Clémence

Clémence finds it difficult to show her emotions through words and expression—to a point others think she doesn't feel pain at all—and may seem nonchalant even when passing judgment to the departed. She is often misunderstood at times as an unfeeling "ice princess", but deep inside she is a rather soft-hearted girl. She is also quite meticulous with her work as a scheduler and researches extensively as she generally fears punishing the innocents who don't deserve it.

She has a strange fondness for the occult and bears some talent in divination through tarot cards, so she would sometimes tell someone's fortune on her free time. As part of the job, she developed her sleuthing skills and is quite good in tracking down people. She doesn't lose sight of her clientele whenever they wander about when allowed to complete some unfinished business, or when visiting their loved ones that were left behind.

Present day metropolis where the world is divided into three realms: the mortal realm, the in-between, and the afterlife housing "heaven" and "hell". There are beings called the grim reapers, or "schedulers" as everyone prefers to call them, who decide the fate of souls once they leave their mortal bodies behind forever. Each scheduler holds a special card upon judging a soul. A "white card" permits rebirth or entry to heaven (once a soul matures through several reincarnations), while a "red card" sends the departed to hell.

Clémence is a scheduler who doesn't remember her past except for her first name, but she always knew she was once human. She often starts the day reading the documents of the people she is assigned to guide and pass judgment to. There are times she gets off schedule when her seniors decide to shaft the younger schedulers (including her) with more work. Despite this, she doesn't let this affect her at all which frustrates some of her seniors for not showing any signs of displeasure. Among the schedulers she is considered very efficient as she makes logical decisions when passing judgment, and is held in high regard by her underclassmen despite her sub par combat skills.

She doesn't understand why there would be times her left eye would bleed, but because of this she would wear an eyepatch as to not scare the people she meets—especially because some of them don't realize they're no longer part of the living. The only hint she ever has about herself and her life as a human is that she was probably a very sickly girl. Even when she has already become a reaper she feels pain nearly every time she moves, especially her left leg which she needed to put a brace on just so that she can walk. The pain even gets worse in cold weather. While the pain is usually tolerable for her, her physical condition inflicted her with unending jokes and teasing from her colleagues, since she would smell like an old lady because of the distinctively strong minty scent her pain relief patches give off from her body. Even as a reaper, she still enjoys mortal pleasures such as instant noodles and 3-in-1 coffee.

A demon who was once human. He appears the same age as her and constantly claims to be her twin brother. While Clémence is skeptical about his claims, it seems to her he isn't lying because of the uncanny features they have in common. Whether it is the truth or not, she'd prefer to avoid him because his soul has been corrupted far beyond saving, and exorcising him would result in his destruction—something she feels too heartbroken to do for some reason. Though there would be times she is forced to confront him when he ends up targeting the lost souls she is passing judgment on.

A diabolicus who follows Clémence around. While she isn't exactly comfortable with the idea of being courted by an undead demon, she doesn't stop him from trying. She acknowledges that he is an attractive and charming man, but has yet to stop feeling indifferent towards him. In a way she does enjoy his company since he tells interesting stories of his life's ventures, and he has plenty to tell given how long he's been around. She finds it funny how this ancient being takes offense with her partiality towards instant coffee, and how he's trying to convince her to change her preferences by brewing expensive coffee for her every chance he gets.
