BACKSTORY:

He was the 'weird kid'. He never displayed strong affection towards any people. He spent most of his time playing with animals and talking to them as if they understood everything. Until his dog, Santa, passed away.

He couldn't cope with her death; he had to bring her back. So he embarked on a quest, and somehow gained the power to resurrect dead animals. However, it came too late to revive Santa. Grieving, he buried her, then decided to use his powers to resurrect other animals instead. It made him feel a little better, knowing that he could give them their lives back.

Nowadays, he may be seen roaming the countryside in southwest England, scavenging dead creatures.

All that outsiders know about the Keeper is his fascination with dead animals. He mistrusts other humans, regardless of their demeanour or intentions. He's very afraid of encountering other people and will actually run away if he sees someone while walking outside. Besides people, he also seems to fear wildfire, guns and cars.

The Keeper is soft-spoken and gentle, with an awkward, fumbling manner of speech. He is very detached from his past and doesn't like talking about his childhood in particular. Whether because he hates it or simply doesn't have any feelings towards it is unknown. However, he certainly isn't in contact with any of the people who raised him.

He's usually lighthearted and cheerful, especially when at home with his animals, but can occasionally display a darker side. He may become morose, gloomy or even irritable for periods of time, seeming to brood over something he can't talk about. These mood swings may be a result of dwelling on his past. Most of the time, though, he's very spirited, and tireless in his efforts to save more animals.

DESIGN:

The Keeper is usually seen wearing a long brown cloak with the hood pulled up. He has a bone mask resembling a plague doctor's, with coverings over the eyeholes to make them dark. It's hard to see what he might be wearing underneath the cloak.

His hair is an ashy-brown colour and very messily cut. His eyes (when not hidden by his mask's eyeholes) are gold, though this isn't their original colour. It seems to be a side effect of his magic.

ABILITIES:

Despite being human, a species normally unable to do magic, he has the power to resurrect dead animals. The spell only works if the animal died recently and their body is largely intact. Only the fatal damage is repaired, which sometimes leaves them crippled.

It is unknown if his magic fully restores the animals' minds. However, some of them seem to remember how they died, which can be a traumatic memory. They may also display erratic behaviour and disorientation.
