INFORMATION

"If you just let me, I could fly us both up on top of the clock tower. The city is truly beautiful at night, when you can look at it from above."
BD3lRO3.png

An offspring of a demon mother and human father, Sage has spent most of their life in the human realm, feeling like they don’t really belong anywhere. Perhaps as a result of this, Sage tends to go with the flow when it comes to their own life, and they’re characterized by a lack of much planning for the future - Sage enjoys taking each new day as it comes. Polite and generally responsible, Sage is considered mature and wise beyond their years, and oftentimes has a relatively favorable position within the circles they tend to inhabit. However, make no mistake: Sage, much like the species of their demonic side, are likewise energetic, playful and even a little mischievous if a chance for mischief appears. Although not necessarily the fastest to warm up to others, Sage really tends to show their more thrill-seeking and easygoing side with friends.

Coming from their mother's side, Sage is very proud and ambitious, and has a relatively strong honor code they try to follow to their best abilities. Thankfully much of the competitiveness and war-mindedness of their demon race isn’t present in Sage, but they still occasionally show signs of very confrontational attitude when pressed, cornered or treated unfairly. Although they tend to be somewhat indifferent towards a lot of things, Sage has a very strong sense of how they want and don't want to be treated, and refuses to settle for any less than they think they deserve. Arrogant or uppity, however, Sage isn’t, and generally tends to be very humble and relaxed, making them easy to get along with.

A year older than Cyrus, the two become a couple during Sage’s last year and Cyrus’ second year of gymnasium. They’re associated with Claude and Jonathan as well, and together with Cyrus are the ancestors of Hannes.

Appearance

Sage is a humanoid closely resembling a human, with an androgynous body that oftentimes confuses people. However, as Sage is visibly lacking breasts, most people gender them as male, which is also how Sage prefers to present to other people socially. Sage has an athletic body on the taller side, with long limbs and a pair of turquoise wings with white dots. Their skin is very light and uncannily smooth with no visible moles or much texture. Their hair is poofy and very light cream in color, almost as light as their skin, and cut in a feathered, unisex manner. Their eyes are bright blue and visibly stand out from their light face, and the corners of their eyes are permanently red - something people tend to mistake for makeup until they realize it won’t come off. Sage’s eyelashes are relatively long with visibly long strands of lower lashes, and their eyebrows are very thin but dark. Their nose is small and lips visibly pink and thin.

Sage is usually seen wearing long black socks, a white lace shirt, high waisted blue shorts and round, white necklaces. Their wings are usually hidden, and although they’re usually shown relatively small, they can expand when needed for flying.

Personality

Sage is considered mysterious and cool by most of their peers, mostly thanks to their otherworldly looks and the fact not many know details about Sage and their life beyond the basics. Friendly and open but not necessarily the most social of people, Sage is often seen alone, very focused on their own things, whatever they might be. Despite their tendency of being without a company, they’re hardly considered a loner, and their overall friendliness and generally good mood guarantee Sage always has some company if they so desire. Sage isn’t much of stickler to the rules either, and although they’re seen as mature, Sage is by no means above juvenile mischief and the occasional rule breaking. Especially when with people Sage is fond of, they can really show their less mature and fun loving side not afraid of taking risks.

A surprisingly smooth talker, Sage is good at telling people the things they want to hear, and they enjoy making others happy and entertained. Although this makes Sage an excellent flirt, they don’t actually get very involved with other people very easily, and smooth talking is more of a learned mannerism rather than something they do with the intention of pursuing a relationship. Usually this doesn’t bother people as Sage is very respectful and genuine with the things they do end up saying, but it can be disappointing for some to find out Sage wasn’t being serious about the romantic aspect of it. Furthermore, as Sage has a lot of secrets due to being half demon, they are very careful with how close they let others to get to them, and what they are willing to tell them. For Sage, revealing their true nature or talking about their gender are the two most difficult things, and they only tell them to the people Sage has absolute trust and faith in.

AlCondH.pngRegardless of their secretive nature, it’s still easy to get along with them: more relaxed and pacifistic than their demonic relatives, Sage is emotionally somewhat balanced and also surprisingly available for others, as long as it’s about them and not Sage personally. They’re a good and supportive listener, but don’t usually feel very comfortable talking about themselves outside of trivial and simple details. Although their cognitive capabilities are closer to the skillset and development of humans than powers, Sage is often viewed as wise and someone people who aren’t intimidated by their general aura turn to for help. Furthermore, Sage enjoys being of help to others when they just can. They’re hard to anger or irritate and they generally like to laugh at things rather than get upset (even when they have all the reason to get upset), but Sage has a set of morals and ideals about what justice and fairness are to them, and will not hesitate to speak up if these values are being threatened by the actions of others. Not necessarily the greatest talker when pushed past their limits, however, Sage will very likely get physical with people and cause damage as they forget how fragile humans can be. They’re also very proud and aware of their own worth, sometimes to the point people might find them arrogant, even if they’re ultimately wrong - Sage simply just asks to be treated decently.

However, because Sage got used to a somewhat unpredictable life as a human-demon offspring, they ended up become very passive and uninterested about the future, thinking it’s no use planning things too much because just about anything can ruin these plans. Especially worried about the state of their wings and how long they’re able to hide them somewhat successfully, Sage finds it hard if not impossible to make plans beyond two to three days. Resulting from this, they’re often late, pushing the assignment deadlines and generally lost on punctuality to the point Sage often makes it to the meetings either just in time or is slightly late. They’re also not very good or confident about decisions (especially big ones), and might decline or impulsively jump into things entirely depending on their mood at the moment.

History

Sage was born to a demon mother and a human father, who decided to raise their child predominantly in the human realm of Hymnia. Physically being able to pass for a human for most his childhood, Sage started growing his wings only at the age of 5, back when his wings used to be milky white in color. Although his wings had to be hidden from humans, Sage’s parents made sure the child would get to move their wings around as much as possible, most often in the woods or when visit the demon realm.

Never really one to consider himself a girl, Sage came out as nonbinary to their parents at age 12, and was instantly accepted by his parents - after all, nonbinary identities were nothing out of ordinary among demons like his mother, and his father had alway been the sort of person accepting new things at ease. Sage’s friends also fast accepted their identity, much of it thanks to Sage’s naturally androgynous personality and appearance. Added by the fact Sage’s family soon moved to the other side of the country, it was very easy for them to start life anew in the new city, where Sage decided to present as a man instead, as humans as a whole were not always the most accepting of nonbinary identities. However, they would quickly come out as nonbinary to their closest friends, although hardly ever discussed the fact they were assigned female at birth, instead letting people assume they were assigned male instead based on their physique.

Despite being somewhat open about their gender, Sage only showed their wings to a few people they had already known for years, and being forced to hide their wings often brought them unnecessary trouble and emotional turmoil: unable to attend camps or the like without the fear of getting caught, Sage had no other choice but to stay out of the many fun events their peers participated in. This taught Sage how to effectively spend time alone, but also created the somewhat distant and passive person they would then become.

Sage and Cyrus befriend each other during Sage’s second year, in the process of trying to hit on the same person. As the two kept competing for the girl’s attention, however, they ended up getting closer, and upon finally finding out she is already taken, Cyrus and Sage realized their feelings had shifted towards one another a long time ago. Nowadays the two are dating and together very often, although not necessarily in romantic terms: very often they hang around like any friends would, and often also get in trouble with their shenanigans. Nevertheless, they’re very much in love and do have their tender moment, but both of them prefer to do fun things together somewhere outside rather than stay and cuddle at home.

Skills & Abilites

  • Capable of flying when wings are fully extended. However, they’re not the best flier due to their lack of practice, since it’s difficult to do it in human settlements.

  • Because they live among humans,Sage must keep their wings hidden. For this, they have two options they’re forced to alternate between because of their limitations.

Tattoo: With magic, Sage is able to turn their wings into two wing shaped tattoos on their back. However, as this level of disguise magic is very advanced, Sage can keep the wings hidden only for five days a week and for 10 hours at the time until they run out of energy enirely for two days. Sage usually times this so that they’ll use the tattoo magic during weekdays and binding magic on weekends.

Binding: As Sage can turn their wings very small, they’ll shrink them to their smallest and simply bind them against their back with a tight piece of undershirt. However, as this will leave small bumps on their back, Sage must wear a very loose shirt.

  • Despite being half demon, Sage seems to age and develop like humans do, and it’s safe to assume their life span is that of a human’s as well. They’re also considerably weaker in physical strength than powers tend to be, but still strong when compared to a lot of humans.

  • Very light water magic skills, Sage mostly uses them to entertain themself rather than using them for anything practical. They can force small bodies of water into a snake-like shape and move it around, as long as their weight is something they could carry on their arms. Sage is also capable of purifying water by separating it from whatever has been mixed with it, as long as they know what exactly is in the water.

  • By the virtue of having power blood in them, Sage finds learning and memorizing things a tad easier than your average human. However, despite arguably being intelligent, Sage is simultaneously a rather simple person to the point people might underestimate their academical knowledge.

  • Moderately knowledgeable about first aid, due to hanging out with Cyrus a lot and taking interest in his expertise.
Trivia

  • *Sage generally presents as a man in the human society for mostly practical purposes, and they’re totally fine being referred to with masculine terms (brother, dude, guy etc). They also tend to use they/he both a lot, strangers usually using he and people more familiar with them using they pronouns. Sage doesn’t mind people sticking to one pronoun, but if they do, Sage prefers “them”.

  • Their wings used to be milky white when Sage was a child, but during puberty and a molting season they made a full change from white to turquoise. This is perfectly normal for powers, and considered an important rite to adulthood. However, Sage’s wings changed color earlier than those of most powers, who tend to experience the change only in their early 20s.

  • Doesn’t like hiding their wings and will use all the time available to keep them visible. This, combined with the fact Sage’s magical core has a limited amount of power, means Sage lives alone in their dorm room and generally can’t do sleepovers or the like, unless they disturb their routine (but as a result they’ll have to bind the wings for longer when they run out of energy).

  • Energetic and outdoorsy, Sage likes to walk around and explore new places, and can sometimes be spotted in the strangest of places. They like to wander in the woods in particular, and might even get so gutsy they let their wings open while there to give them some fresh air.

  • Their more male-typical chest is a result of their power heritage: their chests become swollen only when they’re pregnant, similar to most non-human mammals, and this is assumed to help them to achieve a build more aerodynamic for flying.

  • During the events of Sinfonia (vn), Sage is 15 years old. They never attend the Lottenberg boarding school, but do have some human relatives in Maisier where the school resides. Sage and Cyrus briefly cross paths there once, but properly meet each other only later in high school. To avoid confusion, I'll keep the Sinfonia characters unliked to this profile until I put up their high school version profiles.
