Tilly’s fur is short, smooth, and as black as the night, with splotches of orange and beige spattered across her face and body and bright white whiskers. She has two enormous green eyes that stand out starkly against her dark face. Her hair is as black as her fur and straight, flowing down to where her tail connects, with bangs cut blunt across her forehead. On occasion she’ll wear it in a bun or in braids. 

She is tiny in stature, only measuring in at about 5’1”, but she carries herself in such a way that it’s easy to forget she’s so small. She has a rich, mature voice that sounds as if it should not belong to her.

Her clothing style tends toward "modern witch" and she prefer dark colors, neutrals, and jewel tones. She wears a lot of dresses, rompers, jumpsuits, and pantsuits.

Intelligent Generous Irritable Distrusting

Tilly can be a bit of an enigma. Much of the time she’s aloof. She’s more than comfortable pouring cocktails and cleaning glasses in relative silence as she takes in the gossip and murmurs of the patrons around her. However, when it comes to networking and promoting her business, she’s much more outgoing. She loves seeing patrons happy at her business.

Trust issues and past trauma keep her from having too many friends, but she tries hard to nurture the relationships she does have, and she generally tries to be kind to others -- even strangers. She does her best to give to those less fortunate than she is.

A true introvert, she loves coming home to a quiet apartment at the end of a busy day.

Her youthful appearance and diminutive stature tend to make others underestimate her or shrug her off – a fact she loves to use to her advantage. Despite her usual pleasant demeanor, she’s prone to moods and quick to temper and can be outright fierce when rightly provoked.

Tilly grew up in a small village not very far from London. She was the only daughter of her single mother, Giselda Marleigh. Though she never met her father, she knew that he was a wealthy man living somewhere in the city, and she knew that he had another family. Her mother’s main source of income, other than selling her homebrewed alternative medicine, was extorting Tilly’s father, who regularly paid a handsome sum to ensure that his dalliance with a witch and his illegitimate daughter never came to light.

Giselda was a devout pagan and a practicer of witchcraft, and believing her daughter had a “gift” within her, raised her to do the same. As a girl, Tilly followed at her mother’s skirts wherever she went: gathering herbs, crafting potions, going out into the woods by moonlight for rituals. She was fascinated by it all and loved the attention she got from her mother, but her interest in her mother’s faith came at a price. She was seen as eccentric, strange, and frightening by the other children in the village and they frequently bullied her. The other parents drew their kin near to them, refusing to let them play with the little tortoiseshell girl. As a result, Tilly grew lonely and drew further into herself: practicing what her mother taught her, reading books, and honing her artistic talents when she could. Plants and animals became her only friends, and she began to develop a particular interest in dark magic and in toxicology.

With the money from Tilly’s father, Giselda was able to send her daughter to a good university in London to further her education. The shy girl began to come out of her shell a bit in the big city, where her eccentric tendencies attracted curiosity from her classmates rather than derision. Through a chain of connections at her university she was introduced to the Celestine Circle Coven, a group of seemingly like-minded individuals that also had knowledge of potions, spells, rituals, and the like. At the first opportunity, she earned her membership, and has counted herself among the coven ever since – a fact that she doesn’t outright advertise, but that doesn’t tend to surprise anyone.

As Tilly continued her classes, she began working at a local pub in London's City Centre for savings and spending money and so that she no longer needed to fully rely on her father's handouts. However, she soon learned that her talents in poison-making were a much more lucrative profession, and with time she became known as the go-to for wealthy Londoners looking to make quick work of their enemies. Her expertly-crafted, uniquely concocted custom poisons fetched a high price on the black market, and the influx of money made it possible for Tilly to purchase the building of the pub she'd worked in as it was folding. She remodeled the place into the popular, Gothic-themed craft cocktail bar it is today: Blackthorn & Sage. She continued to work her poison trade on the side, using the bar as a front. But as the bar grew in popularity and success, the poison-crafting took a backseat to her more upfront business venture. Though Tilly still takes poison commissions for the right price, it is no longer her main source of income, just a profitable side-job.

With the success of Blackthorn, Tilly was eventually able to convince her mother to stop communication with her father, now able to support Giselda fully with the money from the bar. She makes frequent visits back home to visit her aging mother, but would never dream of moving away from London -- the place she feels most at home.
