Physical Appearance: Stout and fluffy. He has narrow eyes that always seem to be squinting at the light. On the end of each of his 8 legs are two large claws. Klaus is almost always well composed.

Clothing: All of Klaus’ clothing has to be specially tailored, but he prefers to wear travel gear. Something professional looking, but with lots of pockets and other storage.

Expressions: Smug, angry, hungry

Personality

Likes: Caviar, money, control, hallucinogens, luxury goods

Dislikes: Heat, sweet food, animals, Kodin

Fears/Phobias:
Being forgotten

Klaus can be described as a narcissist. He’s selfish, and he likes to get his way. Only his feelings matter, and they matter above everything else. If he doesn’t like something or someone, he’ll do whatever he can to change or get rid of it. It doesn’t matter what it is or what importance it may have. Hell, just look at his hideout! He’s taken over an ancient relic of a temple and turned it into part of a drug cartel.

Klaus is very serious in nature. Anything and everything he does has a reason behind it; that reason is usually tied to his illegal trade. He won’t do things for fun, unless doing it somehow improves a relationship with a client. Other than his drugs, of course. He’s also very manipulative. Klaus loves proving someone wrong, or at least making them doubt themselves. It isn’t a game to him, rather it’s an exercise of control. He needs to make everyone around him understand he’s in charge.

Given the business he’s in, Klaus’ eyes have been opened up to the riches of the world. To him, there’s no going back from this. Klaus always has to have the best of the best, regardless of weather he needs it or weather it’s useful. A lot of the items he owns aren’t even things he likes; but they’re very expensive. If something is of a high quality, he’ll partake in it. “Cheap” is the same as “worthless” to Klaus. This mindset extends to people as well.

Abilities

Strengths: Mind control

Weaknesses: Drug habits, small size

Weapons/Tools: Caviar spoon

Klaus may be small, but he has a very powerful mana pool and he's mastered the magic of manipulation. Using dark magic Klaus is able to take control of ones mind, essentially turning them into a fiend temporarily. Generally speaking the more intelligent the target is the more difficult it is for Klaus to take control, but so long as he's only taking over one target he'll usually be able to do so without issue.

In addition to this Klaus has a powerful bite. His bite has the ability to drain one's life force and heal himself. It's a means of dark magic healing, as instead of healing his own injuries, they're simply transferred onto his target. Of course, this ability is only ever used as a last resort as it's extremely tiring and more often than not Klaus passes out shortly afterwards.

Health

Addictions: Hallucinogens

Mental Illnesses: Narcissistic personality disorder

Physical Illnesses: None

Disabilities: None

Allergies: None

Backstory

Klaus is one of Mirror Domain’s oldest living demons. He was summoned centuries ago, back when the practice of demon summoning had first been discovered. Luckily for him, his ability to take control over people’s bodies allowed him to escape his death sentence. The person who summoned him never saw it coming. Klaus was so small and weak looking. They hadn’t prepared for any sort of retaliation.

The world Klaus was forcefully brought into was hot, dry, and barren. For many years, he spent his time wandering the vast deserts in search of somewhere more habitable to live. Habital, and far away from any mortals. His survival was the only thing that mattered. Every day was long and boring, but it didn’t matter to him. As long as he stayed alive.

Mortals saw demons as pests. They weren’t living beings, they were commodities. Any demon summoned to this world was killed, butchered, and drained of its blood in order for mortals to consume them. Klaus resented mortals for this, seeing as they could easily butcher their own kind. How dare they summon him to this world just to kill him off! It was outrageous!

Eventually, Klaus found a place to seek refuge. It was an enormous mountain range that seemed to expand indefinitely. Of course, this was from the perspective of someone who’s half a foot tall. Regardless, the mountains were the perfect place to stay. Higher elevations brought on cooler weather and more places to hide. Mortals didn’t seem to be equipped to withstand this kind of environment, so they strayed away. It was perfect. It was his sanctuary.

As time went on, more and more demons began to make their way into the mountains. Klaus didn’t like it, but he reluctantly put up with the other demons. All of these demons shared a similar resentment towards mortals. With a common enemy, most of the demons in the mountains were able to co-exist peacefully. There were quarrels here and there, yes, but no demon slaughtered other demons the same way mortals did.

Klaus, as well as some of the more intelligent demons, began to realise that mortals were a serious issue. They’d slowly been making their way into the mountains to slaughter the few demons that managed to escape their grasp. In return, demons would leave the mountains in order to hunt mortals as revenge. Their species were at war, and if the proper precautions weren’t taken they’d eventually be killed off entirely.

Something had to be done about these mortals. These mountains were Klaus’ sanctuary. His home was being invaded, and he needed to put a stop to it. But Klaus couldn’t do it on his own. He was small, slow, and fragile. Yes, he had incredible abilities to counter these issues, but the risk was still there. So, Klaus sought out help. If he could get some of the bigger and stronger demons on his side, they could drive their enemy out of the mountains once and for all. He wouldn’t have to lift a finger if he could convince all the others to take care of the mortal problem for him.

Klaus began to recruit some of the others. Or at least, he tried to. These kinds of demons, the big and strong kind, didn’t want to put up with him. They saw no reason to take orders from someone as small and pathetic as him. It was infuriating, being tossed aside like that just because of his size. He had to find another way to get these idiots on his side. There had to be some way to take charge.

That’s when Klaus met a demon named Vira. Much like him, she didn’t seem all that strong. She was much larger than he was, but she was very thin and delicate looking. Like Klaus, Vira also had incredible power up her sleeve. She was smart, smarter than most of the other demons. With that intelligence came magic. Magic that far surpassed even mortals’. Vira agreed with Klaus’ viewpoint. The mortals of this world were driving their kind to extinction. If they weren’t kept out of the mountains, they’d all be killed.

Still, no one else took the pair seriously. The two knew they had to make an example of the other demons in order to gain any kind of respect. That’s just how the demon hierarchy worked; the biggest and strongest came out on top. They definitely weren’t the biggest demons around, but with their combined abilities and intellect they had the potential of being the strongest. They just had to prove it.

That’s where their first plan came into play. They’d taken time to track down the top dogs of the demon world, and they’d made a plan to kill them off. The mountain range was huge. A task such as this could take months to accomplish, but they pushed on regardless. One by one, the demons in charge of things were brought down. Klaus and Vira’s rule was beginning.

As time went on and their reputation began to spread, more demons began joining their group. Most of them were followers; demons that bent to their will in hopes of staying alive. Klaus relished in this. Having servants bending over backwards to please him was enjoyable. He liked bossing “lesser” demons around, and he liked the fear in their eyes whenever they made the smallest mistake. He was the boss. King. God, perhaps. Whatever he was, he liked it.

Some of these demons proved themselves to be valuable allies. Every now and then Klaus and Vira would encounter a demon too smart to be pushed around. They were also too smart to be eliminated. Many of them brought valuable skills to the table, whether that was magic, tools, or ideas. So, the pair let these chosen few join their ranks. What was once a pair turned into a trio, and the newfound demon government only expanded from there.

The group was soon known as “The Ministry of Demons”. Their goal was simple: Keeping mortals away from the mountains. Furthering their own survival in this world. Anyone and anything that became a threat to their survival would immediately be stopped, by any means necessary. Mortal, demon, it didn’t matter. If it got in their way, it’d be destroyed. For many years, the Ministry ruled over the mountain range with an iron fist. No one dared to defy them. Their word was law, and everyone knew it.

As the years went on, Klaus began to realise something. The Ministry’s goals were beginning to shift. What started as a means of controlling other demons in order to keep themselves alive turned into, well, an actual government. With an agenda. The rest of the Ministry had an ever growing hatred towards mortals, and they were beginning to get more and more aggressive towards them.

The Ministry was making their actions out to be nobil. Slaughtering mortals to keep demons safe. Keeping them away from their territory. Why should they stop at this mountain range? Why not make the entirety of Mirror Domain a safe haven for demon kind? The group was beginning to start an all out war against mortals, and their followers seemed all for it.

The group began sending scouts out into uncharted territory in hopes of finding any and all stray demons. They were building up an army, and Klaus hated it. Klaus didn’t start this group to start wars. If anything, he started this group so there’d be less work for him to deal with. He didn’t want the responsibility of organizing a war; he wanted a group of lackeys to bend to his will and make his life easier. There was no nobility behind any of his actions, yet that’s all the Ministry claimed.

There was a divide between Klaus and the Ministry, and everyone knew it. Klaus’ selfish nature began to come to light. Everyone else had deluded themselves into thinking what they were doing was for the good of all demons, but Klaus’ modivations had stayed the same. The Ministry was turning into a group of hypocrites, and it made Klaus furious. Nothing they did was nobil. They hated mortals, and they wanted the others to get rid of them for them. They were just as selfish as Klaus, but Klaus was the only one getting in trouble for it.

Something had to be done about the Ministry before this war began. It wasn’t too late to remind everyone of his power. Klaus still had the ability to regain control, he just needed a plan. Some way to prove to everyone once and for all that he was in charge. The Ministry would have never gotten started if it weren’t for him, and he had to remind everyone of that fact. This should have never turned into a group effort. He, and he alone started this group. It wasn’t a partnership. The others should be treating his word as law, as the other demons once did.

Eventually, Klaus hit a breaking point. They’d pushed him too far, and now they had to be made an example of. In the dead of night, while the rest of the Ministry was asleep, Klaus struck. He used his power to take control of one of the sleeping demons. Normally, he’d never be able to fully control a creature like this; but a sleeping creature can’t fight back. With this demon under his control, Klaus used it’s far more powerful abilities to attack the other members of the Ministry.

His attack started off successfully. Almost immediately he took two of its members down. Once everyone realised what was going on, however, things began to go downhill. Even with two of them down, Klaus was outnumbered. The remaining Ministry members were far more powerful than the demon he’d been controlling. They began to wear him and his host down. If he didn’t bail out now, he’d be killed.

Just as they were about to take him down, Klaus bailed on this demon. It was too late to stop the attack, and a third member of the Ministry was taken down; this time by their own allies. With that, Klaus fled. The mountains were no longer a sanctuary, they were a warzone. He had turned into the enemy, and there was no doubt the Ministry would have their army hunt him down. Klaus needed to disappear, and that’s exactly what he did.

Mirror Domain was an enormous place, and Klaus was a little creature. Falling off the face of the realm was a cakewalk. Once he was out of the mountains there was really no reliable way to track him down. Even if they did manage to find him they wouldn’t have him for long. His powers would allow him to get away, and he’d once again fade into obscurity.

The only problem was, Klaus didn’t want to fade away. He wanted power. Status. His own army of servants to bend to his every whim. Most importantly, revenge on those who’d defied him. Staying on the down low worked for many years, but now it was time to make a name for himself. His comeback would strike fear into demon kind as a whole! He’d make them regret the day they turned against his word.

While he had held resentment for them for many years, Klaus decided to take refuge amongst mortals. They were both enemies of demon kind, and Klaus used that to his advantage. Making intelligent creatures bend to his will while using his powers was always difficult, but it was easier to will someone into something if they both had similar goals. Him hiding amongst mortals kept the other demons away, as well as opening his eyes to a world of new possibilities.

Mortals had always had an affinity to mirrors, but until now Klaus never knew why. Apparently, mirrors could be used to travel a vast amount of distance in a very short time. Mirrors acted as portals, connecting to any and all other existing mirrors. This could potentially allow someone to travel across Mirror Domain with ease. The possibilities seemed endless.

Mirror Domain was largely made up of uninhabitable deserts. With no food, water, or other resources for days on end, travel was almost impossible. This made it harder for countries to trade and share resources without taking large risks. It’s not that mortals didn’t have trade routes, but these routes were dangerous. There was a lot of risk involved, which only slowed things down even more.

With the use of mirrors, travel became a cakewalk. What was once a several week journey turned into a 30 minute walk. Klaus could take advantage of this to make a considerable profit. He’d be able to move goods faster than any other established trade route, giving him a heavy advantage over everyone else. The faster he could move items, the more money he’d make. Mortals may have a distaste for demons, but Klaus could look past it in order to gain access to the many creature comforts mortal society brought to the table.

The only issue was, mirror travel was illegal. At least, it was to mortals. If he was caught using mirrors like this, he’d no doubt be executed. Still, even if he was caught, he could always use the mirrors to make a quick escape. No mortal would dare follow him through the mirror plane, even if they were trying to catch him. Following him would only put them at risk. People were known to seemingly vanish if they stayed in the Mirror Plane for too long, which is what deterred them from using mirrors in the first place.

Finally, Klaus began to plan out his new trade empire. He began by taking notes about the resources each country had, and the resources they lacked. In doing so, he was able to map out his own trade routes and begin moving items from place to place. Considering his small stature, he wasn’t able to move that much merchandise. It could take up to two hours to get a bottle of water from one city to the next, and the amount of money he’d make off of it wasn’t worth the effort. On top of that, many people would rather pay more to get these items in a more legal way.

Klaus did all he could to combat these issues. He began using his powers to take control of people in hopes of moving more merchandise faster, but even then most of his efforts were in vain. The constant exercise of his power made controlling intelligent beings far easier, but it was still too much of a hassle to be worth it. Plus, he could only control one creature at a time. Even if his host was larger he wasn’t moving items fast enough.

As much as he didn’t want to admit it, Klaus couldn’t do this on his own. He needed help, and he needed it fast. Of course, an intelligent creature would be too much of a hassle to deal with. What happened with the Ministry couldn’t be allowed to happen again. Klaus needed someone or something below him in terms of intelligence. Something he could easily control, whether he was using his powers or not. It was just a matter of finding such a creature.

One day, while traversing the Mirror Plane, Klaus got turned around. The Mirror Plane is an extremely dangerous place, and getting lost was a common occurrence. There was nothing to see other than an endless white void, making travel difficult. Getting lost wasn’t ideal. People had been known to disappear in the Mirror Plane, and Klaus didn’t want to be one of them.

That’s when he saw something off in the distance. It appeared to be a tall building made out of portals. Most portals were two dimensional, but this place seemed as real as any other building. Odd, considering buildings couldn’t be placed in the Mirror Plane. He didn’t know what this temple of portals was or where it was located, but he’d already been in this plane for too long. If he didn’t exit now, he’d be putting himself at risk. So, despite the possible dangers lurking on the other side of these portals, Klaus stepped through them.

On the other side of the portals was something Klaus had never seen before. It was an enormous temple made of white marble and completely lined with mirrors. More mirrors than Klaus had ever seen in one place. It was incredible! He hadn't seen any portals for miles, and suddenly he was at mirror central! Seeing this temple gave Klaus a lot of ideas. It’s shape was recognizable, even from within the Mirror Plane. It made for the perfect base for his operation, so long as it was empty. There was a good chance this place was built by mortals, meaning there’d probably be a settlement nearby.

The land around the mirror temple was flat and empty. Nothing but sand for miles. No plants, no water. Hell, there weren’t even any rocks or sticks. Just clear sand and blue skies, with this enormous temple in the center of it all. Looking inside, Klaus couldn’t find any signs of life either. Mortal or demon. The entire place was seemingly empty, save for a few decorative rugs and several more mirrors.

Klaus began to use this temple as his base of operations. Over the next few weeks he began to stockpile valuables within the temple. Having a large supply of items would make it easier to transport them. He wouldn’t have to worry about finding something on a tight deadline since he’d already have his entire stock in one place. Everything seemed to be going great for Klaus. Of course, the matter of finding help was still lingering in the back of his mind.

He was pretty lacking in options when it came to finding help. Klaus had to tread lightly. Mortals were out of the question when it came to his trade. As flimsy as Mortal's morals could be at times he knew for a fact no mortal in their right mind would dare step foot in the Mirror Plane. Not even the baddest of criminals would touch a mirror with a 10 foot pole. Animals were always an option, but their lack of intelligence made them a liability. Something like a horse would be easy to take control of, but he couldn’t be in control 100% of the time. It’d have to be free every now and then, and that’s exactly when things could go wrong.

No matter how he rationalized it, Mortals just weren’t a viable option. It had to be another demon, but demons weren’t trustworthy. He had to find someone he could control. Someone smart enough to listen and follow orders but damaged enough to bend to his will. Someone so specific would be almost impossible to find, but Klaus was determined. His empire was expanding steadily and he wasn’t about to let his progress plateau.  Of course, this search would eventually fade into the background as more work picked up. If there was one thing Klaus didn’t want, it was for his business to suffer while he was out searching for help.

As Klaus’ business grew so did his list of contacts. Information wasn’t scarce, that was for sure. Not only could he be anywhere in the world in a matter of hours, but he had a vast client base with all sorts of backgrounds, experiences, and local knowledge. It just so happened that while out on usual rounds Klaus caught wind of another faction of demons. A group known as the “Shadow Band” which seemed to be hellbent on overthrowing the Ministry of Demons once and for all.

Life was good, but there was still one thing Klaus had yet to do. It’d been years, but Klaus still wanted to take down the Ministry as well. He’d been hiding in the shadows for far too long. That being said, he hadn’t checked up on anyone from his past in decades. A lot can change in just one year, let alone tens of them. If he really was going to plan something as brash as this he had to come prepared. So, upon learning of the Shadow Band he decided to extend an olive branch, so to speak. If he could get on these demons' good side for at least a little while, they may be able to form a temporary alliance to take down the Ministry.

Not surprisingly, this faction didn’t take too kindly to Klaus’ presence. He had no allegiance to anyone, and no history of playing nice. The world knew the name Klaus Wicker and the stigma that came with it. Klaus was a lone wolf who did what he wanted, when he wanted, and how he wanted it. The Shadow Band saw no benefit to teaming up with him. They weren’t interested in his money and they had no use for his influence in the world of mortals.

It wasn’t the outcome he’d been hoping for, but Klaus had more than one trick up his sleeve. He still had the ability to take control over one's actions. If the Shadow Band wasn’t going to listen to him directly they were going to listen to his ideas through the mouth of one of their own. That way they’d be playing right into his hands without even knowing it. Ideally they’d have listened to his proposal, but it seemed he had to take the more difficult route. Not like it’d be the first time, though. You don’t get to a position like his by taking the easy way out.

After a week or so of passively feeding these demons his knowledge of the Ministry and its inner workings, the group saddled up and began the long trek into the mountains. Klaus tagged along for this, of course. If his ideas were going to be the thing to finally destroy the Ministry of Demons once and for all, he wanted to be there to witness it firsthand! This could be history in the making! The future of demon kind could be changed right here and now, and he wanted to have a firsthand account of it all.

The demons of the mountains almost immediately fled as this faction began storming the Ministry’s territory. No one there had expected such a large group to come barreling in out of nowhere. None of the lesser demons in the area dared challenge the group, and those that did were quickly exterminated. The Ministry’s underlings couldn’t do much to save them. It was just as Klaus expected. He knew for a fact they viewed their patrol as expendable, and as a result they’d never bothered with any sort of vetting process. It was quantity over quality, and that clearly wasn’t good enough to keep a threat like this away. Soon enough they’d rid the mountainside of these lesser grunts and were off to challenge the Ministry head on!

The only problem was, the Ministry had changed their base of operations. It’d been years since Klaus had last been there, so it’s not like this was unexpected. Still, the longer they were there, the more time the Ministry had to make preparations. They had to find them quick, otherwise they may still lose the fight. The Shadow Band may be mighty in numbers, but they lacked the powerful magic that made Ministry members so widely feared. The element of surprise was the only upper hand they had.

That’s when they spotted them. A few members of the Ministry were making their way up the hill, carrying another demon with them. She seemed to be unconscious and tied up, leading Klaus to believe she was an enemy of the Ministry as well. Still, this other demon could be dealt with later. Now was the time for action. Before they got the chance to ready an attack, Klaus took control of one of the Shadow Band and struck. The surprise attack caught the group off guard, and one of them began shouting orders at the rest.

The demon in charge made it very clear that the rest of the group were to take their captive and run. Whoever this demon was, they were extremely valuable to the Ministry, making her extremely valuable to Klaus. Plus, freeing their captive would only add to his revenge plot. So, as the all out war between the Ministry and the Shadow Band began he turned his focus to getting his hands on this captive. Or at least, he tried to. The demon leading the group possessed powerful magic; magic Klaus had never seen before. One blast of magic was enough to stun him just by being in the vicinity. Klaus could feel a searing hot pain in his side. He’d have to act fast, otherwise he may get caught up in all the chaos.

At some point during the battle the entire group got split up. There were blasts of magic everywhere, large chunks of land being torn up, tremors from the fight. It sent everyone in the area into a panic. Klaus could feel his fear rising, making it harder to stay focused. This plan was not as well thought out as Klaus had first thought. In fact, it hadn’t been thought out at all. Klaus no longer knew his adversaries personally, putting him at a heavy disadvantage. It was time to retreat. Surely the Shadow Band had this handled, and if they didn’t Klaus had no problem leaving them to die.

During their retreat Klaus did notice one thing. The captive the Ministry had had had disappeared. As they were running back to the mirror they’d entered through, he could hear them shouting about how they needed to get her back. Klaus desperately wanted to know why this seemingly average demon was so damn valuable. From what he knew about the Ministry, it could be anything from powerful magic to valuable information. Whatever it was, he wanted it for himself.

So, his next goal was to find this demon and bring her in for questioning. Perhaps he could gain a new ally out of it too. He didn’t want a repeat of what happened with the Ministry, but this time he had experience on his side. If push came to shove, Klaus could take control of their body and kill anyone who defied him. If this demon became hostile, he’d just kill her and move on with his plans.

Hunting this demon down took years. Sure, finding her was more or less put on the backburner while he continued his trade, but she proved to be even more elusive than Klaus was. Klaus took to trailing the Ministry in order to find this demon. Despite their efforts it didn’t seem the Shadow Band was able to finish them off. If anything he’d started what would later turn into an all out war between the two factions of Demons. Not that that was a bad thing in his eyes. The Ministry had been left unchallenged for far too long. It was about time someone took a stand, even if that somebody wasn’t him.

As time went on and his hunt continued, he learned more and more about his target. Her name was Fennel, and the Ministry wanted her because of her vast amount of knowledge on mortals. She’d spent her entire life living amongst them. For the longest time she’d been a pretty highly renowned professor at a university in Laiden, and the Ministry wanted to use her knowledge in order to advance their own society and vanquish mortals once and for all.

Her knowledge on mortals was alluring, and Klaus wanted her on his side more than ever. Fennel could blend in with mortals. She could help him with his trade more or less undetected. On top of all that, she was a reasonable size, meaning there was no risk of her getting crushed or crushing anything herself. A demon such as Fennel was exactly what Klaus needed for his operation. Someone desperate enough to do whatever it took to escape the Ministry’s grasp yet still intelligent enough to follow orders. She’d be the perfect fit for his operation, so long as he could catch her.

Finally, after years had gone by, Klaus had found her. It was seemingly a stroke of luck, as Klaus had largely given up on the hunt. He had been doing his usual rounds when he noticed a pair of demons running by. Both of them were familiar. One was Fennel, and the other was a demon named Alder; the leader of the small group he had attacked years prior. The Ministry was still on the hunt, and Fennel was almost in their grasp. He had to put a stop to it.

There was one problem, however. This chase was taking place in town. A mortal settlement. Klaus had always kept his dealings in private. He never made a show of anything. All of his work was done in the shadows away from the public eye. Alder seemed to be taking a different approach to this; forcing Fennel to do so as well. He didn’t seem all too concerned with sticking to the shadows. He wanted Fennel, and he was going to do whatever it took to get her back regardless of who saw. Klaus couldn’t just barge in and get involved with this wild goose chase. Mortals would intervene, and then they’d all be at risk.

That’s when it hit him. As much as the Ministry wanted Fennel, they wanted Klaus more. He could get Alder’s attention, drive him away from Fennel, lose him, and then lead Fennel out of town. It wasn’t the most well thought out plan, but it was all he had. He’d waited too long for this, so he had to act fast. His plan worked beautifully, at first. Losing Alder was simple, seeing as Klaus was so small. Problems only began to arise when Klaus was actually trying to lead Fennel away.

Fennel was a bit odd, to say the least. At first Klaus thought she was just shaken up from the encounter, but it became clear than panic was more or less her natural state. She was constantly looking around for signs of danger, jumping at noises, and mumbling unintelligible things to herself. This hardly seemed like someone of value to the Ministry. She was completely insane! Still, he had to know for sure. Crazy people aren’t inherently unintelligent. Surely she had something of value if the Ministry carried on their hunt for this long.

In order to get her away, Klaus gave Fennel an ultimatum. She had to come with him, or he’d turn her in to the Ministry. This seemed to work, as Fennel immediately began to plead for Klaus not to turn her in. She couldn’t go with them. They’d do horrible things to her! Blah blah blah. She continued to ramble for the rest of the walk, only stopping her rant to start another rant about how terrifying Klaus was and how dare he lead her here just to kill her. Where she got that idea Klaus had no clue. But hey, she was insane. Klaus really didn’t care.

Eventually the three made their way away from the city and off to a remote part of Mirror Domain by the oil oceans. Almost nothing lived out here, making it the perfect place to talk. He would have brought Fennel back to the Mirror Temple, but he didn’t know if she was trustworthy yet. He didn’t want anyone untrustworthy in his sanctuary.

The two talked for a while. Klaus learned that Fennel was in fact very knowledgeable on mortal society, but also that she was extremely paranoid and superstitious. Fennel knew three languages, customs of several different kingdoms, what species liked who, and much much more. All of this was new information to Klaus, and all of it was extremely valuable.

So, Klaus made Fennel an offer. If she joined him in his work, he’d offer her protection from the Ministry and anyone else that may be after her. She seemed interested, but still refused without explanation. Klaus couldn’t see any reason why she was refusing. Anything she said as a response was vague or cryptic, as if she were deliberately hiding something. Klaus was starting to get sick of it. She seemed to want his protection, but something in her scrambled mind was telling her not to.

He’d hit a breaking point. After all the things he’d done for her, he deserved this. If it weren’t for him, she would have never escaped the Ministry in the first place! So, his offer once again turned into a threat. She’d either join him, or be handed over to the Ministry. Same as before, this terrified her and same as before, this got her to finally accept his offer.

With Fennel’s help, Klaus was able to completely restructure his operation. She had ideas, and those ideas proved to be extremely useful despite how insane they sounded at times. They were able to expand their client base with Fennel’s language knowledge, and the Crew now had a second hideout to store their merchandise because of Fennel’s house. These new changes slowly began to net them even more money.

Still, things weren’t perfect. Fennel seemed almost intentionally incompetant when it came to field work. Constantly tripping on things, getting caught by guards, getting attacked. The list went on. Something was definitely up with her, and he needed to know what. Her life was in his hands, he was entitled to this information. Fennel seemed reluctant to tell him what was going on, but with a little extra motivation from threats of the Ministry she spilled her guts.

As it turns out, Fennel was cursed. The Ministry had put this curse on her to prevent her from getting away, and that curse is why she seemed to be so incompitant at her job. This made Klaus angry. He had saved her sorry skin and she had the audacity to hide something like this from him? This could get them all killed if they didn’t take the proper precautions!

After telling him about this curse, Fennel became more distant and put off. Her loyalty had always been in question, but now Klaus was actively looking for a replacement. Yes, Fennel’s language skills and mortal knowledge was very useful, but the curse was a huge setback. It’d be easier to find a suitable replacement than it would be to cure Fennel. But a replacement did not come easy. At this point, the Ministry had ruled over demon kind for several hundred years and their ideals had infected demon culture. No one dared defy their rule. Sure, there was a rogue demon here and there, but those demons didn’t want to go against the Ministry’s rule, they wanted to disappear. It was starting to get hopeless, at least for Klaus.

Fennel had heard Klaus was thinking of replacing her, and she’d been trying to do everything she could to convince him otherwise. She needed Klaus’ protection, and she’d do anything in her power to keep it. Klaus enjoyed this. It reminded him of his younger years, back when he was bossing lesser demons around during his time in the Ministry. It fed his ego. This demon’s life was in his hands. At any moment he could cut her loose and let her crash and burn on her own, and she knew this.

As much as he wanted someone better, someone without a curse, Klaus also knew that everyone in his crew had to be completely under his control. With the knowledge of her curse he had Fennel in a bind. Ditching her would only bring him down more. They could find a workaround for her curse-related happenings. Klaus would never be able to control anyone as smart as Fennel like this on his own, not as things currently stood. So, Fennel stayed. She was too valuable to let go.

Time passed, and Klaus and his small band of criminals began to gain traction in Mirror Domain’s underground. Their faces were beginning to get recognised. They were gaining better clients due to their reputation. Most importantly, they were making more money. The only problem that came with their reputation was demand. More clients meant more work; work that three demons couldn’t do on their own. If they carried things out like this their reputation would go down. Things would grind to a halt, and eventually they’d all crash and burn.

The operation had to expand. There was a demand for Klaus’ products, both legal and illegal. He’d started out just peddling water and other necessities, but now he had access to so much more. Mirrors, drugs, enchanted items. He needed more lackeys to manage inventory. Someone to manage finances. Someone unknown to the public eye that wouldn’t draw attention to the Crew’s actions. He needed to get more people in on this.

Still, Klaus had to make sure he had leverage over anyone and everyone he hired on. What was happening now was suspiciously similar to what had happened with the Ministry in the past. If he didn’t learn from his mistakes and do things differently, he’d end up in the same exact situation he was in before. That wasn’t going to happen this time. Klaus was going to make sure of it. He would expand his trade empire, and he’d do it right. It was just a matter of finding the right people.

Relationships

Fennel Salix

While he finds her constant state of panic and never ending stream of paranoia fueled conspiracies irritating, Klaus finds Fennel to be the most trustworthy and valuable member of his crew. When she’s actually calm, he enjoys her company. She’s smart, and a lot of the time she has really good ideas; although he’d never admit that. Half the time, he takes credit for Fennel’s ideas and makes her think he was the one to come up with them in the first place.

Because of Fennel’s various underlying mental issues, as well as her curse, Klaus has taken to threatening her in order to ensure her cooperation. She’s valuable. Without her, Klaus would lose half his client base. Maybe more. Fennel is very easy to manipulate, so getting her to stick around is easy. Still, he constantly exercises his control over her.

Alice Spades

Klaus and Spades’ relationship is strictly professional. He finds her addictions to be detrimental to his operation, causing some resentment. Her tendency to steal money and product from the crew is also a major issue. If it weren’t for her luck and her ability to negotiate, he would have killed her by now. She’s also extremely good with numbers; something Klaus doesn’t want to deal with.

Spades is Klaus’ biggest source of irritation. She hates taking orders and often makes sudden changes in plans, if she doesn’t abandon them all together. She’s also extremely hard to manipulate, and has an ego almost as big as his own. They’re an unstoppable force vs an immovable object. If they didn’t share the same goals, they’d more or less be enemies.

Trivia

Creation date: February 16th 2019

Alignment: Chaotic Evil

Voice Claim: Plagg: Miraculous Ladybug

Other: Klaus was created after being a recurring theme in my dreams. I kept being tormented by spiders so I figured I might as well. The only thing that changed from my dream was his gender, since I needed more male characters. Design and personality stayed the same.
