PERSONALITY
Francis has a commanding presence which when paired with Resting Bitch Face makes Francis seem more intimidating than he actually is. It's something he's fully aware of this and often utilizes.
Relatively deadpan so it can be hard to read him (you'll probably have more luck trying to read a stone). Trick is to watch his micro-expressions and listen for really subtle shifts in his tone of voice.
Francis is an impulsive, opportunistic and success driven strategic thinker who enjoys a challenge.
He's also easily bored. Factoring in the above traits results in a tendency to go for high stake prizes.
Walking supercomputer, Francis can quickly analyze a situation by running simulations in his head.
He likes order and precision and he can be pedantic and anal (more prominent when he's stressed).
Can read people like a book; he's good at figuring out motives why people are acting off. Plotting mutiny? Francis knows already. Need the toilet? Francis probably knows that too.
As someone who values honesty, Francis is very blunt and direct.
However he lacks tact and can come off as insensitive.

- LIKES RED WINE It's something Francis is very fond of. Put bluntly, Francis is a shameless wino and doesn't try to hide it.
- DISLIKES BEING SUBMirged in water Francis can't swim so it freaks him out. Feels out of his depth in waist-high water.
- HOBBY IS playing piano Finds it soothing and nostalgic but he doesn't get to indulge often and misses it when he can't play.
HABITS
- DOWNPLAYS HIS KNEE INJURY Doesn't like to admit how much it's impacted his mobility and has overdone it several times.
- social drinker Though he usually only drinks in moderation, Francis will take any excuse to get a good wine out.
- likes precision Drills his crew a lot because there's always room for improvement and one day it might give them an edge.
TRIVIA
- Commands HMS Legacy, a 5th Rate frigate. Obtained the command in May 1802. His primary role is channel patrol and disrupting enemy shipping with occasional use as a scout/escort ship
- Francis was injured by a 2ft splinter in close action in September 1803. The wound never healed properly so he now has iffy balance on his left side and a permanent limp which makes his gait appear mechanical and lumpy. He can move quickly with the limp, even run in short bursts but he can't maintain a fast pace over long distance. The injury does at times force him to walk with a cane but he'd prefer not to. As someone who used to love running (and would be into marathons in a present day setting) it aggravates Francis endlessly and he has overdone it several times.
- He's absolutely hopeless at putting names to faces. It can (and does) get awkward for him.
- He's a half decent pianist. When Francis was growing up his father taught him how to play. He remembers a lot of it very well and does like to play when the opportunity to do so presents it's self. He doesn't get to practice that often so he's often a bit rusty and occasionally slips chords.
- Wicked chess player, tactical games suit Francis well. Yet he's absolutely hopeless at Whist, even with Archie tutoring him.
- Prone to seasickness. The irony of it would be funny if it wasn't so damn embarrassing.
- Has a really terrible sense of humor, it's very dry and very British. He loves (bad) puns, Dad joke extraordinaire.
- Because Francis can't swim his fears are all linked to drowning such as falling into a body of water he can't stand up in, getting washed overboard or his ship getting wrecked. Even deep bodies of water he can stand up in make him feel really uncomfortable and panicky.
