- his name
- his parents named him john because they didn't wanna force a fantastical name on him.
- he reaaally wants a fantastical name.
- cannot do magic *at all* .
john magic (aka allister / alli) got into the valiente institute on his family's dime. his parents are locally famous magic users, and he really loves magic *as a concept* but he just cannot do it. he can barely brew potions. despite this, he acts like he's the best guy in school, which has made him incredibly unpopular.
due to alli's lack of magical prowess, he's been banned from the potion brewing labs because of how many supplies he wasted. that didn't stop him from sneaking down there one afternoon though, where he happened upon fellow classmate perseus performing some strange ritual that ended up killing a girl from their class. he ran almost immediately, but he's positive of what he saw.
after a long night, allister went to fellow perseus disliker kyan driscoll, despite also disliking him. seeming genuinely upset, kyan listened to his account, and now the pair, along with alli's only friend yuka, are doing their best to find some evidence of the crime, so they can report perseus and keep him from doing more harm.
investigating
a guy that alli initially envied due to his magical skill, now he's terrified of him after seeing him commit murder. he never even thought magic could do something like that...
tentative ally
kyan and alli don't really get along, kyan calls him John which he hates, but there's not exactly a plethora of people who don't adore perseus so he's working with what he's got on this.
friend
the only person who shows alli some sympathy, alli isn't rude to her but he isn't exactly friendly (he's just himself) either. she actually tries to help him with magic but he really just can't.
annoyance
not even alli is worse than jay, he's honestly one of the least likable guys in school. he wishes jay would stop bullying him and kyan and is just waiting for the day he gets what he's owed.
