, payment, and the captain fairly sharing his goods with the rest of his crew. Which is horrible skewed at that time. Nathaniel is a charismatic fellow with a silver tongue and a knack for humor. It's not hard for him to make 'friends' (though the relationships hardly go deep). This results in the crew slowly turning against their former captain and allying himself with Nathaniel instead. The captain wants him gone.
But they were in the middle of the ocean.
One night the captain-loyalist sneak into Nathaniel's cabinet. They dragged him on deck, cut his gills. Keelhauled him. But not without a fight.
Nathaniel, with his ear bitten off, manages to drag one of the loyalists down to the abyss with him. Killing them both.

Nathaniel got touched by the Void and became a Half. A (fish) person with a half-life. Someone who died, but was brought back to the realm of the living by the Void that lingers in everything and everyone. Halves always have strange occultic powers that relate to the way they died. Nathaniel has some pressure-related occulted power, he fears but also.. abuses.

they haul Nathaniel's body back on the ship, not knowing that he survived/turned until it's too late. Nathaniel kills the captain with his new found powers and takes control with an iron fist. It's the first time Nathaniel experience the power of the new occultic powers that ran ramped in his body. He orders the now terrified crew to set sail towards Drakenburg. 'Home'. '
He arrives at Drakenburg at an age of 40. Thanks to social standards and Jan-Paul not being the real owner of his wealth (as the gold-merchant is 13 at the time (who just really wants a family) Nathaniel isn't able to join his nephew /just/ yet.
It's Easterling tradition to wear an earring in case you fall overboard and drown. The people who find you can use that earring to pay for your Ebt to the sea (the way they burry people in the Northern Pact).
The drowned sailor uses this golden earring actually to buy an old ship. A place to live in. The old steamboat is named the 'St Erasmus' and will later function as his Gespans hideout and as a bar.
Nathaniel returns to his normal business to earn money, illegal fights, and skinning seals for their pelt. With those fights came money and fame. As he started to use his Half-powers to literally crush his opponents.
From money came a following, from his fame came fear. His gaze shifted away from fighting and focused themselves on smuggling. He starts a Gespan. 'A guild' for smugglers like himself. Called the Zeewolven, named after the small ships that chase after whales on the fast seas.

The Zeewolven gespan nowadays are feared mostly for their violence. Unlike the Wilgen and especially the Krakers, Zeewolven rely on their muscles more than their stealth. The Zeewolven gespan is a special 'guild'. As it operates as fluent as the waters the smugglers work on. Nathaniel doesn't know who's a member of his Gespan and who is not. Smugglers (sometimes rogues too.. Especially Roswell) sometimes call upon Nathaniel's name, claim to be a Zeewolf to get themselves out of trouble, without officially joining or even meeting the man! Loyalty is the Gespans biggest weakness, as Nathaniel isn't loyal to his crew himself. He's a rough individual, not afraid to kill for what he wants. Has a quick tongue. Only out there for himself and trying to, against all social odds, reclaim a stationary space next to his nephew.

Ability

Nathaniel is able to manipulate (air)pressure. He’s able to break your bones with a simple hand shake. Nathaniel is a brute and his powers reflect that. There is nuance. Nathaniel can force you to stay in your place and is able to break your guns in an instant by touching it. He’s not nice. Nathaniel’s power can splinter wood, rock and even dense metals.  :(
During eclipses, Nathaniel is even able to shift the pressure inside of things (or.. People) if he focusses enough.

Sense:
When Nathaniel uses his leemte lights will dim. If you’re near him while using his leemte your ears will pop and your head starts to throb. (Especially behind the eyes). The air will go cold and watery. You can smell brine and the ocean.

Nathaniel is a full blood Eastern man, meaning that’s he got all the ‘racial traits’. Nathaniel has pointy ear(s) (one got ripped in the fight with the loylists) who move is he tries to express his emotions, has small fin sideburns. He has more alveoli than an average person and membranes in front of his eyes, inside his ear and nose, that allows his to regulate the pressure in his head.

🌔

-Nathaniel really likes raw fish/sushi. He didn't particularly like the taste before he died (he liked cooked/hot foods) and he always found it a bit weird since he's always been.... fishy but one time he ate it as a power move to intimidate some underlings and now he can't get enough. - Beefy

-Nathaniel’s penchant for the water is something that surprises most people before they realize he’s a Half. Dude can swim laps in a time period where most people can’t, and he’s made many a bet with people who think that he’ll drown, and has even gone so far to tie rocks to his belt in an attempt to make the wagers higher. He always wins these bets, and gets that coin he so deeply craves. - Saltminer

-When Nathaniel finally gets his revenge and overthrows Jan-Paul from the his throne he has half (lol pun) a mind to dump him in the ocean, as a sort of twisted revenge. Leave him to the fishes so to speak. He also fantasizes what he’ll do with his money due to getting rid of Jan-Paul as well. Perhaps a silver plated scimitar. Mochi
