Story

Early Life

Crimson was born in a village in the bamboo forest of Zhu Lai in the Sur Kingdoms. His mother was a seamstress and his father was a bamboo harvester. Together they lived a mostly quiet life, although they always feared an invasion from the Northern Empire, as the southeastern side of the continent where the forest was located was not as protected by the Kingdoms' armies as the rest of the region. Crimson was raised in a loving home, his father showing him how to harvest bamboo and how to brew tea. Crimson quickly took an interest in learning how to cook, and greatly enjoyed preparing meals for his family.

For many years, Crimson and his mother would sit together while she worked on sewing clothes for their village and visitors. She told him of her favorite project, a tapestry for the royal family of Felonis, the capital city of the Savanna States. The tapestry was of a prophecy revealed to her after many years of meditating to find her Inner Place at the nearby Tierra Sanctuary. Crimson did not understand the prophecy, but he always loved hearing his mother tell the story of the golden northern warrior who was destined to defeat a silver warrior of the south, with the world being remade soon after. He hoped to one day change the world for good like in his mother's story.

Lone Survivor

When he was 10, the Northern Empire attacked his village in a night raid, intending to push through on its way towards the stronger kingdoms to the west. During the attack, the Imperial Army set fire to the village, killing everyone they saw and burning down every building. Realizing what was about to happen to them, Crimson's parents hid him in their stone cellar, which protected him as his home burned down around him. After the Imperial army moved on, Crimson was met with devastation as he soon learned he was the only survivor of his village, his parents having died in the fire. Not long after, monks from the Tierra Sanctuary came to survey what was left of the village, discovering the young red panda and taking him in.

Life in the Sanctuary

For the next five years, the monks treated Crimson like their son, training him in the ways of the Samurai. When he was skilled enough, he crafted his dual cyber katanas out of carbon and steel. And while he was grateful for his new home, he did not desire to be honor bound to the Sanctuary as was custom of the Samurai Code, preferring the path of Ronin, which would allow him to utilize everything he had learned without allegiance to a specific creed. And after expressing himself to the monks, they understood, wishing he would stay with them until he was 18, when he would be strong enough to travel into the world.

But when he was 15, a panda farmer introduced Crimson to Silvia Steele, an opossum knight who had come to the Sanctuary seeking answers about the prophecy Crimson's mother had told him about years before. She then showed him a patch from the tapestry his mother had sewn for the kingdom of Felonis, which had recently been destroyed in a battle. Crimson explained he did not want to be reminded of his village, but Silvia eventually convinced him to explain the prophecy after revealing she wanted revenge on the Northern Empire for how it treated her.

Later that night, Crimson took her to the Seeing Pond, a mystical spring hidden in the roots of the Arbor of the Ancestors, the ancient tree that dominated the Sanctuary, which would show them the truth. He placed the patch in the water, allowing them visions of his mother who had sewn the tapestry many years before. One warrior from the north, and one warrior from the south, were destined to do battle, and upon the southern warrior's defeat, the world would be remade. Silvia asked how Crimson's mother came to receive the vision, to which he explained it took many years of searching for her Inner Place before she was granted the gift of foresight. Silvia then explained she needed to change the prophecy, but she could only do it by finding out the identity of the northern warrior. Crimson told her the only way she could know was if she found her own Inner Place, which would require years of training her soul in the Sanctuary, before the Seeing Pond would give her what she desired.

A New Purpose

The monks allowed Silvia to stay in the Sanctuary, Crimson being available to her as a training partner. For two years, he helped her as she tried to unlock her Inner Place, and in return she would bring him along on her missions to the Kingdom of Alegio in the Savanna States. During these missions, Crimson learned much about the wider world outside the Sanctuary, taking note of how chaotic it was compared to the peace he had known in the Zhu Lai Forest. One day in the Sanctuary, he had been out collecting plant samples for his teas when he overheard a storm erupting from the Arbor of the Ancestors. He soon discovered Silvia had attacked the monks in her frustration to unlock her Inner Place with her Lightning powers, though they had quickly subdued her with their Nature spells. Afterwards, Silvia announced she was leaving the Sanctuary to return to Alegio, and offered Crimson the opportunity to join her. Now that he was 17, he began to feel mature enough to explore the world on his own, and respectfully bid the monks farewell, though they assured him the Sanctuary would always be a home to him.

Upon Crimson and Silvia's return to the Savanna States, the king of Alegio, a jaguar named Rey Dorado, informed them of an impending attack by the Northern Empire on the Spectrum Academy in Grand Concentra City, with the Empire's intention of blaming the attack on the Sur Kingdoms. He told them of a cheetah named Hunter Pantone, who had vital knowledge on the attack against the Empire, and decided to send Crimson alone to capture him, as the red panda had no official association with the Sur Kingdoms' armies. During his mission briefing, Crimson learned Hunter was on his way to the Fjord Reaches in the northern region of the Empire, and that he was to intercept Hunter once he arrived.

Crimson traveled to the border between the Sur Kingdoms and Northern Empire, where he took a skyship up to the Fjord Reaches. Shortly after he arrived, he discovered Hunter's houseboat along the coast. Soon enough, he also located the cheetah, who was being guarded by a kangaroo named Vert Greene, clouded leopard named Rosa Amaranth, and arctic fox named Cerulean Azura. Crimson engaged Cerulean combat, and in his distraction allowed Hunter to escape with Vert and Rosa. The two were evenly matched as Crimson's swords clashed with the fox's nunchuks, though Cerulean eventually bested him, and the red panda was thrown to the ground. But before the fight could continue, the ice beneath their feet opened up, dropping Cerulean into the chasm, where Crimson lost sight of him. Frustrated at his own defeat and the failure of his mission, Crimson reported back to Alegio. During his return to the kingdom, he soon got news the bombing on the Spectrum Academy had successfully played out, and word was already spreading against the Sur Kingdoms.

The Apprentice

Once he had returned to Alegio, Silvia confronted him about what he'd learned on Hunter. And though he'd only seen the cheetah a short time, Crimson told her he was a capable warrior he was not yet strong enough to defeat. And for the next year, the two remained in Alegio, Crimson exploring new cooking techniques from the local ingredients while Silvia's Lightning powers grew. Eventually, King Dorado reported Hunter had been hiding in Grand Concentra City, with the aim of starting a resistance against the Authorities of the city. The king still desired to capture Hunter in case he had any more secrets against the Northern Empire that would be beneficial to them. Silvia quickly volunteered to lead in Alegio's mission to quell Hunter's resistance before he gained a following and became too strong. King Dorado approved, and Silvia then took Crimson as her second in command, officially making him her apprentice.
