Research
The thing that Bell excels at the most is definitley research, as long as she has some interest in what she's researching. She will find every way she can to learn more about a subject, and synthesize all the information in her brain (or write it down, if asked to do so).
Archaeology
Ever since she was a child, she wanted to be an archaeologist. Lucky for her, she picked it up easily and with great talent, in large part because of her absolute passion and dedication. She knows many tricks of the trade and knows ways to research places to dig, despite being quite new.
Combat Skills
Martial Arts
Bell has been trained in martial arts, and she finds it a good way to channel all her energy. It's also an art and a science, and something that has lots of cultural ties to various cultures, so she can learn about them and already have a connection.
Story
Bell strongly believes that the past doesn’t deserve to be forgotten. That it should be kept in mind. That it helps us know more about ourselves to know about the past. She enjoys knowledge in all its forms, but she's bad at people.
Childhood
Bell was born in a small town as the only child of her half-elf mother and her human father. She was a wild little girl, constantly running around the backyard, digging holes in the dirt, and collecting rocks that looked like they meant something. When she was almost twelve, her father got a job at a university in the large city of Ridosia, as a professor and researcher for archaeologists. Bell was absolutely fascinated by anything having to do with archaeology, and so at age 14 she started seriously studying it. Her most notable friend during her training was a human girl named Maidie, and they became inseparable friends. By 18, Bell was ready to participate in smaller, more casual digs.
The Dig
When she was 19, Bell finally had the opportunity to go on a larger, more involved dig. On some mountains near the Silver heights were some graves that needed to be fully unearthed and studied, and so a group was put together: their teacher and mentor Morrik, four more experienced archaeologists, and Bell and Maidie as the resident trainees. The dig had the casual support of a nearby monastery, who appreciated being made aware of their presence and looked forward to learning what the graves were.
On only the third night, disaster struck. Bell didn't know if it was natural or magical, but there was an earthquake. The land cracked and opened into fissures, and most of the dig site and the camp went down. Bell woke up covered in rubble, half-trapped in a crack in the fissure by rocks and her own tent. It was lucky that the monastery had known of their presence, because after the earthquake they went to check on the dig site to see what had happened. As far as Bell knows, she's the only one that made it out alive, because the ascetics only found her.
The Monastery
The monastery itself was not a rigid one, and it was a collection of mostly philosophers and scholars who, generally speaking, worshipped gods of knowledge. They believed that they should be well-rounded people, well-versed in combat, art, and philosophy alike, and valued self-discovery.
The first friend Bell made there was Ida, one of the people who took care of her as she needed to heal. But even once she recovered, Bell couldn't find it in her to return to the city immediately, so she decided to stay at the monastery, writing letters to her parents every so often. She stayed a total of five years, longer than she expected, but she enjoyed the way they valued knowledge, and she learned martial arts from them. Bell had a mentor for this, Lyanna, who she admired in a similar way to how she had admired Morrik. She made two more close friends, the casual Derrill and the philosopher Carina, and during her last year and a half Bell and Carina were in a relationship.
Adventuring Heart
Bell broke it off with Carina on amicable terms, but she realized that for a while now she'd had a wanderlust that she couldn't calm unless she went exploring by herself. She wanted practical experience, because pretty much her entire life she'd been doing things mostly in the theoretical, and perhaps someone out there would know exactly what happened that day at the dig. She herself couldn't return there, not at the moment, and she knew that. But perhaps eventually. Bell sees the monastery now as a place that was a valuable resource and important for her, but she knew she wouldn't have enjoyed staying there for any longer.
A year and a half later, she's enjoyed adventuring, and especially loves taking any jobs that take her to old places or ruins.
Trivia
Fun Facts
- Bell's favorites are:
- blue for color
- anything spicy for food
- Her weapon of choice is a khopesh.
- Her nickname 'Bell' is a playful one from her mom, because as a child Bell was “bright, but also very loud.”
- Her favorite language to read in is Draconic, because it's so old and the one many interesting texts are written in.
Conditions
ADHD. Bell is very energetic and hyperactive, often undersstimulated and, especially, always needs to be moving to get her energy out. She has a bad time concentrating on things she's not interested in, and sometimes in things she is.
Autism. Bell is overly blunt in social situations and has never been able to figure out when it's her turn and when it isn't to keep talking, so to be on the safe side, she usually keeps talking until someone stops her. She's bad at regulating her tone, but she's much less loud as an adult than when she was a child. Eye contact is very hard for her, but she's managed to fake it so people don't notice. She really likes routines and when she gets obsessed with something, she finds every way possible to find out as much as she can about it.
