Personality
Everyone loves Argus, and for good reason. He’s a genuinely kind dude who always stops to listen and enjoy people’s company. Plus, he’s a genius with coffee. Argus likes to get to know the people who stop at his shop. It makes him happy to see other people happy after all. He’s the kind of person who thrives on the happiness of others.
Don’t mistake his kindness for naivety, however. Argus will not put up with anyone’s nonsense. He knows how to put his foot down and is not afraid to say no. After all, if you don’t put up boundaries then you invite people to take advantage of you. And Argus doesn’t like it when that happens.
Argus is also secretly fairly cynical. He’s seen so much crap during his time running the coffee shop - nasty breakups, government things, dark magic - you name it, Argus has probably seen something along that vein. There’s a reason why he tries to be kind. He feels like he should be a force for good in the world, even if it seems pointless.
Argus is a very dedicated man. He started his coffee shop not for money, but to provide a comfortable environment for people to hang out in. It’s very important to him, so he spends a lot of time on it. Same goes with his family. He loves his wife and daughter so much that he puts a lot of love and effort into being with them.
Most of all, though, Argus is the kind of person who finds meaning in everything. Not that he over analyzes, but he does believe that there is a grand order to things that people tend to overlook. People may think he’s silly for it, but there’s gotta be something out there. It’s a quiet belief that he’s going to hang onto for a while.
Design Notes
- Argus is an auracorn, and thus has an equine feral form. It has the same markings as his humanoid form, it’s just a horse.
- Argus has top surgery scars from ages ago, so they’re pretty healed over now.
- From his gemstone, Argus can summon a horn which allows him to perform magic (specifics in ref).
- Argus likes to wear simple clothes, and is the kind of person who will wear shorts in the winter.
Trivia
- Argus’ coffee shop is called the Bean Place.
- Argus’ daughter Delilah was born before he and his wife transitioned, so he tends to keep pictures of himself from around that time hidden.
- Argus absolutely adores the cats that Marilyn brought home. They were a surprise, but he loves his fluffy boys so much.
- Argus does his best to blunt his horns - they get in the way.
History
In all honesty, Argus has had a really boring life. He had a perfectly ordinary middle-class life - good school, good friends, and kind parents who taught him kindness and strength all in one. Sure there was that weird feeling whenever he was referred to as a girl, but otherwise it was all fine.
He fell in love at a young age, had a whirlwind romance, and got married really fast. Then came the accidental Delilah. Because of the baby, Argus soon discovered that he was actually a guy, and when he brought it up to his wife, she said that she was actually a woman and it was fine.
As soon as Delilah was old enough to be left alone for a while, he and Marilyn managed to scrape up enough money for their respective transitions. It was fun comparing lives pre- and post-transition with her. She always had the most wonderful of insights.
Soon after Argus was no longer dealing with surgeries, he decided to open his coffee shop. To his utter surprise, it became fairly popular really fast. Plus, one of his childhood friends, Lumiere started stopping by and sharing gossip.
Unfortunately, Argus has been witness to way too much drama and things over his time. While he’s smart enough to know when not to interfere, it’s still frustrating, especially when it’s not something he can legally kick someone out for. He just grins and bears it.
Otherwise, Argus has had a lovely and chill life with a wonderful family and his nice coffee shop.

Argus and Marilyn are absolutely an old, content married couple. They adore each other so much. Argus appreciates that Marilyn has a busy life and doesn’t fault her for spending so much time away from him. After all, it makes time with her that much sweeter. Plus, she always makes time for him. Always.
Delilah has elected Argus as #1 Dad for the past 20 years. He adores Delilah a whole lot. He’s always there for her and is willing to help her with all of her problems, big or small. Argus really is the responsible, loving parent we all dream of having. Sure, Argus has his limits and sometimes his cynicism gets the better of him. That’s nothing, though. Delilah loves him very much, and he’d do anything for his daughter.
Lumiere and Argus were childhood friends growing up. While Lumiere was the flashy one who got all the attention, Argus was the chill dude who blended into the background and got Lumiere out of trouble. They even dated for a bit, but then Argus fell in love with Marilyn and Lumiere got involved in their career. Now that they’ve gotten a chance to reconnect, they’re as close as they were before everything happened.
