Basics
A former soldier of many a war, Kyler is a broken shell of a man. He hides it well- living in a small home, running a blacksmithing business out of the bazaar in Thedale with his ever loyal Vayron Papa Midnight at his side. In the public eye, he is casual and easy-going, always willing to chat with customers that come by, bringing cobbler to his neighbors, inviting strangers over for dinner. He has a good and honest soul, but it’s been broken by a life of war, of “just following orders” which he used as an excuse to do terrible things to good people. It haunts him now that he is older and can look back upon a wasted youth, years of fighting someone else’s war with someone else’s money. It has left him a little stoic, a little rigid, he has a strong sense of justice and a somewhat narrow-minded black and white sense of morality. He does not tolerate criminals well and believes in punishing those who do wrong, except maybe children, he has a soft spot for both kids and Vayron pups.
But he is very much a rule follower and believes that those who break the rules should be punished, or rather he used to believe that. In his days as a soldier, he was obedient to a fault and he realizes that now, that not every rule, not every command, should be followed, but even though he is capable of breaking rank and working outside of the law, he agrees with whatever the higher powers have decided and believes law should generally be followed. Going against the rules makes him anxious, he is just not rebel material.

Relationships
Bryn [ It's Complicated ]
Though they started out as rival blacksmiths- one in the north of Roenden, the other in the south, they eventually managed to come together for the sake of business, they quickly found themselves as more than just coworkers. If you asked Kyler though, the relationship is still just a business transaction. Because he has since moved to Thedale, he has a hard time spending time with Bryn and therefore feels like they have grown distant, that maybe they never loved each other, that he was just a tool for the dragon to use and discard once he was bored of it. This is likely an overreaction on his part, but PTSD and depression will do that to a person.
