Makayla is a very stubborn person. Once she sets her mind to something there's nothing that can move her from her task. She has a heart full of hate and grief and uses fighting as a way to let it all out. She doesn't care about the law or morals, and will hunt anyone who can give her a step closer to her target. Despite all this, she can be very sweet and kind. She's very soft around children or cats, and wouldn't dream of hurting people she cares about [good thing there's not many]. She's very sarcastic and has a dark sense of humor. Often making light of deadly situations.

Once she meets R and his team she began to grow as a person and her obsession lessened. She thought more about how it would hurt her friends than she ever had before, and stopped killing. She turned over a new leaf, but deep inside the only thing that drove her to do anything was still revenge. 

Makayla grew up with her father, after her mother and him split when she was three. Her father and her had a very close connection. He always made time for her and gave her everything he could provide. She was happy living with him, and was a very kind child. Her father taught her self defense at a young age. He was personal protection for a large company that kept the city running, and wanted Kay to learn to defend herself. She learned how to use a gun and basic fighting moves. She was very athletic as a kid, joining gymnastics and track as a kid. When she was 14 her father was shot dead in the living room, a single bullet to the back of his neck from what seemed a distance away. Makayla was horrified, and it was this time that her world completely dissolved. She was sent to live with her mother, but hated it there. She was able to stay with a close friend of her father, living above his auto garage and helping out as a way to pay it forward. After half a year, the case of her father's murder was closed with no one being taken into custody. She felt betrayed and heartbroken, knowing that the man that destroyed her life was still out there. She decided to find him herself, and began digging into her fathers life to find out who would want to kill him. While going through old books of his, she found a note addressed to her. The note was a warning, telling Kay that if he ended up dead there was a good chance it was the company. He found something they were working on that they didn't want anyone to know about, and when her father threatened to take if public they had him assassinated. This filled Makayla with a new purpose. She became fixated and obsessed with taking down the company, no matter the way. She pushed herself harder and harder, learning more lethal ways of fighting. When she was half way through her 15 year she became the vigilante now known as Black Shadow. She hunted anyone remotely connected to her father and the company. Though she thought of herself as the good guy, she quickly drew the attention of the police and a hero group that protected the city. Soon she found herself having to evade both whenever on the streets, and fighting off vigilante's whenever cornered. When she was half way through her 16 year she found the break she needed. Her father's old work partner, who went into hiding awhile ago. She tracked him down and was faced with the whole vigilante team, determined to bring her in this time. She was cornered, but her mind was focused on getting the information from her father's old work partner. Before he could talk, she got shot from a couple buildings away and ended up falling off the building.

After getting shot Makayla woke up in a glass cell with a killer headache. R, the vigilante's team leader, wanted to turn her over to the police but also needed to protect her, no matter how horrible her methods were. She took the whole situation rather lightly, feeling like there wasn't any escape anytime soon. She reluctantly gave up the information she gathered to R who joined in Kay's search for the murder, but for a different reason. After a week she began getting antiquated with the other team mates. Neon, who made the weapons and suits and keeps eyes on the team via electronic devices. Bioshock, a gifted kid who could send shock waves through the earth. Vixen, who's only words to Makayla were always mean. She began to learn their real names and share somethings about herself. After a month she was allowed to join in the search, and for the first time Kay thought of something other than finding her fathers killer and making him pay. When R gave up the search, Kay stayed with the team and continued to work with them for another year and a half. Suddenly she found another lead, one that finally gave her what she wanted and it cause Kay's obsession to resurface. This time she took the team with her, and they hunted the man down. She had him pinned, and despite the pleas from her friends, ended up killing him. She disappeared after that, for years, and only recently returned to the city.
