Lychee

Lychee is a plant girl that grew from the earth because of the wish of a human. Her adoptive mother, June, is a 59 year old single mother that previously lived alone.

June had reached the later stages of her middle aged life without ever meeting someone or marrying. Overcome by loneliness and the knowledge that she would never be married in the future, June wished to the moon on a warm summer night for a child, however that child may come to her. After her wish she stood in the garden for a moment, feeling the warm breeze, and retired again to her small cottage. Over the month however, a strange sprout began growing in her garden. The woman loved her garden, and realizing it wasn't a weed, she decided to let it grow and see what it would become. She watered it every day along with her other plants, and gave it all the same nutrients and nurture. Nearing the end of the month, the sprout had grown quite big! During her daily afternoon where she watered the garden as usual, she heard a strange cry. It sounded almost like a baby! She approached the sprout with hesitation and dropped to her knees in the dirt. The sound was coming from the sprout, she was sure of it! Using her gently cupped hands, she shovelled dirt away, handful by handful. When the last of the dirt was moved aside, June began to cry. In the hole where the plant had sprouted was a tiny, healthy baby girl! June lifted up the screaming child brought her inside, rocking her and cooing at her until she calmed. From that day forwards, June would raise this child as her own.

This is the story of how Lychee was born, or at least as her mother tells it.
