Yui Kagami

Yui Kagami, also known as the Hidden Hero: Veil, is a student in Class 1-A at U.A. High School, training to become a Pro-Hero alongside his childhood friends.

Appearance

Having a Mutation Quirk, some of Yui's appearance is altered by his power. While he majorly has the look of an average person, he sports a curled chameleon tail of about 4-5 feet that is green with two teal blue stripes close to his body, and the rest of his stripes a pastel yellow. His hair is mostly lime green with the edges of it being a darker leaf green. He wears it in a low ponytail, pushed over his right shoulder and parts his bangs above his left eye, with some of them hiding his right eye completely. His eyes are gold in color, even seeming to have some sort of shine to them.

Personality

Anyone who meets Yui knows a good deal of his personality right off the bat....mostly because he clams up instantly. He is an extremely shy person when it comes to large groups of people or generally just new people. He'll hide his face either with his hair or putting it into whatever he's reading. Alongside this, its also easy to fluster him, most time causing him to get so embarrassed he'll use his quirk to disappear and run away. However, this is part of him slowly melts away the longer you know him and a completely person is beneath it.

If you're able to break through this (such as his childhood friends), Yui can actually be rather blunt (especially in things such as advice), not liking to beat around the bush on subjects. He's easily the best person to talk to if you need to know something, not hear what you want to hear...that is, if you've gotten through his shy exterior. Though of course the easily flustered piece still sticks no matter what stage of friendship you have with him. He's also known to be rather intelligent, being on the higher end of the class grades, usually seen studying, doing homework, or reading in even his spare time.

When it comes to his friends (and his classmates eventually), he always tries to be there for them, whether its in comfort or being the voice of reason. Those that have gotten close to him are his everything, wanting nothing more than to protect them and cherish them.

History

Yui is unaware of the family he had before the one he was adopted into. It was very obvious to him that he was adopted and was brought into his current family long before he could remember. With his quirk, and his parents both being quirkless, there was no hiding it or beating around the bush about it. But Yui was never made to feel out of place within his home or within their eyes. Extremely cared for and loved, supported, everything a kid could want, they made it clear the three of them were family and that was all that mattered to him growing up. So his home life was incredibly well off for most of his life.

At a young age, Hell he can barely even remember when anymore, he gained two of the closest and best friends he could have asked for, the two eventually becoming like little sisters to him; Mei and Ere. They never mined his shy nature, nor his more blunt nature as they all had gotten older, and the three of them all cared for each other. Despite the playful fights picked between he and Mei, he wouldnt have it any other way. The three all lived in the same neighborhood together, played together, and attended the same schools together, from kindergarten all the way to middle school. It was in their last year of middle school that Yui began to truly panic about his future. Ere's parents were heroes, and thus she was dedicated and determined to be a hero and attend UA, alongside Mei who had that same want as well. He, however, struggled almost the entire year about even the THOUGHT of trying to attend UA. His confidence wavered a lot over it, wondering if he even had it in him to try. What would he even do or be as a hero? What COULD he do? Would it be more embarrassing to try and get in only into one of the other courses? Or just not try at all? It wasn't until closer to the time that studying for the entrance exam came that he was swayed by Ere and Mei to give it a shot. Not that he had his hopes set too high.

However, to his surprise, Yui ended up not only being accepted to UA, but being placed in the 1-A hero course alongside his two childhood friends. He'll be the first to admit that his time there in the class has been a constant struggle, despite being high in the academic portion, he feels very lacking in that of the actual hero course. An issue that plagues at his confidence constantly, despite being hyped up and supported by his friends. It wasn't until it came time for the hero ID test that he finally came to an idea of just WHY he wanted to be a hero. Of course every kid wanted to be one, but he never truly pin pointed his own. That reason became his parents. Quirkless, powerless, just normal people, they had accepted him in and pushed him to do his best. They supported his path to heroism and did anything they could to make him feel like he could do anything. He wanted to be a hero to protect people like them, the good people with no or very little power of their own that needed that protecting. While he still has that shyness, flustered nature, and working on his levels of confidence, he strives to become a hero his parents can be proud of and be the type of person he knows he can be.

Abilities

Quirk

Chameleon: The Chameleon Quirk gives Yui the abilities and physical attributes like that of a chameleon. He has a long, curled tail reminiscent of a chameleons that can be used to grip onto things. He has a great deal of strength in his tail so he can hang from places with it, even when adding a great deal of weight. This grip also translates to his hands, legs, and feet, able to hold on for long periods of time and with up to triple his own weight. He also has the ability to move his eyes independently of each other if he so wishes. This allows him to scout out areas or keep a look out from multiple directions.

The major part of his Quirk, however, is his ability to camouflage. Just as a chameleon can, Yui is able to blend into the area around him as long as he knows the look of it, his body able to go invisible, unseen, and hide. However, when hiding using this technique, he is still a mass, and unless he's able to quickly adapt to his surroundings, he has to stay perfectly still, especially if others are hiding behind him. He has learned to both slow his breathing and hold his breath for quite a bit of time to do so. However, for some reason he cannot camouflage his eyes, thus has to have his eyes closed or use the goggles form his hero costume to camouflage them as well. Due to this, he has also learned to heighten his senses to maneuver around areas with his eyes closed.

Relationships

Family

Hinata Kagami: Yui's adoptive mother, and the only mother figure he's known for his entire life. She's a very kindhearted person who never let Yui feel uncared for, unloved, or even that he was adopted at all, despite the obvious differences in him and his parents. She was the one who isntilled his love for reading, the two sharing books and a love for them all throughout his life. She was probably the more excited one of his parents when he told them he decided to and got accept to attend UA. She and his father are his main inspirations to become a hero.

Lee Kagami: Yui's adoptive father, and the only father figure he's known for his entire life. Like his mother, he is a kind man who has never let Yui ever feel out of place in their family or home and cares about him very much. Yui learned his blunt nature from him, as he always taught Yui to be honest, though Yui may have learned to take it a wee bit too far sometimes. He's able to go to his father for his own advice and feels he can open up to his father about anything, even telling him his doubts about attending UA and becoming a hero. While his father admitted he was nervous, scared even, for Yui to go and to take this path, he told him that he believed he would make a wonderful hero and help so many people and encouraged him to take the chance, especially with Ere and Yui at his side. He and his motehr are his main sinpirations to become a hero.

Civilians

Bean Watanabe: Under Construction

UA High School

Mei Akizuki (1-A): His second childhood best friend and the other person he feels closest to and can be himself around. He and Mei often times bicker like siblings, getting on each others' nerves on occasion, but he deeply cares for and about her. He wants to see her succeed and do her best and he's willing to get on her or nag her about it to see it done. After all, he joined this school with them and he wants to graduate alongside them.

Ere Mitsugu (1-A): His first childhood best friend. She is one of the two closest people to him who he feels he can be himself around. While she knows of his true blunt nature, she never seems bothered by it and somehow gets him more flustered than strangers sometimes.

Bani Watanabe (1-A): A fellow classmate and the younger sibling of his boyfriend, Bean. He didn't meet Bani until they began to attend UA and thinks she's nice enough and a good person but has still yet to get close enough to her for her to see past his usual shyness, but he's trying. Especially with her being related to Bean. It was through her that he met him in the first place, her having taken them to her brother's cafe.

Ayato Mifune (1-A): A fellow classmate of his and one of the few people other than Mei or Ere to get past his walls. While he isn't as close to Ayato as Mei is, he finds him genuinely fun to be around and a good friend to boot. While he's the class clown, Yui deems it almost necessary to have someone like him around, and is quite impressed when it shows that Ayato is smarter than he acts, and does enjoy the time they all hang out together (especially knowing Ayato is as protective and caring of Mei as he is).

Eijiro Kirishima (1-A): Yui was the first one to pick up on Kirishima's crush on his best friend and offer him help trying to woo her. While nervous at first, as he is with everyone, Kirishima was easily able to find his way past it and become good friends with Yui, with Yui getting to see how good a person he truly was. Because of this, Yui knew he could make his friend happy and did his best to give him advice and help. He has a great deal of admiration and respect for Kirishima, seeing his boisterous personality as something he wishes he could be and has the utmost faith he'll become an amazing hero.

Katsuki Bakugo (1-A): While he is now on a more neutral ground on his feelings about Bakugo, he truly didn't like him at first and loathed Ere's crush on him (of course never saying anything about it). While now he can see that Bakugo is growing and making changes in his personality, he still dislikes his over the top and aggressive nature and would rather avoid him at all cost if possible.

Pro-Heroes

Shinya Kamihara (Edgeshot): Being a fan of his for quite some time, Yui was more than ecstatic when he was able to work under Edgeshot for the Work Studies program. He took to heart everything the Pro Hero taught him, finding himself picking up similar habits situational analyzing and strategy his teacher had, and found a grow of confidence during his time with him. Yui hopes to continue to work under Edgeshot in more Work Studies and maybe even join him as a Side Kick one day.

Nara and Minoru Mitusugu (Blood Hound and Grey Hound): As Ere's parents, he has known them ever since he has known her. While as a kid they intimidated him, the more time he spent with their daughter and them, the more he found they were great people who were just....blessed, with scarier looks. Like most heroes, he has a good deal of respect for them and will often consider them like parents, alongside his own and Mei's. They make him feel like one of the family and even trained him and Mei when they finally told the two they were planning on joining Ere in the exams for UA.

Koji Ushijima (Momentus): Knows of him as the 3rd year homeroom teacher, having met him on the few occassions he's led a training session for the younger classes, and seeing his hero works on TV. He's rarely gotten to interact with him very much one on one but seems like a nice enough guy and a good hero.
