Terrandus Durziken

Backstory
  Terrandus grew up on a farm where vocal communication was rarely needed due to everyone being family on the same wavelength of one another. As a result, Terrandus tends towards nonverbal gestures and has even learned sign language, although he is still capable of speaking perfectly fine. After his father was killed by a pair of jumpy thieves, his mother made the decision to move to the capital of Olai, bringing a single farm animal with them and selling the others. There, he made friends with two young women, a guard named Saiyel and a mailcarrier named Sophietta, as well as finding another friend in a creature he named Keidei. On his 15th birthday, he got his first job as an apprentice to the city's more famous blacksmith, Kelendaan. In addition, he began taking light combat training geared towards self defense. Things were nice for a while, before he began to realize something.

  While most of the people in town were nice. Some of them seemed very nervous or tired. Even a couple of the guards seemed like they were run ragged. So he decided, one night, to stay up, peering out his window with his antenna slicked back. It was then that he discovered that the city was being haunted by the restless spirit of a past member of the guard involved in the city's darker past. With Sophietta's help, he is able to discover a primary survival tactic for those caught by it, easing the minds of those in the town. However, not long after the event, two people show up in town. A man in silver armor, and a woman in a dark, faded green cloak. After the two do battle, the cloaked figure being the victor, she asks Terrandus and Saiyel to accompany her to a temple not far from the city. It is there, Terrandus learns something life-changing.

Current Story
  The temple is home to the goddess of his people, the giant horned serpent Gaianyx. She bestows upon him and Saiyel three things: A quest, a direction, and a boon.
Their quest: Rally other "chosen" such as Terrandus, and their guardians such as Saiyel. The chosen are often those who exhibit qualities unlike others of their species. They may go with as many people as they wish, but She can only guarantee Terrandus and Saiyel would survive.
Their direction: Head towards the original location of Umbros, the fabled Veiled City.
Their boon: A mystical emerald, soulbound to Terrandus, to be taken to Kelendaan. He would know what to do with it. And know he did, setting it within a sword that, when drawn, summoned a suit of enchanted armor and shield in the likeness of Gaianyx that, when gazed into, will offer guidance.

And so, Terrandus and Saiyel were given provisions and a wagon to begin their journey.
